So true. I love van life in a sprnter and at 75, I hope to be able to do this at least another 5 years. If I don't go alone, I don't go and I didn't want to give it up because I am now by myself. The further I travel the stronger the feeling that I don't want to go back. Home is on the road. My best friends are my dog and high end roadside assistance. ☺

Yes, I was so surprised once I began traveling in my van to meet so many older women who were living in rigs because they couldn't afford rent. But as you say there are also many women who seek something different and have found van life fills that need. So interesting to hear the similarities between the situation in the US and there in Australiam Thanks for sharing that informationm

One thing she said was when we were young (i'm 60 same age group) it was unheard of for women to travel alone and she's right it wasn't even something I even thought about until I went to the grand canyon on a business trip and discovered there is so much to see in this county, I then discovered Bob Wells/Carolyn Rv and the nomadic life style and realized this is something I can do. It's kinda like a freedom movement for older women, I'm glad for the young women who discovered it early, I retire in 1 1/2 years and can't wait to travel, right now I spend my vacations camping.

This is very inspirational. Acknowledging the fear or lack of confidence or both and then speaking about the perseverance and how to overcome so much of it. Yes, I was brought up in a way that didn't show many women who ventured out on their own, who did it all, who found resources, who found a support system in other women and that it was OKAY! Now we are beginning to see you out there... doing it! I know it isn't always easy, that it would be nice to have someone else to bounce things off of. We have each other now and we need to be there for each other, without judgment. We can do it!!

*Newly Updated Safety Suggestions: for RV lifers, Campers, Hikers, Explorers, Nomadic Life, and Travelers* I just happened to see your channel, and others similar channels recently, and I think that you, and others sharing their actual reality, and some have expressed some of the up, and down sides to van, RV, or vehicle living. Although, I just noticed your KZbin channel, and other similar channels, displaying van living. I just wanted to remind everyone to Aware Be of your surroundings and Alert, I just posted this anyway to help anyone who may benefit from these suggestions I believe that it is very helpful, and beneficial to others who may be thinking about this type of living without actually thinking through, about the some of the realistic problems that could occur with vehicle or van living etc... People need to know what the up sides there are, as well as some of the down sides of vehicle living. I believe this channel, and other channels have been informative to others, including myself. Although, I am NOT living in a vehicle or anything like this. I feel that you , and others KZbinrs sharing this with your viewers will be very helpful. I wish you ALL the Best with your traveling endeavors. I shared this with several other travelers, as I watched their KZbin channel for the first time, as yours, and I shared with them this information that may be helpful to you as well to others. Therefore, I would also like to suggest a few Safety tips, and items that may help you, or others in your viewing audience. Although, you may have knowledge of this already, I am not sure, so I hope this will be helpful to you, others or someone. *Keep a Extra working cellphone with you or in your vehicle. You can purchase inexpensive phone with a very low monthly price between 25, 35, 45, dollars a month with unlimited data and text, and some have Nationwide coverage Do your research for the best fit for you Consider Carrying Several Extra portable cellphone phone chargers, and cables. Consider theses items: *Mini portable power charging station. I have also seen outdoor portable solar powered power stations, that can be recharged from sunlight this may be very useful to have, to power your devices. *Invest in a Cellular signal booster for outdoor use, and camping situations to boost or amplify your cell signal and reception. Consider also the purchase of a WiFi signal booster to also boost your WiFi signal. Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating, or camping situations. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Some can be synchronized with your smart watch or phone. There are some satellite SOS texting messaging, locator devices that will send messages with your phone even if there isn’t any cellular signal, or WiFi. With this device your can still text, and communicate with others in a emergency satellite transmission. Check online, for various emergency SOS products, some are small to fit in the palm of your hand. You can check online, and on Amazon, research what SOS devices will be a good fit for you. *Mini portable vehicle battery jumper charger *vehicle battery jumper cables *Vehicle Jumper cables *PLEASE BE AWARE* that in the *WINTER* *vehicle *Batteries fail* many times in very cold weather conditions. Vehicle batteries drain more often in the winter months. Please Keep a vehicle battery portable jumper pack, this is a device that can jumper or boost your vehicles battery yourself without another vehicle. If you have a older battery in your vehicle, Please have it tested or replace it, and consider the purchase a new vehicle battery with higher Cold Cranking Amps rating. Be Aware that Sometimes even a battery that is a few years old can fail in the Winter months, and extremely cold temperatures. Some alternatives to Winter Camping, Travelers, Explorers, etc, if you can find a Warmer Climate Location to stay during Extreme Winter months, or stay with family for a few weeks. Another alternative is renting somewhere although this can probably get expensive. What ever you decide Be Careful, Alert, Aware, Safe, and Informed... *Keep a Fire extinguisher handy *Smoke detectors, and Carbon monoxide detectors can be helpful Keep a First Aid kit with Bandages, antiseptic, and other first aid necessities etc. and good vitamin supplementation, and fluids that promote hydration. Consider installing; *Mounted Dashboard camera front and rear possibly. *Exterior vehicle mounted camera for the front, rear, and both sides of your vehicle. Some can be activated by motion, Including spotlights. *Interior vehicle cameras *Flashlights or pluggin spotlights *Portable spotlights, and lanterns Keep a few whistles around with you, and in your vehicle possibly in your vehicle’s center console *Keep a Sound horn, for hiking this can service, as a deterrent, and a emergency signal alert for others. *A set of long range 2 way radios, walkie talkies, to communicate with others during trips, some have 100 mile radius keep for emergencies, you can keep with you when hiking. Use your own discretion regarding the use carrying of any weapons. Don’t forget to bring Bear Spray Pepper spray Where is allowed Purchase a couple canisters just in case and keep it with you If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc. However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings. Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks. Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. *VERY IMPORTANT* *WINTER AWARENESS* I would suggest *NOT* to travel to locations without internet, or cellular service in the Winter, the reason is that weather conditions can change very quickly, and you absolutely DO NOT want have a vehicle break down, or malfunction, or emergency, and not have the availability to communicate, and contact your family, and or, emergency road assistance, or emergency services. Please Keep in mind that even in area where there is cellular service and internet, in the Winter sometimes there are ice storms that may occur and this can cause Power or Electrical failures, until utilities crews repair lines. *Your Safety is Important* *PLEASE BE AWARE* that in some extreme cold temperatures that vehicle fuel lines could Freeze and causing a vehicle to not start. Just in case Keep your gas tank filled, which helps prevent vehicle fuel lines from freezing. Keep gas or fuel line additive, or gas line antifreeze, that is rated to use okay for your vehicle. Check with your a certified mechanic and your vehicle owners manual, and or dealer repair facility to inquire what is best to prevent freezing gas tank and lines in extreme cold. In the Winter even your bottled Water can freeze so Be Careful and Plan ahead. *Safety is Paramount* *Your Life is Important* *You want to Live to Travel another Day* *So Be Safe* *Stay Alert* *Keep your vehicle gas filled* Don’t ride on fumes, or on Empty. Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, antifreeze coolant, Please carry extra (oil)(washer fluid), (brake fluid), (antifreeze). You will need extra Winshield Washer fluid because of the ever changing Weather conditions, dustly roads, especially in slushy wet roads. *WINTER AWARENESS* In the winter consider purchasing and deicing Windshield Washer Fluid, for the much colder weather conditions. Furthermore, you will need extra Windshield Washer Fluid, Because you will Be driving more often in dusty, dirty, windy, and varying weather conditions. Your windshield will gather dust and debris from long term driving. Also, Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set at a home base, friends or family’s house to rotate later on, also make sure that you have a spare tire in your vehicle. Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very. Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Electric, Portable tire pump. Keep towing insurance to Be Safe if you ever need it. It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling. Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors. Keep Enjoying Yourself, Keep Enjoying the outdoors, and Nature Just..Please continue to Be Positive, Safe, and Alert.. Wishing Success, Well-being and Happiness You All. God Bless You, and everyone Traveling, or living in their vehicles, Vans, RVs, Hiking etc. Please Be Safe..... God Be With You..... I finally did it yay! Please tell me what you love about living in your van? My friends are all imploring me to get a normal place to live they don't think this is in my best interest. I'm really needing to go deep inside of myself and see what is true for me. Usually in life people Echo our own internal dialogue. The challenge of keeping my generator, Power Station whatever it's called with electricity as well as not having a full kitchen as I love to cook and make beautiful salads and now I'm mainly eating canned food and very simple I am a plant-based vegan so I can just grab a leg of chicken and go

@@insightandintuition276 well I tried to explain but it isn't simple. I like having my home with me. I hate public restrooms so I carry mine with me. If you love to cook make a priority out of your kitchen. I cook but didn't want to give up the space for a kitchen. I like having everything at my fingertips. Do you have a van you can stand up or just the regular van. Gee their is so much good about. I don't find too many down sides. You are going to be in the elements and you have to deal with extreme heat and depending on where you're at the cold. T u so much this was great to hear. My husband passed February will be 6yrs, I get a little teary recalling. For some reason I have allowed fear to stop me from getting out on the road. In this moment I am planning God willing to leave in the next wk or 2 just waiting for my eyeglasses to be ready. I sold my roadtrek 10yrs ago and now in a Sienna minivan. FYI I once broke down on i95 when they asked me for my location I didn’t recall my last exit nor did I know the one coming up. People were zooming by at high speeds so couldn’t ask for help. Keep an eye out for the exits so if you call roadside you can let them know precisely where to find you💖I guess I didn’t have a gps can’t recall 🤷♀️

Oh yeppers! I knew that when I retired I wanted to go camping. I don't have any kids but my husband did and I had visions of these great family camping trips. And, we did have some but most trips it was just the two of us and of course our pup and it was great! So, when he passed unexpectedly I sold the truck and the trailer...I needed the money...but it never occurred to me that I could learn to drive the truck and pull the trailer. But then I saw a video on your channel about a woman in the same place (I think her guy's name was Dan also_) she just set her mind to it and figured it out. I'm not suCre I will ever be full time, and I may have to go where there are yurts, but me and my four legged side kick will be out there as much as we can. I have not taken it anyplace other than errands. I have had Class C that was nice but it just never felt like it "fit" and when I did camp near home base I was just to lonely. Maybe just the area or the time I went there were not many that seemed to be interested in visiting or had family all around. So I ended up selling it. I still wanted a get-a-way vehicle just in case so the RT hit the spot. Now to get brave to go someplace in it......widow, 73, Bella the dog and just not brave enough to go. It really is up to each person how they want to do van life. The major difference from living in a home is the extra gas cost and maintenance as you put more.miles on your vehicle. You have to buy food and pay for phone and insurance no matter where you live. I know people who are fulltime for less than $1000 a month and others who spend over $2,000 a month. It just depends in what you want. If you mostly boondock and stay on BLM land ypu pay practically nothing for camping, so you are living rent free and your propane is certainly less than gas costs are going to be in homes this winter.

I have had major challenges sleeping at night most of my life depending upon where I lived, because I am very sensitive to noises. I have had to develop different strategies to help me sleep. In the beginning I just used a fan in my room as a mechanical way to block out outside noises. I was raised in the country, so some nature sounds are very peaceful & relaxing to me. For example, here are some of the sounds I have CDs & other recordings of, which have helped me get to sleep in the past: ocean waves, rain, a summer night (has crickets, rain, frogs, etc.) a mountain stream, Native American Wood Flute, etc. You may want to do a little research on KZbin, so check out all the different beautiful sleep sound videos available there. These have been so helpful to me! Now I have no more need to carry along a CD player and stack of CDs. I especially like to listen to the one channel that has a great video with gentle rain and a stream- this one works best for me. Hopefully you can find some sleep sound Videos on KZbin which will help you to block out all outdoor noises!

Another pretty young girl doing her own thing 👏👏👏🙏. Currently in Colac Colac for a shake down camp up , it’s been raining pretty heavy off an on which doesn’t worry us to much,just an excuse to snuggle up under the duvet 😂 . We went for a bit of a drive yesterday to Khancoban and there was still plenty of snow on the mountains,which was just beautiful to see ,I think with all the heavy rain it’ll all disappear very quickly from here in. Loving ya work, stay strong 👁👁🙃🙃🐕🦺🙏🦘🐨❤️🇦🇺. P.S. Roxy dog has been really good, hasn’t tried to rip anyone’s throat out all trip ( touch wood)🤞

Glenda, you went from Navion Class C at just under 26ft to Roadtrek Class B at 19ft. I understand you can now park anywhere, but since you RV for months, don’t you miss the extra Class C lounge space?
@gloriouslifeonwheels36212 жыл бұрын
Everything is a trade off. In a larger rig you have higher gas expenses and harder time parking and even getting into certain locations. In a smaller rig you give up some comfort and the ability to stretch out. It just depends on what your priorities are. Having said that I must admit that sometimes I long for more space, until I pull up to a gas pump🤣🤣🤣

When Glenda and her husband were traveling they sold their home and went on the road fulltime for a period of years. But when he got sick they bought another home and came off the road. She still has that home, but is on the road most of the time.

Funny you didn't do a van tour of her Roadtrek 190 Popular. It would show people what's possible and if this would be a good choice for them. I've had a 05 Roadtrek 170 Popular since 2014 and it's been great but I'm looking at a 2010 or newer 190 as it gets hard to climb over each other at night because you sleep sideways in the back of the 170 to use the bathroom. 2 single beds would solve that problem but I would never full time in it.

Glenda has a Roadtrek 190. I would suggest checking out van life meetups like the one where I met Glenda at Lolapalooza in Texas. Home On Wheels Alliance (HOWA) has a Facebook page and shares information about Women's Caravans..HOWA is having a Women's meetup in Quartzsite , Az in January. .I am also having a meetup in January in Quartzsite, Az. Also, you can go online to Vacay Vans and they have a list of van/rv meetups.

I want to live my life rather than waiting to die. I fear lack of money. Can I do this with $2,000 a month. I don't want to have to sit in a secluded area. Money is what stops me
@gloriouslifeonwheels36212 жыл бұрын
You absolutely can do it for $2000 or less per month. The key is containing your costs by staying in locations longer thereby saving on gas and vehicle maintenance. The kind of rig you have had a big impact depending on gas mileage.Stayong on BLM land and also having the America The Beautiful Lofetime pass for $80 for se iors saves you significantly on Corp Of Engineer and many other campgrounds. I paid $12 per night on a Lake in Waco Texas with free hot showers. I paid $6 per night at Lake Shasta. There are a number of options.

Super interview, interesting woman. Question, to go to a militarily campground, did you have to be in the military befor, or is it for evryone?
@reynetallents2 жыл бұрын
You have to be in the Military (Active or Reserves), retired from it, or be an active worker for the Department of Defense (DOD). All these will have a current Military ID. Veterans with less than 20 years (say they just did 4 years), can't use them, as they don't have a Military ID anymore.

Depending on the military campground , if you are a veteran (not active duty and less than 20 years, in other words, most of those who served) But have VA Health card with disability rating, then you may also get a spot.
