People can be lonely and fearful anywhere . I discovered a long , long time ago ( 86 yrs now) not to spend to much time in ones head. You can get beat up there. Turning your focus outside yourself is healthier and is good for your soul. The world is full of magical, beautiful things if you look for them. As a woman who has been alone a lot, the one question I get all the time is, don't you get lonely? I always respond, no, I don't mind my own company. Some people travel better through life walking alone. And fear? Well, you can die once or die every night. You go girl.

@@ButterflyTracks I agree with you. It can be scary being alone. Like Carol, I have been alone a lot and don’t mind my own company. It can be scary being alone. I once felt anger and hatred when someone would ask me don’t I get lonely being alone. Now I have been a witness to many of those who can not fly SOLO. I have found the BALANCE, PEACE, SERENITY, within myself. Unfortunately, I now find those that want to attach themselves to me to comfort the irritability they feel when the SILENCE is too loud for them. I try to gently tell them to practice SELF LOVE, and to embrace the SACRED SOLITUDE OF THEIR JOURNEY. You must create your own JOY!!

I'm 59 and was full time for 2 years in western Canada until last fall, when family issues left me no choice other than to rent apartment for a year to help my daughter. True, if you are otherwise healthy and can afford to deal with a mechanical breakdown or other financial emergencies. I, personally, wouldn't go now, simply due to physical disabilities. If my health improves and if I no longer need constant medical care, it would be a consideration. If my condition worsens and I'm on my way out anyway I might hit the road because... nothing left to lose at that point. Just know that one mechanical breakdown at an inopportune place and time can be fatal and in an undignified way. If you're prepared to accept that then fire away. No time like the present.

You are an inspiration! I'm not lonely either. I talk to myself, I talk to the little dog, I talk to the air, I talk to my mom who passed a few years ago. It doesn't matter if they are in hearing reach or not. I'm good at keeping my self company. Didn't we always try to have our kids occupy themselves so we could get things done? We needed to teach them to take care of themselves once in a while, and how to be resourceful. It's no difference. I love my own company, and my Lord is always with me. I'm not alone.

I’ll be 60 in July and trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up😉 My mom passed away last year and after caring for her five years w dementia and being bedridden I’ve lost who I am. I have two grown sons but they have their own lives now so it’s just me. I’m cleaning out the apartment now it’s a job between hers and my stuff going to storage for now at least. I’ve been looking at vans and small campers wondering if this is something I want or not. Your videos will give me something to think about thank you ☺️

Hi Mad TWC. 👋 I know that empty house feeling, thinking there has to be more. There are several ways you may find to fill that emptiness. Traveling is exciting and every day is new and different.
@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr28232 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I'd keep most of my stuff. Even if there's nice, well-made furniture, jewelry and antique audio gear (well, THAT stuff should be able to find a solid buyer, but it's not right away.)--you'll get a rude awakening trying to look it all up online to see what it's worth. I'd suggest pawn shops and maybe an estate sale, or Guitar Center for music stuff, as a bird in the hand is better than buying storage for months when it's almost May and prices are the highest. I'd give my friends X amount if time to come get whatever they want, and start heading over to the thrift store, by packing up the trunk of obvious stuff I don't need (doesn't fit, out of style and so on...) You might have a neighborhood app for that, too. Look out, your mother's glassware and China might languish online. Much of that is full of lead and heavy metals, too. So, probably ok for us older people, not so much for small kids. Don't leave food/booze in particular (leeches more) IN containers for long. Collector's anything will probably languish online. I think I've sold a set of 3. That's it so far. It got less than I paid for it, for sure. Books-the rule is: avoid much I can easily get at the library. Don't keep books I've outgrown or don't look nice on the shelf (get rid of most dust jackets). I'm keeping the cds. I like fidelity. MP3s are awful. Dvds, same. I've had stuff vanish off my computer, so we won't do that again. Thousands of my files-gone...

Your vlog was coming from my heart. Steps are not always baby in size. Sometimes it’s a plunge just go and stopping the “Analysis paralysis”. I dreamed and studied for about 3 years the nomad track after I saw my first KZbin Van-lifer…what a joy I found to look forward once retiring. A year and a half ago I found my van, sold my home and possessions, found a huge shop( prior business) on an acre in a very small town and state. After working on the van I’m now on the 6th day out traveling in the southeast heading at a leisurely pace stopping a couple of nights in campgrounds here and there. I agree with your astute observation, to go while the door is open because you never know when it will close! Thank you stating it so beautifully. Take care Stay safe! 🚺

Oh, Gma. We are kindred souls! ❤️ Your story is mine. I dreamed of being a travel writer 2 decades ago, studied videos and was planning to go, bought my van and was putting it all together. Then my house sold WAY too fast, I only had days to get rid of everything. No storage unit. My poor van was packed so you couldn't find the bed. I gave away, threw away and hit the road to sort it all out. But I feel I have to be gentle with people that shouldn't leave the nest too soon. They can't all take flight like we did. 😊

So glad this 70 yr ran across your videos a couple of days ago. I think I’ve seen them all now. I full timed in a large motor home for 13 years, then moved to tent camping the past two summers. Now have an older Pleasure Way van and in the process of getting it put together the way I want. I like your take on being safe, not fearful. Reading Walt Whitman over the top of the images is really cool! What you say, how you say it, and what scenes you show are meshing wonderfully. Thank you and keep ‘em coming please.

Hi Pam, I too am a 70yr old solo vanlifer. I have been full time in my van for 2 yrs now and spent a short time in my suv and before that I car camped for a couple years. Not howdy! The things we learn on this journey! I just discovered Jan’s site and am so looking forward to meeting up with the group often.

Hi Charlotte. 👋 So far, the meetups I've been to have been with women who are part time or new to vanlife. I'd love to have a meetup that is for fulltime vanlife women. I wonder if part timers would be offended.

I have been doing this for 5 years. At first I was nervous, not really afraid, but I made it work. At first I was nervous about BLM camping, but now I love it. I love the privacy. But I do still deal with loneliness. However, I do camp with others, within a few days I find myself ready to go back to being alone. I prefer being alone in a beautiful place.

I think it was beautiful in its own way. Quiet. That's tranquil. God to heal bad nerves. One reason I'm playing catchup on your video sequence, is because after having poison ivy for about 6 weeks, I got shingles for about 6 weeks. On the top n rt. side of the head.Forehead, face over to the ear and in my nose and began in my eye. So now I'm binge watching cause I feel as if I don't want to miss a video. I love all the scenery, music, anecdotes, poetry and just some good smarts, intuition and wisdom. You're also spot on with loneliness and fear. I can't start out, but I can sleep in my driveway. Test out my bed system to see if it needs tweaked before heading out. I also just watched Bob Wells n Brian's self-defense video. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. I even asked about what type of handgun would be advisable for me, me stature, age, strength. If we don't ... we'll always wonder. Hmmm... 🤔 What if. On fear of isolation, breakdowns, ... I hear there are Caravans of RVers, vanlifers and carlifers. So one might catch up with a caravan, or begin one. 🤔 I'm not sure sky BLM land. 🤷♀️ Well that's enough binging for now. Have a God day/ evening/ night and take care.

Just watched your video. So glad you changed your mind about rest stop. I looked up safety info on them and the answer was not to stay the night. Your talk on fear was right on point. I hope to be out there at the end of the year but I’m buying a class C. I have some health issue where the Van won’t be comfortable for me and being a senior comfort is big for me. And you are so on point about being by yourself. Also Bob and Susan have this sort of meetup thing for people that don’t want to travel alone. You don’t have to stay in a group you’re just meeting up with people who want to be around other people be not be with them. The video on how to do it is on KZbin. But thank you for posting. I’ll look at your other videos too. Have safe travels.

I use to travel by car and van, thousands of miles, in my 50s, (alone ) .. Im 68 now with a weak lung (I had a lung blockage from 2018 to 2020 with major surgeries in 2020 and 2021 ) Im doing well now, but I cant travel like I use to. ... ...I say GO! enjoy your life, see the Beauty on this earth!! we seriously only have a short time on this beautiful planet. I agree having plan A, B,and C... We may not necessarily be fearful, but be mindful and smart. Ive been alone 12 years, I rarely get lonely, there are people I talk to most every where I go. ( I just found your Chanel) looking forward following your adventures.

First Time here and really enjoying your vacation from the unreal world we are living in! I’m gonna be around a while, I can tell. I’m 70 and it just dawned on me - Seems I lost the last 10 years. They weren’t fun. Foreclosures, betrayals, Loss and plenty of bad advice. Re-evaluating and praying for divine guidance. Atleast I like mysel. Always feel better alone. Used to go to Italy, alone- 6 times, but in reality I was never alone. Back to square 1, now. Do I dare brush off my easel and go to the beach and become the Artist I am, trapped in a Catlady’s body? Well, I better do something, quick! Wish me luck! Thanks for being an inspiration, Jan!

Jan! I'm so grateful (and not surprised) that I found you! The universe is definitely YELLING at me. My name is Jan, I have 🦋 blue Butterflies on everything because I've been drawn to them all of my life. I've been watching and dreaming of van life for about 5 years now, I started with Pam the van, I believe she goes by Wild she goes now. I'm 62 years old and bored. But I still have obligations that keep me rooted... but I can't wait! Anyhow, I'm a smoker, love smoking, and I'm really bad at being TOLD to do something. But I have really bad circulation and have been told to quit if I want to live... and keep all of my body parts... lost a toe to bad circulation. So I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to use your intro words..( I remembered I could fly), and your videos as my motivation for my future. I still can't belive I found a TRAVELING JAN who loves BLUE BUTTERFLIES! Thank you SO much for sharing your journey. I hope you stay safe, and have the best time of your life!

Wow, Jan! 💙 🦋 💙 I want you to stay healthy so we can meet sometime in the not too distant future. I won't tell you not to smoke, but saving that money could go toward a van and gas. 🤑 Life is already short and health problems could be your cocoon. Get started breaking free of the cocoon 'cause you can fly!!!
