As a Canadian I can attest that yes, maple syrup can develop mold if left too long in the fridge. Because of the high sugar content, mold forms on the surface. Although mold can be removed in order to save the remaining syrup, it needs to be done carefuly, ortherwise you risk getting sick.

Two things about your syrup. Pure Maple Syrup can grow mold but it's only on top, not throughout. It can be removed and the rest of the syrup is fine. And next time put that stuff in the fridge. That will help it stay fresh.

Yes, I discovered that in a fairly full bottle I'd had in a cupboard. I strained it and poured it back in the bottle and kept it in the fridge after that.

If you even, get a piece of bread or a piece of a waffle in that syrup. Yes, it can get mold in it. Otherwise no it should not have. The same thing can happen in a butter tub. That's why you cut off a piece of butter and put it on your plate. Then spread that on what you are applying it too.

Not a chance. Nespresso machines draw a lot of power at startup. Even my 1000watt petrol generator won’t run one. You’d need a 2 kw inverter minimum.

Hey Ame, looks like one of those mornings where you're just going through the motions. For me just having coffee in the morning gets me going. Rarely eat breakfast, but have to have the caffeine rush. Never saw maple syrup mold like that before. Coming from an area where maple syrup is made I always buy a medium size jug that lasts me forever. I always keep it in my fridge, as opposed to at room temperature. Maybe the heat got to it, and caused it to do that. If there's any perservatives in that bottle that probably doesn't happen. I've sometimes had pure maple syrup over two years, and never seen green mold. Never seen waffles cooked in a pot..lol..but whatever gets the job done I guess. Maybe get yourself a mini toaster you could plug in your baby jack. Glad you got to see your folks. I love watching their videos as well. Very adventurous. I read the maple syrup bottle and it said to refrigerate after opening. A vehicle can reach high temperatures and spoil food. I'm a bit nervous about food poisoning so I refrigerate leftovers as soon as I can and I probably have thrown out still good food just to be safe.

Maple syrup always goes bad when not refrigerated after opening. When I have an abundance of maple syrup I will sugar it, for easier storage, and rehydrate as needed.

The mold in maple syrup is no big deal, just pour the syrup into a sauce pan and heat to near boiling. As it is heating, take a spoon and remove most of the mold. After heating the syrup to near boiling it is "good to go". The trace amounts of mold are no big deal, it won't hurt and you are unlikely to notice any change in the flavor. Large chunks of mold won't kill you either, they just won't taste very good.

Maple syrup never goes moldy unless something got into it, in my experience. It can get crusty, like honey, if it ages. But honey is also famous for medical properties, it NEVER gets moldy.

Yes, maple syrup can mold, but non-toxic. If you find mold on your maple syrup, carefully remove it from your maple syrup, then heat. Rip off any floaties remaining, then transfer into a clean container. Doing this will make your maple syrup safe again for consumption
