A Solo Female VW Campervan Travel Vlog UK.
I take my new Dawes Curve folding ebike on its first outing cycling through the sensationally scenic Forest of Bowland!
I take you along the Dunsop Valley route, a peaceful and leisurely riverside ride perfect for familiarisation with the bike. It was surprisingly quiet for such a beautiful day in the school holidays which was a bonus and we bonded immediately!
I show you a quick folding of the bike and the folded bike in situ inside the van, held in place by bungees attached to the table rail.
Once I've ridden it a few times I'll put together a video giving a more in-depth overview of the bike spec and my personal opinion on it, but so far so good 👍.
Why an an e-bike? To add power on those extra steep hills without having to get off and push now that I'm cycling alone, while still being able to cycle by good old-fashioned pedal power the rest of the time.
Why foldable? To avoid the need to install a bike rack on the tailgate.

Hi, I’m Sue from Lancashire in England.
This channel is just me getting out and about in a converted VW Campervan, occasionally with friends but mostly solo. Fun, laughs, moans, groans, mistakes, and successes. It’ll all be in here!
I’ll share new places, hints, tips, any info I discover and whatever else I think you might find useful.
I’ve begun vlogging my solo travels in ‘Vanya’, to help me re-engage with life after losing my husband 2 years ago. The world changed forever and working through my grief has been the hardest & loneliest challenge imaginable. Some days it still knocks me completely sideways, maybe it always will? I really don't know, but I'm coping a little better all the time.
By returning to the vanlife we enjoyed so much together, revisiting a love of photography, and immersing myself in nature, I’m regaining strength, balance, and hope to move forward through this completely unforeseen next chapter of life.

Congratulations on your awesome new e bike! It looks like your first ride was a huge success. The views along your way were spectacular from the rolling hill landscape, dramatic skies, livestock, birds, wildflowers, and waterways - it was all fantastic & felt like we were right there with you! But most importantly it was wonderful to hear you saying you feel alive & good! This makes our hearts very happy. Beautifully edited too. Have a wonderful day, Sue. 😊 -Jody

I do like e-bikes. I feel confident that hill was much easier than pedalling 😊 I used to ride a bike in my teens then, approximately 10 years ago, thought I could get straight back on one and go for a long ride….. 20 minutes later and I am walking up a hill with my bike 😂
@CamperVanya
@CamperVanya 2 жыл бұрын
Bri & I rode our push bikes lots and it was only at steep hills that we had to get off and push up. Now that I’m on my own I don’t want to have to do that so the battery is there as back up and was definitely needed on that hill. You still have to pedal even with battery though or it won’t supply power 😁

This is my favourite video so far. Apart from the fact I love that bike! I also appreciate the work you put into setting up those lovely shots, you must have been on and off that bike a dozen times, at least! Forget the wobbly camera, I really got that feeling of movement. The weather was great, the colours were beautiful and I grimaced when I saw that cattle grid. I have a Brompton bike and I used to cycle over the cobbles along the Thames in South London. There’s bones down there I didn’t even know existed! God knows what a cattle grid would have felt like. Well done. A triumph after your drone disaster.

Thanks Sylvia, I'm glad you enjoyed it because I had a lovely time out there on the bike. You're right it takes ages setting up seconds of a shot but I'm loving the process and hopefully the end results will improve all the time. Thanks for such positive support of the channel 👍 (ps the drone was replaced very quickly in a stress-free process through DJI care refresh 😅)

Hi Linda. Thanks for watching and commenting. I fully agree with what you say, in fact this is the only video so far where I hardly speak. I’m always chatting away in the others. I like the name Luke, it's a quirky play on words, especially when you're a Lancashire lass.😁 I don't agree with the talking comment. Sometimes it's just lovely to hear the peace and quiet and natural sounds around you. And voice over might not be a true expression of how you were feeling at the time. Talking at the time is the reality of how you were feeling there and then. Another lovely vlog, and I don't think it will be long before you get to your 1000th sub. I can't ride a bike and always wished I could. Beautiful views. You'll have to give us some tips on places to visit around there. We stay sometimes at a site in High Bentham on the edge of the Forest of Bowland but always head Ribblehead Viaduct way.
@CamperVanya

Aye, it’s the reet name for a Lancashire lass innit 😁. Re. the talking I suppose it’s all subjective (somebody else said I talked too much in another one), but for me, as long as I’m doing what feels right and true then I’m happy enough with what I put out. This video was more about introducing the bike, sorry Luke(!). While I was out I was quite struck by the positive effect it had on me being back on a bike and cycling through such beautiful surroundings. Thanks for your comment and continued support, I try not to make my videos too self-indulgent but at the tend of the day they are about my personal journey re-engaging with life after loss so I don’t always know myself what each one will bring x

@@CamperVanya you do great videos and they're always nice to watch. Ours was started as a way to get the photos off my phone as I had over a 1000 on there lol, and it gave me something to do during the second lockdown, so I made photo videos set to music. Then Karl got me the gimbal and the rest is history. Ours was always about showing lovely places to explore, but then we wanted to show how things are being on the road too and the ups and downs of it all. I like being creative but I like being real too, and what happens is what happens, just like yourself. Real life is better than staged. I don't think you talk too much. Another great video 👍. If you're ever over into North Wales, there is a lovely cycle ride from Prestatyn Sands (on the prom just past Pontins camp though no idea if the camp is still there) all the way to Rhos on Sea. Think it's about 20 miles each way, but you don't have to cycle all the way to Rhos lol. Plus, if you're visiting your parents in Clitheroe, you can always drive over the hill to Barrowford (park on Bull Holme car park or the car park up by Barrowford Locks) and cycle on the canal all the way to Skipton which is another lovely ride.......though once you reach the mile tunnel you have to cycle on the road for a short way to the other side of the tunnel at Foulridge. All depends how much range your ebike has because I've no idea how heavy your bike is to pedal if your battery runs out. I've done both routes on a normal cycle and also on an ebike.
@CamperVanya
@CamperVanya 2 жыл бұрын

Hi Sheila you would love the Forest of Bowland I’m sure. This cycle area in Dunsop Bridge is really pretty, peaceful and scenic. Feel free to drop me a line if I can help with sites in a particular area (email in ‘about’ section). Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏻

I thought the helmet cam was fine to be honest. Electric bikes are great and each year their range gets further and further. We used to carry a couple on the back of our caravan but in the end I got fed up with all the locks we needed to protect them. Will you get a rack for it or just carry it inside.

Oh good, I'm glad it wasn't dizzying to watch. Bri and I also used to carry bikes on a rack on the back of the motorhome but I'm hoping to avoid a bike rack. The bike folds down even smaller than shown (the handle bar goes down which I didn't do in this video) so I'm hoping that with a protective carry bag I can carry it in the back when driving and fit it in the front when stationary 🤞

Fantastic camera action! Loving it…bet you got some real exercise to capture this footage ❤️ Did you not fancy the downhill footage shots to cycle back uphill to fetch it? I wouldn’t either. Loving the reflective moments by the water. We really really enjoyed this one ❤️😍👍

Thanks so much for the positive and supportive comment. It was a great day and this bike is fab. The downhill shots free wheeling with my legs out would’ve been a good idea! 😊👍🏻

Hi, I love the bike it’s proven great for my own requirements so far but the wheels/tyres aren’t good on very bumpy off road sort of terrain which I encountered a lot of on this cycle path. Most are much better surfaces in my experience. It’s easy to maintain and handles well though and I only use the battery when extra power is needed, such as steep inclines. Being foldable too it either sits folded on my front seat (in a bag cover) or secured in the rear of the van. No bike rack necessary. I consider it a great purchase. An absolute game changer for me! 😊👍🏻

@@gkelly34 I definitely would NOT recommend it as a computer 😂 … but it would make an excellent commuter 😉 (sorry!)
