Guitar is like a choose your own adventure novel. Each scale a different book. Turn the book around and it's the same scale but FEELS differently all because of where we started from, and end. What an amazing instrument.

Great lesson, thanks. For those that like the Blues, the Mixolydian (Dominate) scale is well worth knowing, also. It works great over a - I7 - IV7 - V7, with it's minor 7th. Just shift the pattern's root from the I, to the IV, and then the V chords. It's also used in rock, country, jazz, funk, R&B, pop, you name it. To get an idea of the mode, listen to 'Sweet Home Alabama.'

Basically, to make a minor into a major, play 3 frets back. 12th fret box = E minor pentatonic 9th fret box = E major pentatonic which is also C# minor pentatonic. Well done.

Just say play the minor pentatonic of the 6th degree of the major scale - Em pentatonic over G major, for example. Keep tonal center on the G, B and D. Add the other G major scale notes and you're in Aeolian mode, like the long jam of 'Blue Sky' and other Allman Brothers songs

Being intermediate, i was hoping for more. Idk maybe how to blend both in a single lick without too much contrast in sound. Seemlessly and melodicaly. Which notes sound better together while transiioning. Eg. E, g g# b sound good as a run. Hope it makes sense.

Great lesson Mike i remember my struggle over minor Major i was really confused-i wish could run into this lesson one year ago!Just a small note that if you use minor scale over major prpgression then you also wanna inject major 3ds but if you would talk about it your message would not be so clear!🤔Btw your improv is very nice bery unique bends i would love to see your blues improv over 12 bar blue or some funky progression!👌

MIKE I know and play several scales every day the ones that you showed and many more. My problem is when I try to improvise blues I can't play the right notes together and bends and pull off and hammer ons to sound good. I keep being told that If I know say a lot of the blues scales that I should be able to improvise but I get stuck in the box. I end up just playing the scales like robot does it come in time knowing what sounds good and what blues scales that I can jump in and out of or is it music theory. I play all these scales every day and I am frustrated so I am learning about triads. I put in a lot of practice in at least on and off 2 to 3hours a day most days hooked to the amp and some days just playing while watching TV so that I can play with out looking at my fretting hand but I am not getting anywhere. So I went back to my instructor and I am learning other peoples songs. I want to improvise do you have any tips. I can't afford your lessons because I already pay $90 a month on lessons. My guitar teacher is a very well known guitar player and all the slide stuff in Nashville. If any one has any tips I thank you in advance. Great lesson

Avery Tyler My brother. I drink Fireball. Pretty much exclusively. I drink it because it’s lighter on the wallet while being effective, relatively speaking. But under no circumstances would I ever claim it’s a great whiskey. Saying that would be like saying McDonald’s has great burgers. Alas, McDonald’s burgers are cheap, and serve a specific purpose. Just like fireball. You may be on the younger side, if so, I understand. No animosity here. I’m just saying. There’s nothing great about it if you’re actually looking for great whiskey

Is there a modern way to efficiently learn lead guitar from scratch ?....maybe with some software ? I would love to create simple solos or licks for any of my favorite songs. And I dont want to be limited by this major/minor pentatonic stuff. Maybe the key is dorian or aeolian ? And you want to use bends / slides that cannot be confined in these typical boxes. How to use double-stops - they are so important to spice things up. Maybe it would be good to turn things around. Take a nice / famous solo that already exists and map it back to a fret pattern and explain which key it is in and what features of the key it uses - showing it all in a tabulator. It is kind of frustrating....

Hi Mike ~ is this the logic behind it? F#minor is the relative key of A Major so technically you're playing an F#minor pentatonic scale?
@TheArtofGuitar
@TheArtofGuitar 6 жыл бұрын
True it is the relative minor but it depends what chord you're playing over. If it's an A major then I see it as that, if it's an F# minor chord then I see it as that. Helps you play the chord tones better if you do that. :)
