Just to be safe; you shouldn't trust locals saying "aman" every time you ask them. But when some "ibu-ibu" in 25:50 confirmed it, then it's a fact... ;p *and don't get confused when Indonesians say "hati-hati" (yes, it literally means; be careful, but...), it's just our way of saying "take care" and our form of pray so that you're always in a good and safe condition

Salemba mostly known as students fight area, or just fight between community due to social issues since the 60's. But hard tough criminal/mafia coordinated area would be tanjung priok - warakas north jakarta, sea ports where the goods delivers: thiefs, drugs, illegal debt collectors, etc

Those places are safe in normal terms, I mean, if you want to find 'thrills', try the North of Jakarta, such as Warakas, or the port area of Tanjung Priok. When I was a boy, I used to visit my uncle there, he was in the Navy, whenever we visited, I'm the one slept IN the car at night, since many unattended vehicles lost its tires at the time 😂
