Are you a solo indie gamedev? Working hard on your game? Feeling bad about it? Stop feeling bad about it. Let me tell you why you should be proud of yourself, and what you're doing SO RIGHT.
I WAS going to put this on my second channel, but it's so 'related' to the gamedev process that I thought you all needed to see it. Hope you appreciate why!

This is my 'positivity quota' for 2021, by the way. It's all downhill after this.

The trick is to learn where your strengths are, harness them, and then fill in other needs with assets and outsourcing. This is the indie way. :)

I love the quote, “there’s a past version of you that is so proud of how far you have come” which I hope helps encourage you like this video did for me. Game Dev is complex with a multitude of skills, but boy is it rewarding. Just have keep doing a bit more and one day you’ll get there! Thanks for another great video with your humour and honesty. Love it.

I'm a professional gamedev for about 10 years now and I worked on many games. During the last year and something I've been working on my own solo project and even though I have all the experience of finishing so many projects I still fall in the trap of thinking that I'm working crazy slow. Your video actually made me feel better about myself. Thank you :)

So so good, I needed this. Sometimes I feel as if I need to get everything done because the people on twitter are doing the things I'm not doing, without realizing that some of them are in teams that can get progress done quicker. Self care is verrrry important and I'm glad you've convinced me to do it more often. Thanks for the advice.

So true, I'd just like to add that posting work online is also a full job that people do too

You're so right! I've been working on my first commercial release for about 3months, and I got contacted by an SFX company. I'm now working with them, but I couldn't remove the feeling that I should continue doing the SFX myself, because I'm an indie dev, and I'm making games SOLO. That's weird, and I need to be ok with it, because it's just normal, I can't do everything. So, thanks a lot for your video!

I'm a solo developer, and I buy assets where I can and use whatever I can lay my hands on. I'm doing 95% of the programming myself, the rest I need to find online because I'm terrible at maths. I have a friend who does some 2D drawings for me. My first game project is far too large, I realise it now. It's a 3D space shooter. From now on I'll only do much simpler 2D games. But it's still been a huge learning experience.

Super cool video! Lately I’ve been feeling I can do better than games made from a team of 6 people, who are really experienced. Most of the time it’s helpful, but sometimes it’s not, it’s maddening. Also love that end bit xD

I like the pep talk. I'm making a zero planning, completely free balling a little no story game. I wanted to finish it in 8 months but instead I'm finishing it in 15 months, and I've cut out extra play modes. It's just to learn. I'm only making it a commercial game to do everything once to kind of conquer my fears about it. It's a game that speaks to a narrow audience of people who really like building 2 structures to trap enemies. It is hard but you don't have to kill ourselves over it. I've taken a casual attitude toward it. That said, I'm going to try to get super serious about game #2.

I have a solo game project which in going on since November 2012... Well, I quit it in 2015 to focus on music, but it always bugged me, that I should finish it one day. Last month I finally restarted working on it. I made a pretty decent progress in just one month, but man... it's overwhelming how much work is still left to be done. Anyway, it was nice watching your devlog, and congrats on reaching the last 10%, looking forward to the release!

Mah mans just looked into my soul, read my mind and personally targeted my ego for enlargement. And it makes me feel all fuzzy inside. Thanks mate, and best of luck to whatever you plan on doing with that wonderful life of yours.

Ok but what about when you can make everything for your game except the game? Checkmate! (cries in C# illiteracy)

a game is a work of a band. A solo dev needs to wear a lot of hats, and obviusly will not be great in most of them, but without someone in a team that fill all holes a game can't be maded. There are so many areas to have a specialist. making a game is similar to making a car. Specialy 3D games have a long pipeline.

Thank you for the amazing video, this has really opened my eyes to what I really need in game development, I need a team haha. I'm sure I would be 100X more productive if I had a team working with me. While I'm getting my education its just to much work for me I think.
