I would say it would definitely been a better decision to release solo in December instead of may because you have less competition between films like infinity war and deadpool 2 and somewhat fatigue of star wars since it only came out 5 months after the last film instead of at least 11.

TFA was a disappointment, TLJ was the final nail in the coffin for many. It didn't redeem TFA's failures, rather failing to connect to the sage. It didn't give any hope for future star wars, and I'm afraid, as many other fans are, that IX won't save this. It's quite natural that one kinda bad movie in a series of good ones doesn't hurt so much, but one absolute failure following right away will. Personally loved Solo though, disney just failed marketing and timing completely.

I know older - non internet - Star Wars fans who live in blissful ignorance of the toxic fandom and general negativity around Solo and The Last Jedi. I also know younger fans who live in similar blissful ignorance. They just enjoy the films without paying attention to anyone else’s opinion. That’s what we should all get back to. When I got out of the theatre after Solo, I thought: "That was actually... quite enjoyable". Then my friend told me about all the people boycotting it and I was so confused. It isn't at all perfect. But since I though any movie with a recast Han Solo would be horrible, the actual movie was a very pleasant surprise.

When I left my first viewing of Solo I left with a smile on my face. This film gave me butterflies and a sense of adventure. I love the film noir look and the action packed adventure scenes and the comedy in the film did not leave me cringing like in the Last Jedi. I enjoyed Solo more than the Last Jedi by a long shot. When I ask people of they enjoyed Solo most say no and when I ask if they even watched it most say they haven't and that is a disservice to this film.

Totally agree. As someone who absolutely loved the bold new direction of TLJ, Solo was a bit of a step backwards for me but still a lot of fun nonetheless. It feels almost as if Disney wanted to release what are arguably the "riskiest" and "safest" Star Wars projects in a short timespan to sort of balance each other out and have something for everyone. Not a bad strategy in theory, but leave it to Star Wars fans to complain that Disney is taking too many risks and also retreading the past at the same time.

I really enjoyed Solo, to be honest, and I didn't expect that, mainly because I didn't exactly understand the need for this particular movie. But I am a completionist when it comes to franchises I like and I so I went to see Solo and was happy to find out that I quite enjoyed it. For me, it probably also helped that I saw the German version of the movie, where we got a VA for Han who was so perfect for the role that I honestly had to google that it's really not Harrison Ford's regular german VA. I agree with people saying that the movie should have come out around christmas, but as it is, I just hope that people will slowly come to realize that it's a movie worth watching and give it a second chance.

Once again I agree with everything you said. I loved Solo and I think it’s probably the most re-watchable film in the franchise. It was refreshing, something really different, not holding a huge burden of continuing a legacy because it’s a prequel. After IX I think this is the direction they should be heading, but unfortunately I think all “ A Star Wars Story” spinoffs are on hold for a while. Still itching for that Kenobi movie.

The lighting was intentional. They had as little out-of-camera lighting. They didn't want it to feel strange from bringt lights in where they weren't seen on film.

The thing with solo is that it didn’t feel consistent in one moment it was dark both literally and tonally and then it’s a comedy and I’m guessing this has to do with it be rewritten half way through production

I liked Solo. It wasn’t perfect, and half the characters were forgettable, but I still had a fun time with it. Han was never my favorite character to begin with, and admittedly the scene with the Imperial officer giving him the name “Solo” could’ve been handled better, but overall it was still fun, which is all I care about watching a Star Wars movie. Also it was interesting how Solo was the ONLY Star Wars movie to never mention the Force ONCE! Frankly I was ok with that, as I prefer the sci-fi side of Star Wars to the fantasy side of it, but that was still an interesting tidbit I noticed.

I was what... one the 8 people that were actually kinda excited for it, and I was more than dissapointed. It was pretty much everything I didn’t want it to be. My biggest problem with it was that I felt that the movie didn’t care about telling a good, cohesive story, but only to shove in as much canon mytholigizing and mindless fan-apiecement as possible. The more I think about it, the less I like it. I’m kinda glad it flopped. Having 2 Star Wars movies within 5 months of each other is a ridicilous decision. I don’t even think there should’ve been a Star Wars movie the entire year. Give us some time to breath, some time to get excited for what’s coming next. After it flopped I thought Disney would learn a lesson from this, but apparently not since we’re supposed to get Episode IX, Galaxy’s Edge, The Mandalorian, Fallen Order and The Clone Wars within 6 months of each other. Sigh. That being said, your video was great, and I’m very glad you enjoyed it, and I certainly wish I could too.

Great review. I feel Disney has done serious damage by poor response to fan's valid complaints about TLJ and even to a lesser degree TFA. Insulting fans because they don't like your films is no way to win them over. Couple that with stupid pandering like saying Lando is "pansexual" isn't helping either. But yeah Solo was a very fun movie and deserves a much better box office take.

I can't say I agree with you on this one. The characters were definitely not as strong as the performances, the story beats felt played out, very similar to one of my favorite movies, Casino Royale which oddly did the origin story thing much better. I didn't like how corny it was and some of the conclusions they gave to questions. For example, the Imperial officer giving Han his name and how Han flat-out says that he isn't going to say Chewbacca's full name rather than doing something more clever. Also Han's character arc is the same as in A New Hope, when it should be more about how Han became how we saw him at the beginning of A New Hope. Leave the Rebels out of the story, have Han get betrayed for another reason, maybe for a higher share and that's how he learns to look out for himself over others.

Personally, I was pretty lukewarm towards Solo. I didn't hate it, but I didn't care about any of the characters, it's visually unappealing, and I found it pretty unnecessary. Not every character needs a solo (pun not intended) origin story as a movie; that's what supplementary material is for. But more power to you. The Last Jedi was pretty good. This movie was awful though. Horrible attempts at comedy, pretty underwhelming performances, and (the worst aspect) the cinematography was dreadful. It was difficult to see anything at all in the frame and even scenes that were clearly supposed to be well lit (interior shots and the scene on the beach at the end) were terribly underexposed. I wondered multiple times throughout the screening what the DP was thinking when he lit/filmed the movie.

I have no idea what movie you watched. SOLO got exactly what it deserved at the Box Office. This is by far the worst Star Wars movie. I watched it twice and it's only redeeming quality is the on-screen debut of more of the Star Wars criminal underworld. We saw a drop of that in The Force Awakens. If Disney and Lucas Film had been smart, which they haven't, the back story of Han Solo would have been scrapped and film that properly introduced the Star Wars Syndicates (Crimson Dawn, Black Sun, the Crymorah syndicate, the Hutt Clan, and the Pyke Syndicate) would have been made. They're interaction with the rest of the galaxy (possibly including some of the Solo back story in some way if they really had to) would have been interesting to watch.
