I subscribed to your wish well farm channel and watched every video. Sometimes, I rewatch them bc I may have missed some tricks and tips you use. It's always nice to see what other farmers are up to and gain some knowledge from others such as yourself. I enjoy the outdoors as well, and it's nice to see what you do outside of farming. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up. I always get excited to see what you knowledge you will share in the next videos.

about 20 years ago i was going down eagle city at 3AM and the road had 2 inches of snow on it. as i aproached the bridge i stopped cause there were over 20 deer on it. after milling around a few minutes they walked single off it right in front of me. i think they were using the light of my headlights to see better.

Thanks! Fortunately, I know a few landowners along that river and I know where the city and county land is, but it’s mostly private property all along that river unfortunately.

it works well for the landowners cause over the years the river might move a few hundred feet but the property line stays the same.

Hard to believe you can find any time away from farming to enjoy the rivers! 👍 Great vid. I'd love to kayak some rivers in SW Ohio. I'm in East central Ohio, there's lots of waterways around but I like to explore new areas. I've been doing sections of the Tuscarawas river and working my way to the Muskingum, (Coshocton) Love your vids and info you share! And I agree 100% with you on land ownership along rivers. Kinda sucks in Ohio....

(I think comments help the algorithms is I why I try to comment! Gotta try to help keep the good channels around!) Greetings. State Route 55 is not the same as Old Troy Pike, at least not in Champaign County. The bridge you pass under just before reaching SR 55 is Old Troy Pike, a county road. I live just around the corner. However, some historic maps may refer to what is now 55 as The Troy Pike. I enjoyed taking a trip with you down the river that is essentially in my back yard.

Hey Jason, I just found your channel and I'm here looking for kayak camping routes in Ohio and down into Kentucky. I live near Cincinnati. That river you're paddling is gorgeous. Have you ever paddled it in late Fall or Early Winter? I'm building my kayak presently, so it will be a month before I'm finished with it.
@jasonwish-
@jasonwish- Ай бұрын
I've kayaked it in every season multiple times. It's not the best for camping but it's doable if your willing to stealth camp on sandbars. There are a few areas that are city/county owned land but for the most part it's private property along most of it. The Little Miami River is also a good option, I have a three part series on that one as well. I don't know much about kentucky rivers....Michigan is where it's at if you like clean clear water and awesome camping.
@kaisailor1
@kaisailor1 Ай бұрын
@jasonwish- I know the little Miami. I used to go to Morgan's Livery and rent canoes way back in the day. It's about 15 minutes from my home. I've not paddled in Michigan but I've been to several places in the state camping and hiking. You mentioned Sleeping Bear Dunes, I've been there. I love that place. I've got a 26' sailboat that I'm slowly restoring and outfitting for some sailing up there, but probably won't have it finished until next spring.

I'm debating on doing a 2 or 3 day trip on the Mad or backpacking Old Loggers Path in Pennsylvania this weekend...well long weekend anyhow. You need to backpacking the Porcupine Mountains in the U.P. You'll end up camping on the shore of Lake Superior and have 2 miles of pristine shoreline to yourself and it's one of, if not the best campsites I've ever had backpacking. Here's what I want to know about the Mad....how many Eagles do you see in a 10 miles stretch?
@jasonwish-
@jasonwish- Ай бұрын
Ok, I never seen any eagles on the Mad, but I've seen dozens on the Mohican River and several on the Little Miami, maybe even the Kokosing. Too hot, humid and buggy for me to enjoy backpacking in the summer, but if you asked me this in October, I would definitely say Old Loggers Path! And I've been trying to get up to the Porkies for years! I already have my fall and winter taken up this year but I will get up there in 2025!
@natehoover5266
@natehoover5266 Ай бұрын
@@jasonwish- good to know. I love seeing wildlife more than just the kayaking in itself but I'll definitely try the Mad. It definitely looks fun. Old Loggers Path was kinda tough. Whoever designed it didn't know what a switchback was. Lol. Pennsylvania was beautiful though. Definitely do the Porkies asap! Camping on Superior was a treat. This fall I'll be in SC for a wedding so I'll be backpacking down there in the fall but next year I'm shooting for Minnesota or Maine for a trip. Maybe both!
@jasonwish-
@jasonwish- Ай бұрын
@@natehoover5266 are you familiar with the Palmetto Trail in SC? I've been section hiking it each winter and will be finishing all 500 miles of it this fall, then moving on to the 118 mile Bartram Trail which is connected to it.

@jasonwish- I have but I never looked into it much because being solo I usually try to find loop trails. I'll definitely check it out some more. I'd love to do a full thru hike someday. Like the Superior Hiking Trail or the Uinta Highline trail. I hike 104 miles of the Colorado Trail solo for my first ever backpacking trip. It was quite the experience. Kinda crazy on my part having zero backpacking experience.

Obviously having two vehicles is the best, to have one at each end but if you’re solo, like I am many times, you can park your vehicle at your takeout after you have already stashed your kayak or canoe in the weeds, trees, or cornfields at your put in and then Uber back to your kayak. I’ve even left my kayak with a camper host at a campground before that was near the river. If you don’t want to use an Uber, you’re only other option is to walk jog or bike back to your kayak from your takeout. Another option is to have someone pick you up when you take out and bring you back to your vehicle where you started.
