Have a plan for everything. I know your time commitment to prepare and present your presentation is a gift. Thanks for the gift. My father was a career soldier. Served WWII on a destroyer to Okinawa. Got out and joined the Army (8th Army) and fought in Korea. Stayed in until 1971. My experiences began plundering is gear when he came in from the field. Henry I wouldn’t solo camp outside if he set me up. His pancho for a shelter, an army air mattress, infantry sleeping bag and army flashlight. It was a Friday night. I remember hearing taps on post off in the distance. I slept good. Saturday late morning he finally checked on me. I was hooked ever since on gear and the outdoors. Thanks for all you do and stirring old memories. I am headed for my 69th year.

Love the military surplus gear, let's be honest the majority of us who do this probably started off with used gear they got from family or surplus stores on the cheap. I'm pushing 40 and still have gear I had when I was 14, because it just lasts. More surplus gear videos can never be a bad thing.

AAAH, the truly OUTSTANDING memories of back yard, then Scout camping using Mil-Surp gear in the mid-late '50s, and the early''60s! We, my late brother & I, even had dad's Korea War issue K-Bar to drag along!. Also, we had shelter 1/2s, canteens and stainless steel mess kits and utinsels. When the base quartermaster condemned a bunch of down sleeping bags, dad "saved" several from the dump, mom hand sewed the rips & tears, and we slept as warm as if we'd been @home... Good times, GOOD TIMES!!! 😁👍❗️

The "carrying case" for the white gas stove is actually a cup and pot for the stove and the "wrench" works as the handle for both. Dual purpose to save weight and space. Used and loved this stove in the 60s and 70s.

Hey Corporal, a little story for you. When I was growing up in New Hampshire, my extended family needed help clearing out an old house my brother in law inherited from his dad, who passed away 5 years before. I was about 15 at the time. My brother inlaws dad was a ww2 veteran, so he had all kinds of mess kits, tarps, canvas bags (gunny sacs I think they called them), to put it all in. I was told to keep anything I wanted so pretty much all of it. I can't tell you how many hours I spent attempting to use these things. so much fun, but I wish had your videos to actually learn how to use it all. its all gone 37 years later but I had a blast pretending i knew what I was doing. Thanks for being here, especially at such a chaotic time, when these skill are priceless.

As a Vietnam Grunt serving 1970-71 we had no internal frame on our Rock Sacks. Only an external frame. A case of C-Rations came with a heavy cardboard sleeve that fit over the case with baling wire holding it into place. We used the cardboard wired to our frame to keep the contents of our ruck from poking us in the back on our long humps across Vietnam.

1980 to 1984 never had or saw a chemical light used. Only saw a squad stove used once. They had them but never saw anyone with an ass pack. When they switched from C-rats to MRE's they didn't have flameless heaters and they stopped issuing heat tabs, so that was fun. I was an 03 grunt so spent many a day and night afield. Thanks for the memories and SEMPER FI. Oh yea we also had to supply our own tabasco.

This video reminded me the most of my scouting days as a kid. When most, if not all, camping gear was "hand me downs" from family who were military, or were military surplus. Especially since camping was not as commercialized as it is today, which is almost "glamping" from what I was used to. Side note, leave it to a Marine to say a 25 year old MRE tastes good. Great video, thank you.

My dad was a green beret in the special forces and taught me a lot of these skills when I was young. We would go hiking/camping for 2 weeks at the time, and he would deliberately get us "lost" so he could teach me land navigation skills and to find our way back to the trail or truck. These videos bring back a lot of memories and makes me appreciate what little time we had together. He passed away August 25th last year and I want to go do some camping and utilize the skills he taught me. Your videos have helped me to remember some things and learn a lot that he didn't have the time or know how to teach me. Thank you for the content man, he would have liked this stuff too.

I'm a fan of K-Bar type knives. Unfortunately, the military was governed by "How much is it going to cost" and "How Fast can you make them?" So what I have is a full tang Gerber, good steel, insanely sharp, costs a lot. I have beat the crap out of that knife, it has yet to let me down. This is not an advert for Gerber, but I willl recommend them.

Please don't ever apologize I love how that anytime something goes wrong you show how to fix it that's why I've been a follower of yours for 5 years. Like I said in my other post your videos have actually saved my life a couple times when all things have gone sideways. So you know not everyone's going to like what you've just offer but the people who do will always be tuning it. Pierre that's the one thing about us out there who actually are in the trenches we're like oh what do we do if everything goes shity and go sideways. And you are always there to come for us and that's what I love about your videos you like it's nothing in the world we can make do with what we have and that's why I like your guys's videos. Because everyone wants to show you the perfect scenario but what happens if you forget a piece or what happens if you didn't get the light material or what happens if you don't have the right gear I think that all of that. Comes to our head but we never announced it and I like that you always go okay I don't have all the pieces I'm not going to cry over it I'm just going to make do and that's why I love your videos and that's why you're my favorite KZbinrs

Another great video. About 5-6 years ago I had your desert fox hole video pushed into my view list few times and it went into my watch later folder, now the last few years I’m watching every week! Thanks for all the great content from Australia

If you can hunt down the German Bundeswehr shelter half pup with original poles, you should pick up a pair and try that out (though you being 6' might be a bit tight). I say original poles because people always use either East German Zeltbahn or USGI poles and they suck for it. Both halves rolled up, poles and stakes (again, original poles and stakes) rolled in it like in the USGI single half roll, it's both more compact and lighter. It's also got camo on one side (the Flektarn is actually great for Fall woodland) and OD on the other. In winter months, if you WERE to use it (we used either mss or just a poncho leanto after OSUT) having two people in there would be tight but WARM. Wouldn't have the poles right in the middle to knock the tent down, either. I finally broke down and forked out for a Pomoly and sewed a stove jack in, it's very nice for a canvas pup.

Great content. Loved the thought you put into it and the history lesson. I would have thought that Russian gear would have been represented more but availability is King always. Great work and love the Coleman stove.

I’m sincerely grateful for your concise skill training. My only concern is the impact of “Corporal Style” cuisine on your colon/heart health😂. Even though I’m a thru-hiker, using an ul kit for the AT, the skills I’ve learned here have reduced my dependency on equipment. Skills>gear. Thank you
