Just at the part of the video where you are hanging the hammock, apologize if this was pointed out by yourself or another comment, but the straps around the trees should actually be a little different. You want the part you are hooking the hammock to to be as straight as you can. Then all the weight is along the tree and not just on the one look. I know its counter intuitive when you are familiar with basically any other knot, but it also makes a lot of sense once you learn it. Great videos either way, I tend to binge them while sitting at my desk, working from home!

I like the bivi option, with that air pad it'd be too noisy for my taste. I have an Amok hammock which requires an air pad and it wakes me up every time i move. I ended up making a custom over for the pad from a bed sheet. It helps, but not perfect. Thanks for the video and I'm glad you're doing better.

Mike, I'm pretty much recovered from my ECOLI infection, which infected my urinary tract and my kidneys, though I think my body is still a little below par in fighting minor infections, as I have had a couple including and eye infection. On the mend now, but it seems it can affect your auto immune system and short term make you more susceptible to other infections.

Glad to hear you are on the mend! Did you do a course of antibiotics too? How long for your recovery?it definitely weakens you for a long time.

@TAOutdoors I ended up having IV at A and E the first time I went there, and the had 4 courses of oral antibiotics. I would say it took me about 5 weeks or so to really start feeling better, but still a little run down. Plenty of vitamins and healthy food, seem to be helping an awful lot.

I bought one of those Aldi sleeping bags. There's so little down in there, you can see right through it. There's more nylon than insulation. I used it once inside the house in summer, and I was freezing. I found a thin synthetic fleece blanket to be far warmer. Regarding the bivi, was it flat enough that you could sleep on your side, or did you have to remain on your back?
@jjdd5194 ай бұрын
Great clip! Can I ask what the leather type material you took out of your bag was at 23:28

How did you find your back after sleeping in the hammock? I have a Hennessy Hammock that you can use as a bivi, doesn't have rods but easy enough to find a stick or use a bike. I like sleeping on hard surfaces and find the curve when used as a hammock gives me a bad back. apparently if you sleep on a diagonal, corner to corner, it means your back is straighter. I still get a stiff back from it though. Have bought a snugpak instead.

Thanks for doing this video. I’ve had a curiosity about these “hammock tents” or “bivy hammocks,” including this exact model. However, reviews are hard to find. (I don’t currently have such an item, due to my inexperience with hammock camping: just a large Bivy. But I’m getting there…)

@@TAOutdoors Meanwhile, do you find that it’s heavy? My choices are down to pretty much this model and one other (Lawson Blue Ridge), and both of them are described as being heavier than other small shelters, like the Bivy tent that I just bought. (this could be important, when it comes to packing, such as whether I decide to hike with it, or carry it on a bicycle.)
