In this solo overnight camping in the woods, we were on a mission to test some new gear. Our shelter consists of the OneTigris Tentsformer Military Poncho Shelter and we attempt to make fire using the Swedish Fire Torch.

Another great one mate. I like the rawness of your videos, showing us that sometimes it doesn't go to plan. Your bivvy and tarp camping style has made me dust off my 1988 resealed ex army goretex bivvy and my DD tarp, much respect and thanks 👍🏻

I finally found a couple of shops in England that will ship quickly and reasonably to the United States. One of the items I'm going to get is the complete crusader canteen/cup/cooker system. The U.S. system is similar but not as stabile IMO

I came for the tent but stayed for the bush craft…. I use the Solognac pack as my lightweight backpack & I’m a huge fan of the OneTigris tents.

Great video mate. You always keep it REAL with NO B.S. ! I finally settled on a sleep system for my "emergency" kit . A Snugpak XL Jungle Blanket inside two US GI poncho's snapped together. All 3 (2 ponchos & the Snugpak in their respective compression sacks) take up the same room as 1 GI woobie (poncho liner). I have a nice bergen for recreational camping. But it's not great for extended wearing/hiking. My emergency or "bug-out" is the American LC-2 pistol belt/harness system (PLCE is the British Army equivalent) with a variety of pouches/bags for all my kit. And I can wear it for hours & can get to the important kit without having to take it off. That 1 Tigress poncho shelter must be new. First time seeing it.

Hey Barone! Thanks for sharing your kit preferences! It’s much appreciated! It’s certainly smart to be prepared especially with the way the worlds going! I just checked out the LC-2 pistol belt and I have to say it’s pretty genius! To have everything you need on hand without the need to dismount anything is the way to go! When it gets a little warmer here I want to check out the US poncho and liner and utilise it as a Ranger Roll I believe it’s called? Also, regarding the Crusader Cookset, you won’t be disappointed my friend! Thanks for your comment as always, it’s much appreciated, hope you’re having a great weekend 👍

@@TreeDeepOutdoors Ranger Roll is the proper term. You're a tall gent so be careful of the size of the poncho. I was able to find ONE company in the states that manufactures the GI poncho & sells to the public - ORC Industries. 96" by 66" @ $40 US. Only comes in plain olive drab, or the horrid old ACU camo. I also found by accident a piece of old kit from the Vietnam era that allows you to carry an extra butt-pack or sleep system suspended from the LC-2 harness -- the US M-1956 Butt-pack adaptor, which is pretty genius. And another example of good kit being phased out to obscurity. Looking forward to seeing you next video. Cheers !

I just bought one of these. FIRST day out, we had torrential rains. ALL the water proofing washed off after being out for about 2-1/2 hours. By that I mean totally gone. I might as well have been wearing a bug net.

Good Video dude, Interesting kit choices too. Finding the right kit for particular times of the year and for particular weather conditions is a very objective thing to do and everyone will do something different in what they choose and the way they put it to use. Good example of that is the way you made you Swedish torch, got there in the end fa sure. But I like to cut the log, use my scotch auger to bore deep in the centre, and then in from the side so the two holes intersect each other, then out with my bow saw and I cut the quarters lines. Try to keep the bottomed quarter in height of the log untouched then you don't need to tie it . Now charge the centre with tinder and light ! Use the side hole to blow through to give air in the early stage until the fire takes. Use a big enough log and it will go all night. Yes dude I do have a long scotch auger made by me for the woods, and excellent tool with loads of uses and I recommend you look into them. Top video bud keep them coming really enjoy the work and watching your skills progress. Big thumbs up form Hampshire.

Hey Moosey! I may have to invest in a scotch auger because I am a fan of the no maintenance fire! Favourite fire lay is the upside down fire but that soon burns out so as you said, a big enough Swedish torch will do for the majority of the night! You’re definitely a man of much knowledge when it comes to the outdoors and I very much appreciated your input, advice and suggestions! I certainly take it all on board so thank you sir!

I have the one Tigris smokey hut hot tent. Still haven't had a chance to really test it out though. Set it up in the backyard at probably -30 F° but my spark arrestor was clogged so it just smoked me out.

Hey my friend! I’ve used it in poncho form, it’s very long! Especially if you haven’t got it covering a pack on your back! The bottom reaches the top of my feet and I’m 5,11. I’ll be doing a review on it hopefully in the next couple of weeks detailing it 👍

Snugpak zippers are horrible from what I have seen, weak and prone to snagging. That said, I know they are very popular and are generally available unlike some others.
