@Corporals Corner Wow Shawn, you weren't kidding about the swamp! I had no clue although maybe you'd mentioned how the water could come up on that part of your property. A possibility dumb question, when warmer weather comes along, any plans for skeeters & other nasty flying creatures? I forgot what you had some vids ago to keep them away & whatever it was seemed effective. Just hope it's really ultra effective for the really rambunctious ones who're hell bent for leather about feasting on you or any of us who deal with that issue! Over where I am, some of those flying vampires treat DEET like it's salad dressing or maybe cake frosting for all intents & purposes!

@Corporals Corner For lateral drift even with a compass, there was a place past Chelmsford MA. going towards Billerica known as "Dudley Road". This was ( & as far as I'm concerned IS) reputed to have all sorts of "Paranormal" things including if you go there by vehicle, there's a good possibility your car or whatever never is in the same spot you left it even if you use landmarks. I kind of wonder if the same thing happens with the "Bridgewater Triangle" area? I've never been out there but the whole history including that area of Fall River is pretty spooky. I guess the question becomes what happens if you can't rely on your compass or landmarks from them on?

@@moronnucleosus3339 Even being sober, I could never really do a fully straight line to save my butt. My left foot / leg has always had some weirdo issue. Even when I walk, my feet go like this -> \ / so, they make a "V" in stuff like snow or sand. I still get from point A to wherever though.

Great job Marine. Basics and dependability. It is nice to know I can count on your content to be there. If someone gives any flak about you teaching land nav, or doing it by the numbers, they can silence that noise. They can say that there are a thousand videos on this topic, they can silence that noise too. Every NCO understands the importance of hip pocket training. Every service member who sits in the class and acts bored, most of the time is not capable of doing the land nav in practice. It doesn't matter if you take the class 300 times, if you still can't do it. If everyone was able to, then we wouldn't continue teaching it. Outstanding dedication to the principles of survival. Also people need to realise, just because they have heard a class before, does not mean that there is nothing to learn. Every instructor has a different way of instructing. Different people learn different ways. I myself have taught this class hundreds of times. I have sat through this class taught by others hundreds of times. I still sat here and listened to your class and enjoyed the instruction. Your content has me looking forward to Sunday releases. I also look for your Wednesday shorts. If it ain't rainin' we ain't training. You do a great job.

Education and entertainment! This is why I love your channel. Watching you build different shelters is very cool, dont get me wrong, but the thing that I love most about this channel is the wealth of knowledge that you bring, and your willingness to share. I love the idea of the online classroom, and I, for one, would pay for lessons like these in the comfort of my own home. Thank you again for your willingness to persevere with these weekly videos. Like a bazillion years ago FM 3-25.26 was one of my gospels. After I retired I ran across a special edition of The American Practical Navigator, which gave the best, most easily understood written instruction on map and compass I ever read. Want to add to your warning about drifting off your azimuth - beware of "contouring" or unconsciously level-walking along a contour line. Happened to us once at Benning when us sergeants stupidly let a new 2LT lead our company on a X-country march. My highly experienced Pathfinder Platoon Sergeant took over and un-F'd the situation. Real happy that this video is back to 30 minutes. Sincerely, good luck with that. Thanks, Sean.

Even though I enjoy watching your builds for overnighters I really liked this video and I appreciate the class. I have watched other videos on basic compass use by people I think are good instructors but this one was extremely clear and helped me pull the basic details together in my mind. It also helped me understand why so many of those KZbin instructors say they prefer a compass like you were using. I also.liked seeing you use the cabin you built and hope that you will use it in videos in the future whether for teaching videos like this one or the fishing videos you mentioned.
