Rock fishing the base of the Mangawhai Cliffs north of Auckland. A first time visit to a popular walking trail that produces Big Snapper at the first random spot fished. Stunning scenery and some good size squid at night to cap it off.

Congratulations for following the principles sustainable fishing. A lesson for everyone here. Love seeing you return those fish. Those snapper were in prime condition and their colours were fantastic. Perfect sea and weather conditions. Well done!

Thanks mate. Got to the place at the right time I think and I only take enough for a feed sometimes and even then its more about the excuse just to get out there.

Park up at Langs beach to the north of here, and walk back south around the coast for a couple of hours, until you get to a gut that you almost cant walk any further south. Big fish

I see you have strayed a little this episode, you have snuck into the south end of my fishin playground, lol. In fact on a good day that would have been me out there in that boat. Another great fishin hike adventure is to a place called Smugglers Cove which is at the tip of the furthest away headland to your left. keep it up bro.

@@DarkmoonAngler cool, accommodation here if you ever need it, this is the rock I like the most but there is one other that's also pretty epic as well, few other vids on the channel if you are interested. the ideal scene is 6am high tide with w- sw winds and small swell. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYOnkmp3dsdlrZo

Epic Mish and fish, right place at the right time! I know you're goin for more distance but have you put out a nice solid bait with no sinker lately? Last time I just got smashed off the rocks and was only going out a little way. I was in super rocky terrain and it paid off big time. No snags at all- bonus! Keep em coming bro! 🤜

Veeeery nice bro, just wondering, besides the tides, is there anything you consider before heading out? Or what are are some of the key factors you look into before going on your mission, keep it up brother love the content
@DarkmoonAngler
@DarkmoonAngler 2 жыл бұрын
Moon phase, bite times (tides4fishing.com), wind direction, time of year, and preferably rising pressure on the barometer. Lots of factors, I just try to get as many in your favor as possible.
@russelldahlberg7717

Cool vid man, keep it up your channel will be big in no time with clean good content like this. Do you reckon it would be worth a shot live baiting/ Slide baiting from the smaller east coast beaches like Ruakaka, Oakura and Bland bay? I notice you only seam to do it on the west coast. Thanks for sharing your trips.
@DarkmoonAngler
@DarkmoonAngler 2 жыл бұрын
Yes to trying in those places. Look for birds working in close to the beaches. Good indicator of where the bait is and hence where the predators will go to feed, otherwise it never hurts in general to just have a livie out past the sand bar, weed line or a river/creek entrance. Have picked up a lot of snapper sliding out east coast with small livies. Nothing spectacular so far but definitely big snapper potential while waiting for those kings to come by.

@@DarkmoonAngler Cheers, thanks for taking the time to reply, did you use burley in this vid, it looks like you travel pretty light.
@DarkmoonAngler
@DarkmoonAngler 2 жыл бұрын
I take a burley to keep the bait and beer cool and then use it up at night or morning when its not needed. Also carry frozen bottles of salted water. In this video the distances cast made burley ineffective. My pack weighs close to 20kg going in and about half that plus catch going out.

Can you describe your sinker break off setup.
@DarkmoonAngler
@DarkmoonAngler 2 жыл бұрын
I add a bit of lighter mono with a uni to uni knot for the sinker. not so light that it snaps during cast but lighter than main line so if a big snap drags it into a snag, the sinker breaks off but you have a good chance of staying connected to the fish.
