Now I understand why even when playing with both hands the music can still sound bland and uninspired. It's definitely not enough to just play chords in one hand and the melody in the other. This is a revelation! Thank you so much, Noah BTW this is the seventh my series playlist of my seven favorite NK videos 😀
@jimkangas41764 жыл бұрын
Excellent. I am a guitar player and this is exactly the problem I'm working on. I've found a few approaches so far that I like: very minimal with melody and just a few notes, call and response in different registers, playing the melody in 2 or three note open voicings, fills with 4ths, harmonized bass line walkups, walkdowns. All easier said than done, of course, but my biggest fear of of playing solo is boring myself as well as the audience.

I’m not sure about you, but what got me comfortable playing solo was literally studying the Classics ... this was the basis you started from to build the necessary technique and performance skills, particularly using the extreme registers as it’s about playing what’s written. From there the improvisation can seamlessly flow into that creating a parted grounded connection with the instrument. I would love to know if you agree with this statement.
@Starritt_Piano3 жыл бұрын
The classical repertoire gave discipline, concentration, patience, analytical skills for structure and technical control, mental and muscle memory and frequent performance exposure. It taught me to imbed and map out the keyboard choreography in an automatic way so I could always imagine what I wanted something to sound like without always having to be at the instrument all the time to find what the notes are ... the music comes first ❤️❤️❤️

Once again, a ton of great information. Problem is, stuff goes by so quickly it's really difficult to catch on the fly. I really wish that the examples were notated {other than by the machine gun barrage of stuff in the corner of the screen) so they could be grabbed and studied without being overwhelming.

I like this idea. I'm wondering instead arpeggiating a few octaves having an a b a type run. Then maybe at the top playing it down continuing with the pattern b a b. What's eluding me is hearing something particularly tasty that I want to learn then but being able to find it when I've got a keys nearby.

I just can’t find an introduction to these techniques. I can’t get any further than an ordinary 2 5 1, which I also find very boring in the meantime. I don’t think you can teach yourself this through the many tutorials on KZbin, but only through an all-day music school.
