It took me eight tries to finally make it to Sturgis. First attempt I got as as far as Park City, Utah (from Stockton, CA) when I got a call telling me my younger brother just died from a massive heart attack. Dead-headed back to CA… every time I stopped to refuel people asked “Going to Sturgis?” Uh, I was. My brother just died. Uncomfortable pause… “So what? Come with us and we’ll have a drink on him!” Second time my daughter, SIL, and two grand babies were aboard a United flight bound for Guam where she had volunteered to serve as a doctor for three months. Halfway there the plane caught fire and emergency landed on Midway Island (think WWII!) We flew to Hawaii to hold them…. Third attempt daughter informs me grand baby #3 is due week of Sturgis. 4th year I went to Ireland instead. 5th year I went to Israel & Greece. 6 & 7 were the Covid years. Finally made it in year 8!

Been riding since I was in diapers what I’ve come to realize after years of riding in groups is I don’t like riding in groups perhaps it’s my age it’s hard to say why but it seems to me that the thrill of blasting around sharp corners and curves isn’t why I ride 70 miles per hour on the inner state because the sign says it’s legal just isn’t my style anymore. Just because a bike will cruise at 80 doesn’t mean that’s how fast I have to ride. There’s that plus it takes the joy out of riding for me. I think so many people get so hung up on how fast they can go completely voids the joy of being on a bike. The most enjoyable rides I’ve ever had were riding on back roads at 30-40 miles per hour never using 6th gear just putting along is what I prefer. I went through that phase where going fast was thrilling but I’m over that now I want to see the sights , smell the smells and miss very little. Just try it chances are you’ll have to solo ride if you do.

I am not a biker but always curious about events like this. I think that sense of community is quite common in most things that people really enjoy be it hiking, photography, etc. Those who really enjoy the culture are really the people you end up feeling the most comfortable around once the common ground is found. Passion for your hobby and the recognition in another is huge for a lot of people.

People forget that the Tail of the Dragon used to have a 50 mph speed limit. Now it’s 30 mph and trucks are no longer supposed to use the road. So there WAS once upon a time it was much more dangerous. With that said, Iron Mountain Road is my favorite road I’ve ever ridden so far. It was a downright spiritual experience. I went early in the morning and had it pretty much to myself. Another great video.

I was watching one of your videos on my computer, and then I walked over to my bed to pet my dog and ended up lying down. and one video would end and the next one would start, I probably listened to ten of your videos in a row with all of the commercials. lol. I started riding bikes when I was just a little kid. first on a mini bike, and then I got a Honda 70 trail bike. and I would go out almost everyday and ride on the dirt for hours. when I was 10, 11, 12 , 13, I was probably one of the best kid dirt riders in the world, at least in my mind. but then I moved and I wasn't around dirt, and my dirt bike riding ended. but I have ridden motorcycles my entire life, and that dirt bike riding I did when I was a kid has stayed with me my entire life. and made me a better rider. watching one of your dirt bike videos made me want to try to get on a dirt bike again. even though my body is not the rubber band it used to be. I would just have to ride allot easier but I know I would still love riding on some nice trails. in 1984 I bought the very first Kawasaki Ninja, ( 900 ) I really loved that bike. but now many years later, where I have been living is mostly riding through small streets, so for the last 12 years I have been riding a little scooter around town, and my bigger bike is a Ninja 250. but starting around three years ago I got the itch to ride a big fast bike again like my 900. so I started test riding bikes, I test road the Yamaha MT07 and MTo9, a Ninja 400 and 650, a Z900. a Triumph street triple RS. a speed Twin, a Trident. a Honda 650 and 500, Royal Enfield 650, and recently a Yamaha xsr 900 which I was really close to wanting, but something was holding me back. maybe the fact that where I live it is around 3000 more dollars than in America, all new bikes are more expensive hear, so I started looking for 2nd hand bikes in new condition, and even though I couldn't test ride it I had my eyes out for a 2nd hand Kawasaki Z900RS. because of how much I loved my 1984 Kawasaki 900, but every time I found one it got sold before I was able to get it. then I came across three 2nd hand bikes online all on the same day that were all really sweet bikes with very low KM. or miles. but they were all around a 2 and half our drive from me, each way, one was a 2017 Triumph street triple RS with only 1800km. one was a 2018 BMW s1000R with only 2400 km on it. and a 2019 Ducati 939 Supersport with only 2200 km on it. all three bikes looked like new in the pictures. and I thought for a few days on which one to go for, watching lots of KZbin videos on each bike, hoping they wouldn't get sold, and the only one I had actually tested was the Triumph which I new I loved, but after allot of videos and thinking. I decided on the Ducati 939 Supersport. and I had it delivered without even seeing it in person. and when it was taken off of the truck. I was like OMG this is such a beautiful machine. it looked like it was right off of the show room floor. and when I got on it for the first time and road it down the street. I was in love. it is such a nice bike. I think there is a good possibility that I will keep it for life. my 64th birthday is in a few days, so it was kind of like buying myself a birthday present, it doesn't mean I wont ever buy another bike. but I don't see myself selling this one. and part of me still wishes I could buy the other two bikes. because I loved all three of them. and if I lived in a house with a garage where I could have them all safe and look at them everyday, I would've been temped to buy all three of them, but I live in a condo, and have to park my bike in the building parking garage, but there is also the possibility that I will also get a dirt bike and try finding some trails somewhere. it will make me feel like a kid again, sorry for the Long comment. happy trails.

I've never been to Sturgis but if I do go one day, It'll be when the rally is not happening. I'm not a big fan of huge crowds. Doodle if you ever get a chance (I put this on Meg's channel too) you should ride the Swiss Alps in Europe. Go there rent a bike and do it! you won't be sorry. Years ago when I was in the US Army I got that chance for three days and it was the most epic, most beautiful experience. And, it would make great content LOL!

Rode Sturgis in 2000...We rode 4700 miles in 13 days. From Beaumont Texas to Sturgis and back. The riding was the best I have ever seen. The Scenery was unbelievable. Spearfish, Needles, Bear Tooth Pass, the Bad Lands Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse. Some of the most friendly people I have ever been around. All there for the same Purpose. The worst part of the ride was getting out of Texas. It was 106 in Dallas.

For those wanting to save money on lodging Both the college at Rapid City and the college at Spearfish rent out dorm rooms during the rally Last year we did the 10 day package at Black Hills State University in Spearfish The 10 day package was approximately 778.00 for a dorm room. It figured out to 79 bucks a night for two single beds (Which can be pushed together for those of us who bring our better half with us) I do realize you have walk down the hall to the bathrooms, showers and laundry room It is usually an older quieter crowd. (Also no alcohol, smoking or drugs allowed)

I own a 2021 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Low version. Te low seat is miserable on a good day. I swapped it out for the Triumph factory comfort seat. I am still flat footed. I have 28,000 miles on it. I tour on it. I toured it to Sturgis in 2012 and 2022. I have the saddle bags and a trunk. I live in Minnesota and traveled to Red Lodge in 2021 and then into Sturgis, and in 2022 I rode to Glacier National park and into Sturgis. So about 6500 miles touring. I love this bike for touring. If I keep it at about 70mph, I get 48-53mpg. 80mph, I get low to mid 40's at best. This year I had a barrel bag attached and the added back support was comfortable. The bike handles great in the twisties. If you need to go down a gravel road, no problem. If you have any questions, LMK

Oh man! I would love that road, not on a Harley so much but, on something lighter and nimble it would be amazing. The only problem is, despite it looking like a road I'd have a blast on throwing a good bike around, something ideally like my BMW S 1,000 R would be fantastic. And the problem is, that absolutely amazing scenery demands being admired, in fact I'd love to be able to walk through those tunnels, passages and amongst ALL those amazing rocky spire sections on foot too. Now I'm starting to see the attraction of this event, as well as the whole bike riding atmosphere and all sorts of awesome machines to admire too. Glad you experienced that and enjoyed it, it certainly does look like an awesome experience.

Thank you for this beautiful video, I enjoy them all! And seriously, thank you for being a great example to all riders out there by wearing gear! I’m team ATGATT and seeing you wear gear at Sturgis just made me respect you even more! Much love & safe rides 👊🏻

@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Living on the west coast of Florida, I feel ya about the heat. I recommend a cooling vest underneath a mesh/denier summer jacket. I am ATGATT, and being bathed in sweat during the summer is situation normal. But....gear is there to give us an edge if the worst happens. I went down horrifically 6 years ago, and was not ATGATT. A helmet (good), but not much else for gear. I suffered for that. Now I am truly geared up.

Holy sh*t! At 13:18 is Jeff Stanton the MX and SX champion of the early '90s! I thought Twitch might show up on a Sturgis video but sure didn't expect Stanton!

You are correct that if you go to Sturgis to actually ride, you will have a great time. The problem arises when you're not riding and have to deal with the fact that you are surrounded by people who don't actually believe in reality.

We drove from Texas to Sturgis on our Harley Tri-Glide. Spent a week there riding both paved and unpaved roads. Really liked the Needles Highway so we rode it in both directions. Great video showing the another side of the Sturgis Rally.

Definitely stop if you’re tired. I’ve been riding over 50 years. On a trip to the Texas Hill country, I was riding way too late into the night. As I rolled down a hill to a sharp corner I told myself roll the throttle back and ease through the corner. With my fatigue and unclear mind I pulled back on the throttle instead of pushing forward. At that time My weary mind told me that was a rollback. Little panicky on the corner but we made it through and then immediately picked up a hotel room.

I know I said this in the video where you bought it but I really do love your Heritage. That color looks fantastic with the blacked out chrome. I'll bet it rides nice too.

Made the trip to Sturgis 3 times, 2010, 2013, 2016, I live probably the furthers you can live from Sturgis as the crow flies, Perth Western Australia, you fly for 5 hours to Brisbane, Queensland then 14 hours to LAX in California, from there I rode to Las Vegas, then to Salt Lake City, then to Sturgis, spent the week there with a bunch of U.S. friends, good times to have, have fun.

I jumped out of my chair a little bit when you mentioned the Triumph Tiger 900 Low. I have a deposit down on the next one that comes into my local dealership, and it's also white. The Low comes with a lowered chassis and a lower seat. If you want a little taller bike you can put on a taller seat, like the optional heated seat.
