Solo Sailing 23ft Trailer Sailer Sunshine Coast to The Whitsundays PART 1

On March 2nd 2024 I set off on a single handed adventure on my 23ft Trailer Sailer 'Summer Wine'. I left Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast heading North to the Whitsundays, QLD, Australia. I decided to throw together a few of the videos I took to share the journey. Please keep in mind I am no professional behind the camera. A KZbinr by the name of Simon Carter who has done this trip multiple times was a big inspiration and now having completed the trip myself, I take my hat off to him. Part 1 is from Mooloolaba to Hervey Bay.

Awesome stuff James, Summer Wine was the boat my dad built, and i grew up on in the 80's/90's, we spent 4 months in the Whitsunday's sailing around back in '88, great memories! Enjoy the trip, we will watch with interest!

@@JessAdsErickson She is a lovely boat and is built very well! Nice to hear some of the history behind her. 4 months would have been amazing. By the time I got up to the Whitsundays I was only able to spend a couple of weeks before needing to head off. I hope to treat Summer Wine to more adventures like this.

Hi James. I followed Simon's adventures and looking forward to yours. I am pretty obsessed with tillerpilots. How are you keeping the battery charged up with so much motoring? gary

@@garymalm Hi Gary, thanks for the support. I ended up having issues with my Raymarine St1000. Turned out the mounting point the previous owners had installed was too far forward. This is in later episodes. My only source of charge for my battery was through a fixed solar panel and when at anchor or motoring I would put the solar blanket out. I neglected to observe how much juice my in built fridge would draw with it running 24/7. I ran out of power multiple times due to this. All part of the learning curve and will improve for next time!

Why just a gib? You can NEVER get upwind that way. I would NEVER do it that way. You LIMIT yourself. Being prepared is better. Just saying.
