We are closing on a Endeavor 40 cc in the next week or so and I will be solo sailing it from CT to Bittersweet boat yard in South Bristol in a few weeks after closing.

Congratulations! That will one comfortable boat. And you’ll have a blast bringing her home. You will be right around the corner from us! Thanks for watching!

Not to minimize sailing a 38 foot boat solo… every PROPERLY setup sailboat is able to be single handed. It’s the docking that will get most people into trouble, most approach during the wrong wind conditions or just plain approach too fast. In the marina I am currently in, I watched a guy single hand a 65 foot catamaran and he backed it into the dock like it was on rails going into the slip. The wind was zero so he wasn’t fighting that. Either learn your boat’s limits or be prepared to be embarrassed every single time you dock it. Sailboats react horribly to wind other than that make them go, they get pushed around like a rag doll any other time, either learn to counter or have people who can help you all the time.

Totally agree. This was one of my first solo sails on a 38. Easy as pie. And the solo aspect is fantastic. So it’s almost more about being alone, vs sailing the boat alone. But, you’re right. It can be easily done if you know what you’re doing! Thanks for watching and for the comments!

Was this back in June? I am guessing that because of no lobster gear. I was out Thursday (July 6) on the Great Harbor of Mount Desert Island and the gear was thick in some areas and present every where - . kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJXJioihbZiInqM ). Looks like a nice day for a sail. By the way, single handing gets easier. I sail with my wife, but she is now a passenger so I am always single handing my Allied 36.

Hi Todd! Yep, it was a couple of weeks ago. We’ve moved the boat to Rockland now. Love going solo. Just had a great solo adventure out to Vinalhaven and back the other day. Hope this weather improves…

@@boatfools I hope it improves too. So far 2023 is the worst season in 28 years for me as far as boat use goes. We have been out a total of three times. The next few days don't look good though.

Just curious…. Why weren’t you clipped-in to a lifeline? On any day Edsel Murphy can show up…. Maybe your wife has double indemnity??

It’s a fair question. I figured I’d have a better chance of hauling myself into the dinghy than back onto the boat, especially at 6+ knots. When I was under way, I never left the cockpit area. With the exception of that one storm cloud the forecast was good/clear. Had things gotten dicey, I would have slapped on a harness and clipped in. And now that you mention it, I recall my wife mentioning something about upping my insurance!
