Great comparison! I’m thinking the mesa xl will be perfect for camping when it’s hot. Have the ambiance and cooking ability of a campfire, but without all the unneeded heat. Also just need small wood or a bag of pellets. As a fellow KZbinr, I really like your delivery. Clear communication, no unnecessary craziness, and simple set up.

This was great. I bought 2 XL's for $150 at Costco. I only needed one for the porch and I could have gotten the campfire for $129 at tractor supply but thanks to your comparison; my math says I get an extra solo to add to my EDC in my Jeep for $20 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Thanks Brotha.

What a great review. It almost looks like the newer Mesas do not come with the pellet adapter insert but rather are built similarly to the Mesa XLs which have the pellet adapter integrated with the stove.

Torch uses too much propane to start the pellets.

Simple, the campfire is made for cooking. The Mesa is made for ascetics. They each do their designed task well, but don’t crossover very well.

I’d you had to only pick one between the campfire and the XL, what would you pick and why? I’m looking to pick one for small fires out while camping. I have a cooking stove, however wouldn’t be against using the solo for a meal.

That depends on how you are camping. If you are a backpacker then use the Mesa. If you are car camping then use the XL. If you want to use either for some type of cooking you can get the heat deflector as a surface.

Agreed. Just received the smaller Mesa,it’s nothing fancy. Same size and quality as the £15 camping stoves which at least come with a pot holder rim and methanol burning cup.
