Showcase by @fnm04, thanks man :)
To be verified by @Destroyer0912 my New Zealand goat 💪
ALSO FYI the cutscene + gameplay before it you see at the start is like nullscapes, once you pass it once it won't play again and u can skip once you pass the gameplay (also the last dash or ur supposed to hold through the part)
Finally finished a new level again!! This one was a lot more planned out than any of my other ones, as I had a very clear goal in mind right from the start and I managed somehow to finish it? I’ve never really done this before, Tuapeka was kind of a fluke and I just kinda went with whatever came to mind when I was building it.
Why pick a dumbass name like silent oppenheimer?? The reason for the name was because I saw this tweet from 2023 about how a level name called “silent oppenheimer’ would be the rawest name ever and as soon as I saw that tweet I started making a layout LMAO. Didn’t get far at all, finished maybe 40 seconds of unstructured gameplay then kinda didn’t touch it again, until my dumbass thought it was finally time to try and learn decoration the 2.2 editor.
[This part will have spoilers for made in abyss movie and season 1, so if u wanna watch don’t read the next paragraph]
I’m like one of the biggest made in abyss fans ever right, like the show is downright a work of art and I’ve been encapsulated by it ever since I saw it back in 2021. I decided to make the level based on the movie “dawn of the deep soul”, since the song I chose was from that movie. I ended up making a laser effect like Reg's incinerator, and after using tons of animated objects and particles I made the coolest thing I had ever made in the editor. You can actually see it all around the level, I’ve used it for about 5 different instances from the very first jump to right at the end, which goes to show just how much that silly laser influenced the level’s direction.
After making the laser, I ended up finishing the layout which was in pretty rough shape since it was pretty much going to be an impossible level. I tried my luck by asking New Zealand’s best player destroyer if he’d be interested in verifying this level if it was possible, and for some reason he said yes LOL. He fixed up many parts of the layout, made it much more fun (and possible) to play and it started to feel like an actual layout. From here, we kept passing the level between each other from me decorating parts and him making changes to the gameplay, oftentimes giving me advice for the deco and changes I could make.
Over the course of 8 months (yikes), the level slowly became more and more complete as I slowly chipped away at the level. In total, 178.96 hours went into this level, though that could be up to much more with all the attempts from myself and the destroyer as well as the playtesters. Just for reference, Tuapeka took 50 hours total, so this is easily my biggest project yet and there will not ever be another one like this, I’m going to university next year and am so glad I could get this off my plate, and extremely proud of the result, which doesn’t happen often.
I wanna say a massive thanks to the bro destroyer for everything he's done w this level, cause with it starting out as a stupid impossible layout which I eventually finished I reached out to him to see if he’d be down to verify it if I ever decorated it. Turns out that single handedly saved this level because without him I would’ve given up like 2 days into it bahaha. cos with how much time I was putting into the level, he put pretty much just as much time in, helping (phenomenally) with the gameplay and playing it from time to time which helped keep the motivation up heaps. He cared for the level just as much as I did, which helped keep the project from overwhelming me as it felt like it wasn’t just a one man project.
u definitely got this man, whatever difficulty nerfed or super buffed, u my goat regardless and hope it doesn’t cause u too much pain 🥲.
I Wanna say a huge thanks to so many people, with so many from the NZGD server and the Decult server, they’ve helped me immensely and I could not have done it without them :)
