I’m excited for my Japan trip in November. I’ll have some of the trip by myself (the other time with a friend who lives there). I agree with you about making sure to join certain tours like a walking food tour, etc. When I joined such tours in France, where I traveled by myself, i think that’s when it was most enjoyable.

Did you happen to visit Monkey Mountain in Kyoto? When I was there, there was a German film crew filming the Monkeys, they were horrified when the Monkeys snatched the food out of their hand.

@@blondwayfarer Yes Japan might be a small Country but it needs many trips to experience it's diversity, it's festivals, local delicacies that are usually different from one prefecture to another, but yes the Monkeys are incredibly cheeky but one little word of warning, as you're climbing Monkey Mountain (more like hiking really) there'll be Monkeys there free and wild, sitting on fences and rocks etc, never look them directly in the eye as you're walking past them, it could spook them and they can possibly attack you, just look straight but be aware on the corner of your eye.....it's not common that they attack but looking directly can threaten them as they are wild creatures after all, not your tame animals in a zoo. In Nara, deer roam freely in the park, very friendly to humans and you can get up real close to them. Nara was the fists Capitol of Japan more than 1,000 yrs ago before Kyoto, they have a big Buddha statues with 1200 buddha statues in different poses.

Everyone says to NOT bring a big suitcase. Is this true? Surely it’s better to have one to bring back all the things you buy

@@CodingAbroad the only issue is that you will have to reserve luggage space on the bullet train. I actually brought a carry-on bag and then a duffel bag for all my souvenirs and did fine (you can just store them above your seat)! You can also have your luggage forwarded, but I did not use this service.

@@CodingAbroad yes!!! 🧳 Look up luggage shipping services about having your luggage forwarded. You will need to take a small day bag with you because it could take a day for your luggage to catch up. 😊
