Brian you’re gonna go down in history as one of the great KZbin guitar teachers
@matinee3104 ай бұрын
I subscribed to his website which has much more detail…i personally have found him to be one of the best teachers on KZbin! I’ve bought lessons from Steve Stein, Marty, and Justin, but Brian offers the best value for money. More importantly, he keeps things simple and consistently explains the origins of what he teaches, in terms of scale origin Triad origin…(which I find is lacking and making it a longer process of learning ) in other instructors teachings.

The best guitar lesson I've ever taken! You're really on the right track, keep it up and try experimenting with other strings like the B or G. Your approach is fabulous, my friend. I can't wait to learn more from you.

A friend of mine gave me the same suggestion a couple of years ago. After a while I started to involve a second string (one of the adjacent ones). Then I practiced with two arbitrary strings. In a couple of months I was able to improvise decent solos with 3 arbitrary strings by ear. THIS video is one of the few guitar lessons that you'll ever need. Just make sure to practice on different genres, tempos and keys. Playing be ear is so satisfying

This was a very enlightening video. Now I Do have more than just this 1 String, and I am going to Pretend the Other 5 Strings Broke like My High E- Did twice in 1 week. Yep I need to master how to Play this 1 String without breaking it before I become Broke Buying Strings. I just finished learning the beauty of the 3NPS strings Method and Modes. It's a Aha moment of the Fret board and I am very happy I am aware of it. But learning the Pentatonic Scale on the E-String and making phrases with this one string, just carries So much MORE of what I am looking for. MUSIC And maybe, just Maybe I won't break this string anymore because I'm making music and not just playing Hard. 😅 THANK YOU

Love this concept of elevating one string and making it shine. 🌟 It does make you think further if using this process of thought what elements could be added using just 2 strings other than double stops and 3 strings other than triads using these parameters. The creativity of playing one string at a time with depth.

Great "ear" lesson, Brian. The Doors used this technique a lot. Some of their most melodic songs were when Robby Krieger was pounding away on one string. Keep up the wonderful work.

Thank you very much! Immensely useful and enjoyable! I am more of a classical guitar guy (still learning), which means I play more vertical than horizontal. I always wanted to understand rock/blues guitar better. This gave me a very good and logical intro, not only with the chords and progressions but also with the fingering techniques. And how to createv the «feel» of blues! Thanks!

Thanks! Great lesson as always and really helpful for encouraging focusing lead on a melody vs. my most common rut of being more focused on scale patterns and licks etc only to realize when listening to it (if recorded) and hearing how it’s not at all melodic and sounds like 10 times more notes than should jammed in there unnaturally

Thanks so much that was such a helpful lesson. I’ve always wanted to be able to mix playing chords and ‘fill in’ soloing but I get flustered after playing a chord as to how to do it, and after watching I’ve got so much better at just being able to pluck the open E or A string once and then do a little one string solo run to follow it in a call and response fashion, which livens up my accompaniment to songs. Maybe for future lessons you could do more of this call and response style? So if you play say a D a chord what’s a little two bar solo run you could do after it to link into the next Em chord etc.

I'm wondering if this would be a good exercise to learn notes on the fretboard. Starting with the E, then B, then G... Meaning that if you concentrate on one string at a time & playing to the backing track, it seems a great way to learn the notes of the pentatonic on each string while also learning the box patterns. Thanks again, Brian, for another great & thought provoking lesson!

Know it all Big Shot Dave here- When I read the title to this weeks lesson, I thought to myself, Huh? Soloing on just one string? Is this some sort of goofy gimmick? using just one string? I'm not going to solo using just one string! I skipped playing the lesson several times, and finally, Saturday, I noticed this lesson again, and I thought, What the Hey,just listen to it and be done with it. So I click on the lesson. I had to start laughing about half way through the Demo example! Hey! That sounds darn good! And he's only using one string? Oh, I get it, use the one string to pick out the melody much like using a piano. Don't get caught up with multiple strings, which I do all the time! I'm embarrassed to say, give Dave too many strings and Dave attempts to do too much or I get lost attempting to play what I hear in my mind. either way, there's a Wicked Train Wreck by the time Big Shot Dave is done. So, I really enjoyed this particular lesson. It forced me to keep it simple. Pick out the melody, just like I am singing, and then add the fancy bends and timing and extra strings as the melody becomes more mature or finished . One of those Smack myself in the Forehead DUH! Moments. A great lesson for me, and to think I almost threw it away. yes, there are times when I am indeed an idiot. Just ask my wife.

I'm confused ; how do you get 12 notes ? E to E is 12 frets but it's also an octave - 8 notes so there is E F G A B C D E, are you counting the sharps ? What am I missing ?? Thanks for the great videos.

Couple comments on the idea of 12 notes: There is an excellent book about how it came to be that we only have 12 notes, and how the establishment fought against any departure from the 12: Ted Gioya, Music, a Subversive History. But what about the pitch between G and G#, is that a note?
