Solo Wild Camping on Whernside Tarns in the Yorkshire Dales | The Pennines |Tarnside on Whernside

Seeking solitude I hike up Whernside in the Yorkshire Dales for a wild camping adventure next to a picturesque tarn.
Sunny skies and a great forecast promised a great night enjoyed out of the tent taking in the views of the Yorkshire Dales countryside "God's Own Country".
I have been up Whernside several times before, but this time I had found a new route after looking for the best place to leave the car, this route cut out a large slog of the walk and went straight up the back of the peak, this was welcome with the weather on the day which at times was stifling.
It was also a long time since I have hiked into camp with most of my recent trips being on the canoe, so it was a nice change.

@@milesfromanywhere. I’d originally planned to camp at the summit, only for looking for better parking places than by the viaduct I found a good parking spot a new route up the back, and no one about down by the tarns, the summit was heaving till late

Hey thank you for watching. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it anywhere…but, that’s the karrimor sabre 45 pack with karrimor plce side pockets, I believe other plce side pockets fit it . I’d have to check but I think with side pockets it takes it to about 70 ltr

@@foresteroutdoors yeah I saw the logo on the buckle about five seconds after I asked the question! Has it got a frame? I've got an Berghaus Vulcan at the minute that's seen better days, I think the Karrimor might be the way to go - and it will take the same side pouches. Cheers

Hi thanks for watching, I parked on Thornton lane, there is a track from the back, it isn’t marked on OS as a public footpath but it is a track as you can see in the video. Took about 1.5 hours to get to the tarns from here. A lot shorter than walking via the viaduct route.
