November is the rainiest month in the Olympic Peninsula, so I lucked out with only a couple inches of precipitation. Any way you shake it, it’s not really camping weather this time of year, but I’m a stubborn man and pitched a tent for a week in the woods anyway. On the bright side, I had my pick of campsites and was able to choose one that seemed like it wouldn’t flood if (when) the heavens opened up.
Over the course of the week, I got some great photo sessions in on the coast, in the forest, and up in the mountains. I’ve now spent close to 50 days photographing for this Olympic project and am loving the direction that it’s evolving in. The goal is for this to become a book, but we’re still a handful of years away from that. Many, many trails left to hike before I’ll feel like I’ve gotten to know the Peninsula and photographed it thoroughly.

Thanks for the nice video. I was born and raised on the Oly Pen and have learned a lot about landscape photography from you when I go back for visits. My main photography for the last few years has been wildlife since I live in Kenya now and a National part is a short drive away. Your videos about landscape help me have more meaning in shooting animals since background and light are so important. Thanks again for the enjoyable content.

1.5 Hour video in a gorgeous place with lots of photography and camping? Heck yea! You spoil us. I really enjoyed this. And what a great way to really get to know the details of a place. Full immersion. I think your book idea is also great. I already know two people who I should buy it for 😄

Glad you liked it! A long video like this definitely won't be for everyone, but happy to see that some people are enjoying it!

I love the Olympic National Park but will likely never get there during this time of year, so thanks for taking us on your wonderful trip! Great variety of images! We had planned a trip to Hurricane Ridge just before the fire. Glad to see it is reopening.

What a great adventure! Thanks for taking us along. I would recommend the 70-200 F4 MACRO G OSS II in your backpack for those lichen shots. It is super sharp, with a 0.5x Macro, at all focal lengths and accepts the teleconverters for up to 1x magnification on a full frame sensor.

Nice! Thank you for the tour of the Hoh rainforest! I recently learned about that place by seeing a magical photo from Blake Randall (Heart of the Hoh) -- Definitely want to check it out in the next few months, so thanks for the preview!

There was a Chinese restaurant that I enjoyed the last time I was in Forks. Nice, comfort food. I hope it's still there.

This is crazy good man!! I can't understand how you have such a beautiful eye for compositions. You inspire me to get out and shoot! After watching all your videos I am contemplating on switching to a Sony A7R3. Does it have too much difference in color science with the A7R4 you are shooting with?

Thanks! Honestly not sure. I went from the a7R II right to the IV and haven't ever tried the III. That said, I did notice a decent jump in color quality going to the a7RIV.

@@BrianLackey ok I’m not crazy then because I seem to like the colors of the a7riv much more for some reason. They seem more warm and vibrant than the rii and riii that have the same sensor. Thank you for your reply and I’m waiting for you next video!
