Get a lot of questions and some think I'm lying about the temperature (no, I never have). If the title says -30, it should go without saying that that's the LOW for the trip...the temp fluctuates, of course. So I made a video for the top 11 FAQs I get about winter camping: *1) If it's so cold, why can't you see your breath?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *2) If it's so cold, why is there slush on the lake?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *3) Why aren't you melting snow for water?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *4) What is the temp inside the tent?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *5) Why winter camp at all?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *6) Why aren't you wearing snowshoes?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *7) How do you poop when it's that cold?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *8) Aren't you worried about carbon monoxide from the stove?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *9) Aren't you afraid of animals attacking you? Where's your gun?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq88 *10) How you you power your devices?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 *11) Why don't you use a floor?* kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5DRo3qLqcprmq8 Hope it helps clear some things up.

-30 up North in winter? Why would anyone think that? I've been in -40 running the Trans Can on many occasions. Slush on the lake, poop when cold, all question from people below the 45th.

Canadian have to have good Outdoor stoves cookers. Heaters..the way that PM is taxing Canadians They might ALL BE LIVING in the woods.. till he taxes the cookers at exorbitant prices because the trees are Canadian property.. FJB from the USA..and FJT.. above ... BTW.. I had to pause the vid to see the temp yours says -20* but NO F/ Celsius.. ! And that draft baffler looked exceptional especially looking at heat/flame blowing straight up at 16:40 ans second view 3rd looked like a catalyst converter slowing it down.. MORE ON YOUR TXT Device!! USA has OnSpot..and another ..I actually think I will get that for This purpose..!! 3 weeks in AK bear hunting WAS amazing, NO AM/ FM Static..No Signal I know a SSW Portable is also NOW required. Or Sat ph but that's expensive What was your tent temperature? Like the stove- who is it. ? How much. WITHOUT a doubt.. a Shotgun/ survival rifle. 22 S/L/ LR is required Thanks. Very interesting.

Keep in mind that I've only used it for a couple weeks, that being said, so far so good kzbin.infoUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM . Using it at 8 ft. by 8ft. deer blind that is insulated. I have to keep the door cracked for it to get enough air to burn, but that is very likely the wood I've used. Much better quality than I expected for the price. Now if I can just take it easy in the beginning it won't be 90 degrees in my blind. All in all it seems like a keeper.

Wolves and lynx tracks can be told apart easiest by claw indents. If there are claws, it's a wolf, if there aren't, it's a lynx. A little harder way is by overall shape, lynx are somewhat circular, wolves have an almost triangle shape toe to pad. Tracks looked to me like lynx tracks. Loved the video. Miss my old camping days, way too old for it now.

A heads up. Having water between the pot and hot surface will result in flash steam that will erode the surface and result in increased rusting of the stainless. Always wipe the pot bottom to reduce this, its almost impossible to make the pot completely dry

Sometimes here in Wyoming during the winters I love to camp up in the local mountain. Last winter it was -35F at one point. Very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. However it's also very rewarding once you are done. Mr. Heater Buddy is what I used. Keep a bottle of propane in your sleeping bag for when it gets too cold you the gas still works fine. Also please make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm. Will save your life. For extra safety if you live in bear country think of something to protect yourself with. Most predators would love a good meal in the middle of winter so don't become one.

Bought the Woodlands X-Large stove from Boreal Outdoor Innovations for my 20' Avalon Bell tent. I was looking for a quality built stove that was made in Canada or the USA. I've been winter camping for over 25 years and I know what works and doesn't. This is the best stove that I have ever used, period. Quality is very impressive. That baffle is a game changer. Dealing with Luigi was easy and efficient, he's a very knowledgeable person. Emails were prompt. Yes it's an expensive stove but it will last you a life time. Oh btw, that door is like a vault! Super heavy duty and massive.

Can never have enough stoves and that one is a beaut! Couldn't get a good look at the tracks but if they had claw holes then canine, if none then feline. :) I love doing the trailcam thing too! The great thing about doing it in winter, you can see where the critters are travelling and set up in that area. Look forward to seeing you and Erin back at the hot tent and the igloo build! " no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes." Scandinavian saying. Growing up in Detroit, some friends and decided it was much more convenient to camp in the winter, no mosquitoes, no need for tents, which always get wet and of course no crowds. Camped in Northern Michigan at -25, biggest consideration was keeping the beer from freezing. Proper sleeping bag is a must.

Tracks are in a diagonal pattern, with direct register, as both wolves and lynx tracks often are. The paw print, however, is quite round and there is a leading toe. These are cat characteristics. The interdigital space is more of a "C" shape, compared to the “X” shape of a wolf. If you imagine the tracks in the snow from the other direction, then you can see the shape of an ice cream cone. Again, pointing toward lynx. The track width of about 10 cm and the straddle width of about 20 cm, as estimated by comparing to the width of the snowshoe, are reasonable for lynx tracks.

I have heard of people who work for one of the Canadian provences ministries (Quebec, maybe?) who have the job of bringing dead lakes back to life. Lakes that have been killed by lumbering especially, where the sunken trees use up all the nutrients (I'm quite ignorant here) and so on. They do their own form of the Star Trek style terraforming, starting with dredging, filtering, oxygenating, replanting etc. Takes years, but what an amazing line of work, and satisfying.

I did a 2 night trip like this into the interior of BC about a month ago with my dog. Used a pulk to transport my Luxe 8P tipi, Winnerwel Nomad stove, and all my gear up a 200meter hill. Took 4 trips and took me a while to set up while keeping a fire going to keep the dog and I warm in -18C. I was completely exhausted the first night, didn't get to bed until 1:30. Don't know how you keep warm sleeping on the floor like that at -26, I had to use my cot. You really feel a difference getting up a little in the tent, in my opinion. Lucky to have great weather.

Getting up a little help. But if you do it right, then it's ok to be on the ground. The best is this: 1st layer: Fir tree branches 2nd layer: One of those cheap blue mats 3rd layer: inflatable mattress (some are insulted) 4th layer: another blue mat or a Thermarest ridgerest 5th layer: a thin space blanket 6th: sleeping bag The first cheap blue mat is to protect your mattress from being punctured y the branches. The 2nd one is to avoid losing heat by warming up the air in the mattress continuously All of that is very light and will make a big difference!
