Thank you Richard. I subscribed several years ago because you were so honest in your videos. I shall be 73 next spring and for my sins still have to work. Since the age of 15 have ridden motorcycles with a tent, and some gear. To park, pitch up, sort out the gubbins, cook dinner with a glass or two of fav tipple then turn in for a peaceful nights sleep is my go to way of reset. Thanks for your videos and blethers, like button clicked, seasons greetings ! Richard Indoors 👍

This is the reason I adore being out in the woods or on the river. It is the greatest mental health clear out and reset you can do for free! Just taking my stove, whether it's a small gas stove like this, or a twig stove or a meths burner, the very act of setting up a small space to sit comfortably, boiling some water and having a brew is so powerful. Even taking a sandwich with you and a couple of biscuits. Just enjoying the solitude and being occupied with a few basic items of kit and having that time alone....wonderful. The simplest things are so very often the most precious. Thanks for this. Keep on finding time and enjoying that very special space. 😊

Hi Richard, long time subscriber and proud owner of your OG stove. Also a busy a mind, without my notebook I’d be lost. The brain only has so much space for ‘thinking’ or in my case ‘procrastinating’ before it starts to shut down in the form of anxiety or ‘burn out’. My notebook remembers things so I don’t have to, each night I write what I NEED to do for the following day, from shopping lists to reminders, and these tasks roll over to the next day if I don’t get the opportunity to complete them. So long as it’s written down, my brain is free to forget tasks!

Very good Richard; who else creates clean healthy exercise just making lunch. Not to mention the therapeutic mental well-being effect that is far cheaper than laying on a couch talking to an unhappy therapist. I could also see visions of your pretty wee cocker spaniel tearing around that very patch of woods.

What is this life, if full of care, we have no time to stand and stare springs to mind 😊 The modern world fills our brains with information every second of every minute of every hour of every day. There is only so much we can take in and process in any given moment, and, just like computers, it gets to the point where our brain crashes and we need to press Control Alt Delete and reset. Thanks for sharing your vulnerability and for being such an earnest and decent chap (and a pleasure to watch!). Keep resetting! 🙏🏻 🎅🏻

Richard everyone needs time out for themselves. I am glad you took a little time just for you. I love my camping but when life gets too busy I sometimes just go to the local kids playground and watch kids enjoying themselves or even just go out into my backyard and watch the birds or even all the little critters, ants and other bugs, just going about their little lives. Yes I know it may sound pathetic but it brings a smile to my face and I am in my happy place again. My grandchildren are definitely another thing that brings me so much joy. Enjoy your little grandson, they grow so fast. It's hot here in Australia at the moment so sadly I won't want to be outside much. 😊

I understand the cluttered mind!! I lost my son on the 2nd..and my mind is chaos!!!!😢 I do not have the ability to get out to the forest😢 i bought an 8x9 tent..set it up in my yard...over a year ago..i have a camp chair and table...camping gear and stoves....i go out and make coffee..cook a meal..pretend im camping far away from the life problems..some days it a quick 30 minutes some days 3..4 hours...my pack of little dogs are always in the tent under my chair. I used to have that exact table but it vanished a couple years back. I find great peace in my tent...even if my body has to stay in my yard...my mind wanders the forests...your pasta sounds wonderful....eaten in a peaceful forest...nothing better...hoping soon a bushcraft day or more will be in the cards next year. HERES WISHING YOU THE MERRIEST BEST CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR..AND GENUINE PEACE🎉

I have a never still mind, things whirr around in there all the time. Knitting something complicated helps as I need all my concentration to ensure there are no mistakes. I also like to take my two rescue dogs out for a walk , the elder one likes a really good snuffle around, so that makes me slow down and actually see things. I never thought I would enjoy walking so slowly, but it has made me so much more appreciative.

Merry Christmas Richard. Nice little video and so true. 3-5am can be a horrendous time for runaway head and I go for my kindle which allows me to divert the head without wakening the missus. It was back during the covid I rediscovered the fun of outside cooking (thanks Dad) and I started in the back garden and then advanced to the local parks because they had picnic tables with the metal grates to set disposable barbecues on which meant no one could say, “why are you doing that there?” Moved from that to days in local public access forests, bought more gear and just spent hours playing with it. Eventually I spent the night there. I am fortunate to be able to afford the more expensive gear and I admit to being a bit of a gear junkie, but to be honest the nice kit adds very little to the pleasure that I first enjoyed when I did it with just the basics nicked out of the kitchen.
