Nice helpful video, but u don't need an axle stand tho, simply pull the car along until u hitch up, also rolling the towed car up on 2blocks of wood will give u more room underneath to attach a frame legs to wishbones or track control arms, finally , the strip of metal he attached MUST be fitted centrally

the legalities about towing with these have already been covered by other people in comments, brakes on towed vehicle have to work, train weight, A frames have to be certified etc. what hasn't been said the maximum speed with these is 20 mph and 40 mph on the motorway.

For transporting, yes it must be braked if over 750kg, but I've never read any speed limit other than that for towing a trailer in any of my accident and breakdown training. For recovery of a disabled vehicle, then there is an exemption from the braked weight limit, as long as the towed vehicle is going from point of breakdown to the customer's home address, a place of repair or disposal. Whilst technically, there is no limit on distance, although there is a recommended 20 mile maximum distance.

don't need a second driver, just use a trailer board. the legalities, to use an A frame for towing a legal car (taxed and MOT'd) from a dangerous place to a safe place. Unless the law has changed! That was the situation when the video was made. hope that helps...

As said: Due to EU rules you can only tow an unbraked trailer of 750 kilos regardless of the manufacturer's 'book' recommendation. Also "ON TOW" is not legal as the trailer board has to still show the index of the towing vehicle. Fortunately the unbraked weight of the trailer can be exceed legally (unless it's over the manufacturer's specifications) if the towed vehicle has broken down and is being towed to a 'nearby' repair facility. These 'A' frames can be obtained from a variety of sources if you Google for them. I have one to tow a tiny car behind my motor home so I'm still fully mobile when camping in it. Mine is rated to 2500 kilos, but the little car is nowhere near that. At least in theory you can tow more weight with one if you add an electrical braking system to the towed car. All you need is the correct kit or make one from a couple relays, a solenoid and an electrical vacuum pump.

Have you had any issue with Police in UK or abroad? An frames/Dolly is meant only for use towing brokendown vehicle/Emergency/Recovery? If used as a "trailer", as I guess your using it, it should have a full set of lights, lightboard or vehicle lights synchronised with motorhome. It is illegal to tow a vehicle in France and a number of other EU countries.

The real towing weights that a vehicle can handle are seldom published thanks to EU legislation. Take the classic Range Rover for example. If one gets a really old Haynes Manual the figures are quite interesting as with an unbraked trailer off-road it can tow two tonnes. On-road the figure is 750 kilos thanks to the EU! The really interesting figure is "emergency use short distance low speed". From memory the towing capacity is about eight tonnes! Four wheel drives that cannot be used in 4WD on tarmac are IMHO not proper four wheel drives. Cars with full-time 4WD are the best but the cost is rather high.

WARNING: If a car is on an A frame it is legally then a trailer. If a trailer has brakes fitted (an a car certainly does) then they legally must work. This set up legally requires a braking system and is illegal as shown in this video.

Look in the handbook for the vehicle you are using to tow. it will say for example towing limit 750kg unbraked 1200kg braked. stick to those guides and happy days cos your legal. just dont try towing a transit van with a mini.lol

Not everyone is running a recovery business and isn't the same as towing cars around the country on A frames. And for clarification it is a 100km radius from base of operations that they can be used before they become out of scope on a recovery. But once again I said "toatally legal for a recovery".
