Justin, how long did it take you to learn that first full riff at the beginning of the song? It would be really useful for me to know that since it is proving a nightmare for me and I can see it taking me weeks if not months to get it right and up to speed. Thanks.

There seems to be a mistake in the tab in section 4, when going to the E. It sounds and looks as though strings 1 through 4 should be played, not just 2 through 4. But still a great lesson and much appreciated.

Justin! An interesting piece of trivia for you(or not as the case may be). A relative of mine lives in the cottage in Bath, once owned by Peter Gabriel where he wrote this song. The cottage looks towards Salisbury Hill.

the riff can also be achieved by dropping little finger in b string fret 5 ( relative to capo) been playing it for years this way and is sometimes easier than bending first finger forward to reveal thinnest string

I think it’s more likely to be the open e on the recording; you can hear the e note continue ringing as the d is played. Fairly close and a bit easier your way though.

Justin, you unravel the mysteries of life/music. Then you said Solsbury Hill's in 7/4 a huge light went on for me. That's what keeps the song rolling. Then you explain the 3 - 4 and 4 - 3 counting groups which is the secret sauce. My other revelation came from Grateful Dead's Estimated Prophet, in 7/4, thanks to Michael Palmisano. Now I have another song to practice the 7/4 count. Thank you.

Justin , THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AMAZING TUTORIAL !!!!! I've wanted to be capable of playing this song on my 12-string guitar for years. GREAT , GREAT TEACHING !!!!

I couldn't get travis picking for the longest time. Then one day I saw a video of Lindsey Buckingham playing "Landslide" live, and suddenly I understood how I needed to coordinate my thumb and fingers, and within an hour I could travis pick like I had been doing it for months. I still can't grasp clawhammer banjo though.

Was on about a two hour trip home last night and not exactly certain why but this song popped into my head and listened to the live version from PG as well as the recorded version and even some covers of it. Within a few minutes I was right back to listening to Justin give his tutorial. lol! Of course I couldnt even watch the video much less practice it.. but I love listening to how Justin lays it out! My moment of venting here.... I used to be so good at finger picking as a kid when I was taking lessons after lessons after lessons.. 43yo now and have had some good strides getting back into playing here and there! .. at any rate.. great video and once again JG has captured my attention yet again! :)

For people who struggle with the half barred A major in section 1: You can also fully barre all the strings down from the D string and play the fifth fret on the B string with your pinky instead of the open high E string, at least that was easier for me.
