GREAT, this kind of videos aren't very common, and we are thankfull for that! i have a question... Do you know this exact same "mod" for the E21 cluster? (rpm gauge is electronic too, only velocimeter it is analog) i need to know this because i have an M20B25 6 cyl swap on a 4cyl rpm cluster and the rpm readings are wrong like your first coding plug in the video. Hi, I don't have any experience with e21, but I have a doubt that it will fit. Even e30 early edition (up to '86) instrument cluster is different and this board doesn't fit... I believe there are some other ways to adjust readings.

Will this also fix the fuel reading. I’ve swapped a Motometer (which is believe was from a 6 cylinder) i to my 1991 318i 4 cylinder which had a VDO cluster. Now my RPM read lower and fuel gauge only goes to 1/2 when fully filled up. Thank you

Hi, you have to use fuel gauge from 4 cyl cluster, they are different. Coding plug is for revs, econometer and service interval calculations. the rest gauges are not related to the coding plug.

Will this work for swapping from a 5k tach to a 7k tack? I've got an 86 325es (m20b27) that I swapped an 87 325i (m20b25) engine into. I have an 89 325i cluster with a 7k tach that I know is working, but the tach doesn't work if I swap the cluster into the 325es.

is coding plug installed into 325i cluster? And the second question - does 325es cluster give any rev readings if you install it with m20b25 swap?

@@gediminasramanauskas5466 There is a coding plug on the 325i cluster, I don't think there is one on the 325es cluster. The "es" cluster seems to be fully working and providing rev reading, just with the 5k tach. If I swap in the entire "i" cluster the tach doesn't work, and the tachs are different so I can't put the 7k tach into the "es" cluster.

Hey I have a 325 E with an M50 from a 95 525, i had the original rpms that read from 1-5 but a friend gave me his cluster from a 325is, my car now shows it idles at 1k rpms but I don’t think it’s actually idling at that. Which car would I be able to get that chip from?

Hi, you need any chip from 6 cylinder e30 which comes with 7k rev counter gauge. There were a few part numbers for a chip. One of them is 1 381 683. Hi my e30 is idling around 1000 rpm, It was originally a 320i but I have changed the engine to a 2.5, and I belive the cluster that I have is off a 320i. is it possible that I need a 325i chip for my cluster ? I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to find the cause of the high idle, I really hope this is it lol Cheers, Mark.

Hi, 320 chip and 325 chip will give the same rev readings as they both are 6 cyls engines. there must be some other issue

@@burakolgun4193 The first thing to check if your cluster doesn't work are Fuses No. 10, 12 and 21. After engine swap - be sure that the rpm wire is connected to the instrument cluster. And, of course, without the Coding plug you won't be able to read RPM, Fuel economy, and Service Interval (LED's). More details here: facebook.com/GE30Pro
