You sir, are a goddamned legend for this. Yes I did spend what felt like an eternity hunting down and finding a series one SI board (my car came without one entirely) but this saved me from doing my own resto work on it and fixed my temp gauge. Truly, thank you and thank god I found your video while looking for reference images to restore from.

Great video. You can also cut and bend a paper clip and use it to jumper between those two slots. A paper clip seemed to be the perfect size and the slot grabbed it tightly as if it were a pin. Worked perfectly.

It works, just did it now. And now the rev tacho does not wander up and down slightly like it always did previously. So on the Series 1 E30, the only thing the SI board does is control the service lights? Jeez I wish I knew that a few years back, when I spent a lot of time having my SI board re-soldered and repaired, got new batteries e.t.c - and the service light globes had already been removed on my car anyway! So I could have just bypassed it. Last week the rev and temp gauges both started jumping around then going dead, then alive again. Using this trick to bypass the SI board fixed it. Edit : I did lose my park brake light. It does not even come on when turning the ignition on, like the one in this video does at 3:40. I must have knocked something...

Really good to hear Yohan! Possibly bumped something, but also the handbrake switch at the handbrake lever which activates the light can be a little dodgy I've found.

Thank you brother for this information! you are the good type KZbinr purely to help 🙏 my Si board was toast.. maybe you can help brother.. I have a bmw E30 with the same board but I have swapped the engine to a Nissan SR20 DET and I need to feed a signal to my tachometer do you know from where I can get my signal connection? Is it from the coil signal or the injector? I have no idea how to get a signal 😅
@e30repairs924 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment mate. Unfortunately i'm not sure how to assist with your SR20DET swap/rpm signal issue :( not that tech savvy. Maybe just check some forums or fb groups, i know it's not an uncommon swap so i'm sure someones sorted it.
@amivanpoederooijeniglesias872022 күн бұрын
Thanks for your reply brother!!! I got it sorted, signal from the Ecu of the sr20 to a square wave converter and back into the bmw e30 cluster. Thanks again for keeping me in mind and hope to see more videos of your to come 🙏✌️

Cool think ill do this. What motor do u have in there? Could u show me what coding plug (black T stick) do u have in there? Ur car is idling a bit high
@e30repairs93 жыл бұрын
Its a 1985 m20b23. Not sure what you mean by coding plug? I've actually got some more idle issues these days (vacuum leaks).

What does bridging the two contacts do?
@e30repairs93 жыл бұрын
The contacts are usually connected through the SI board via pins. As far as im aware they just go through the SI board without actually doing anything. By bridging the contacts, you remove the need for the SI board whilst retaining the functions of the Tacho and temperature gauge.

Going to try this. My board did the same thing as yours. Acid got on the board and messed it up.

Hope it goes well for you. The hardest part for me was soldering the wire on, it can get messy quickly if you arnt careful and jump the next pins over.

does this series 1/2 have any thing to do with the year of manufacture ?

@@e30repairs9 cool, it works. Just the temp gauge is marking a bit above. I will try to apply a resistor but I still have to figure it out how many omhs. Since my si board is completely trashed I can't get a reading. I have a fase 2 si board but I think the resistance is different.
@revenblood3 жыл бұрын
I just measure, I think the series 2 board i found 2 main resistors on the temp gauge circuit, a big one measuring 70 omhs and a small one with 1496 ohms. On the series one si board, it's so badly damage that I can't follow the tracks.
