I have to admit, I thought this was BS but after trying everything else it actually worked! I tried all sorts of combinations of USB ports, wall charger, battery in / out, SD card in / out, button presses, but this was the only thing that got my battery to charge. Amazing. And your English is fine.

Hey this actually worked for me! Amazing well done man - thank you. This also testament to how bad the Hero 3 is, that we as users have to come up with this stuff! Felt like a kick in the guts when the Hero 3+ came out - it should've just been called the "Hero 3" and then we all got a replacement to forget this piece of crap.

POWERFUL TIPS on GoPro Freezing .. 1. DO NOT TRANSFER FILES DIRECT FROM GOPRO TO PC, REMOVED MICRO SD CARD AND USED MEMORY CARD READER INSTEAD 2. PLEASE. DO NOT SWITCH ON YOUR GOPRO WHILE CHARGING..( YOU CAN JUST TURN ON YOUR GOPRO IF YOU ARE UPDATING THE LATEST FIRMWARE ) 3. IF IT FREEZES DO NOT ALWAYS DO THE HARD RESET BY REMOVING YOUR BATTERY AND INSERT IT AGAIN OVER AND OVER AGAIN, BECAUSE THE CONTACT CONNECTION ON GOPRO AND BATTERY WILL DAMAGED.. 4. FREEZING GOPRO? YOU SHOULD HAVE TO USED BATTERY POWER BANK (DO NOT CHARGE TO WALL/PC) when connected to Power bank just unplugged/plugged until it turns on, About 5 times.. (be sure your powerbank is fully charged)..

I had the same issue with a black edition brand new right out of the box. I hit the battery leads for 5 seconds, then put it back in the camera. I would not turn on, but when I placed it on the charger, it lit up (red light) and charged, which it would not do before. I think you are correct...the wifi is draining the battery even when it is off.

This video was the only way I found to get my GoPro Hero3 back to life. Thanks for the video, I thought I was dead in the water. The WiFi was the problem and I each time I used the WiFi button, it completely killed my camera. It's probably not for the faith of heart, but I turned the WiFi off and now I am enjoying my GoPro - another solution which will probably work is the GoPro Wall Charger, but I think GoPro should fix the WiFi and shut it down when the camera isn't used for a video or pix after a certain amount of time.
@scorpiorysing10 жыл бұрын
Dude, thanks. I had the same problem. The GoPro (Hero 3 Black, refurbed) wouldn't power on, no indicators whatsoever. I removed the battery and SD card, tried plugging it in to USB, still wouldn't power on. I tried holding the camera shutter button while inserting the battery then pressing the power button, still didn't work. I got out my multimeter and measured the voltage - it wouldn't register any volts, 0 volts! I then did as you suggested and cut up a USB cord, connected the red and black cables to the battery and plugged in the USB end to a computer. The voltmeter was reading a steady 3.8 volts or so. I left it charging for just a few seconds, then removed the USB end from the computer - the voltmeter now read 3.6 volts where before it was 0. Put the battery back in the computer, and now it powered on with the battery level at 1 bar. Hooked the camera up to the charger and now all is well! Thanks so much. And, BTW, your English is just fine.

Hi Trying to take the video signal out for fpv I ended up burning one of these sjcam GoPro clones. Is it fixable ? Since you opened the gopro perhaps you know a bit about the electronic inside ? Just another question. I did buy a new action cam but with full batt charge it could record only eight minutes before running out of batt. What is the expected recording time ? I am sure not only eight minutes. Tks in advance for any help

I had a full battery, used the camera. Turned off, turned on, then it completely stopped working, wouldn't turn on, wouldn't connect to the charger. I was skeptical of your video at first. But I must say... BRAVO!! I cut an old cab;e I had, connected the red and black wires to the battery as you instructed for about 30 seconds. Put battery back in camera and connected it to the cable. It charges and camera turns on again. THANK YOU!!!

Charging the battery in this way is a very very bad idea. You can easily over-volt the battery and destroy it. You bypass any sort of volt/amp regulation by doing this.
@nysnowrider11 жыл бұрын
technically the volt/amp regulation is in the USB connection. OVER CHARGING on the other hand is the issue.However since you are only putting it on for 1 min. its not an issue here. Now if you were an Idiot and didn't use the USB connection and went from the wall sockets with your power leads, that would have the effect that you stated.

I am still thinking how it is possible to sell a camera with this kind of bug/error. I have the same issue like on this video. But imagine that you go for a holiday and you cannot switch it on.. this is not the game you want to play when the friends are waiting for you on the beach. I always switch off the wifi, then the camera.. and if i do not use the camera for a while the same issue comes up again. Cannot charge cannot switch it on even if i connect it to usb but the red led is lightning.

After trying everything I've read on the net, and about to resort to taking a scapal to my go pro cable to try this. I though I would try one last attempt at turning it on by taking out the battery and ad card. Plugging the USB cable into my camera and an iPhone plug charger. I held down the power button for about 10seconds then keeping it held down I put the battery in the back, then I waited for 2-3mins. And to my amazement, the fucker turned on!!!!!!!
