this video has been incredibly helpful. My son got some speed cubes for Christmas and my daughter messed up the windmill cube immediately so I had to figure out how to solve it. (I've never solved a standard 3x3 except by taking it apart and reassembling lol) the white and yellow sides are reversed from yours which I found interesting. The logo printed on it is Chinese and according to google translate translates to "Fancy Art"

For the record you can do this like a 3x3 excluding orienting the centers when making the cross. When you solve the last 3 centers of the last layer just turn it in the wrong direction and it flips the center upside down. Then solve it in the right direction and it will solve the centers of the last layer and flip the last center you did back upright

Holy crap that trick with the alignment of the middle layer's center was just the thing I needed to avoid utter insanity trying to get my cube solved. Your beginning was very encouraging...saying it's basically a 3x3. I can do the 3x3, the mirror, fisher, and some others without any problem. So I a was happy to hear you do the Windmill...like a 3x3. Then the shock: You decided, for what reason ever, to begin with yellow instead of white. Basically there is no (mathematical) reason to start with any color, but when making tutorials, especially for beginners, it's a good idea to keep the rule to begin with white. I am just learning Fridrich, and to get color-neutral. But learning a new puzzle, starting with yellow, is too much for me now. My brain is still on top of my head, and not under my feet :-)
@daniellee560
@daniellee560 5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry that you feel that way; the algorithms I show here only work in the middle layer if you start with the yellow side, and that was how I was taught. I also always start with white on every other cube but this one, but once i learned the moves, it made no difference where I started with this one.
@tanyabaron6143
@tanyabaron6143 4 жыл бұрын
My cube seems to be reversed so these algorithms work if I use them and solve it white side up. On your cube, when you hold it yellow side up, the side pieces are short-long. Mine, when I hold it fellow side up, is long-short. So it really does make a difference! I spent ages trying to use a different set of algorithms before I realized my problem.

You still have to place the corners and orient them properly as I show in the video. Getting the white cross still leaves two more steps.

I don’t think the cube solves like a 3 by 3 towards the end. I use the j perm easy method and it never solves.

Sure, whatever works best for you. I use a beginner's method on most of my cubes, and that particular method carries over to the windmill cube for me, but I'm glad you are able to change the solve a little and make it your own!

Daniel Lee I did your method with the 4 step algorithm at the end and I’m stuck with one corner unsolved and the rest of the cube is completely solved. How do I fix?
@daniellee560
@daniellee560 4 жыл бұрын
@@Primus-kz3ri Just hold the cube with the unsolved corner in the front right, then do R', D', R, D until it is solved. The corner-orienting algorithm can work for 1, 2, 3, or all 4 corners.

it's just a 3x3 and it's one of the easiest shapeshifters out there, it's litterally just a 3x3

This is just a 3x3x3 cube where the cubelets have a novel shape. Daniel has correctly deduced that you need to care about the orientation of the centers of the middle layer pieces, and he explains how to deal with this in a very clear and simple way. But he apparently did not understand that NO other new algorithm is necessary. So his explanation about the middle layer is a little bit clumsy.

I've been using standard 3x3 methods to solve this, and I always end up with a parity on the last layer: two sides, usually green and red, are correct. Blue and orange are swapped. How can I swap them?

@@Ravenfellblade If you ALWAYS end up with a parity problem on the last layer, then somebody has sabotaged your cube.
@Ravenfellblade

@@Bob94390 That's not likely. It's more likely that I'm just missing a key step somewhere to orient this parts. I'll get it, eventually.

That shouldn't' happen with this cube if the bottom and middle layers are complete. Your cube may be a mirror to mine; some are saying that they have cubes that are mirrored and I've never solved one like that. Other than that, I don't see how you could get a parity like that. Sorry for the confusion.

As long as you keep using the r' d' r d method (don't forget the last down move each time) and only rotate the top layer when moving on to your next corner to be oriented, it should work every time. Unless the corner fell off at some point and was put back on wrong? Other than that I'm not sure.
