I bought this Lexus LX470 for a great price, but the previous owner was quoted over $2000 to fix the bouncy ride AHC problem. I have worked on these before and figured I could solve the issue for a lot less than $2000.
Here are some things to look at before you start working on it.
First do a graduation test. This will show you how healthy your globes are.
1. Put vehicle in LOW. Mark fluid level in AHC reservoir.
2. Put vehicle in HIGH.
3. Number of graduations (ticks) on the reservoir from LO to HI should be at least 7. If less, your globes are shot and can be very expensive to replace.
If you aren't moving up or down at all, you most likely have an issue with the pump under the reservoir, or an electrical issue. Also if you have any codes for your AHC system, check those.
Next to see if you have front or rear globe failure...
1. Drive over a bump slowly with your front wheels. If you feel a lot of vibration when you go over with the front, then you probably need your front replaced.
2. If you feel more of a vibration when you go over with the rear your rear need replaced.
If your rear is where the bounce comes from you may also have an issue with your rear springs. This can be fixed by replacing your rear springs or adding spacers/air bags.
Other things that go bad often are the height sensors. Usually those will throw a code. I would check each component for leaks, or any visible damage before doing anything.
