Just a little bit of history.....I,ve had several TDI powered VW/SEAT products, but way back in the late 70's early 80's I had some VWs with the old grandaddy 1.5 and 1.6 litre non TD non DI engines and the water pump was driven by a belt of its own, to change the water pump was so easy.....to fit the belt and time it was so easy.......No special tools back then (available to the home workshop guy)...biggest cost in, say a head gasket job, was the 'stretch bolts'.

Stretch bolts always make me nervous, but I agree with Stephen, the earlier VWs were a dream to work on. I miss my air-cooled 1.6l engine in my 1974 Super Beetle.

Little suggestion, you have to look and adjust your torsion value after you do a timing belt change on those, make it 0.5 or even 0.0

Looks like I'll be putting in a 160F on my CJ when I put in the hybrid motor. I do know that the ALH tune has a 186F map. So until it hits 186F, it relies on the lower maps. Either way, thanks Grant! I had a feeling that the timing belt was off a little bit. Glad that works better.

Yeah I never thought about it until I started driving it after doing the timing belt, just everything felt better. Just need to figure out the transmission issues I'm having and then I should have the the key components of my swap finally finished. I do think my transmission is the cause of some of the heat my BEW TDI is producing as well. I might need to look into a different torque converter at some point in the future but for now this one is working good enough.

@@RustyAutoholicGuy I was wondering the same thing. Autos have the tendency to increase heat due to loss of power through the trans/torque converter. I know Scott's setup, which is just like mine, has higher temps than I do as well.

I knew the automatic was going to affect temperatures but I didn't consider the fact that I would get hit both from the automatic itself and then the cooler for the automatic in front of the radiator as well!

You did get video out!! Great to see all these small gremlins getting weeded out. Definitely not a fan of the plastic impellers on water pumps. Sooooo close!
