I hope you enjoyed and found this video helpful. If you have any questions or a suggestion, please leave a comment! Although you may see ads, this video isnt actually monetised and the platform keeps all the profit. If you would like to support this video with a small donation, it would be very gratefully received. Im pretty sure it's a safe, easy process through this link: ko-fi.com/adamgilbert I think I spent roughly 40-60 hours to make this video, in an effort to deliver valuable, quality content. I thought you might assess the problem I have with occasional flameouts. I discovered it was because of tiny air bubbles produced by the diesel pump that accumulated in a an upper bent in the fuel line to the heater. Eventually it entered the combustion chamber and extinguished the flame. Causing a lot of white smoke and diesel leaking before giving an error code and shutting off. Does anyone else have this problem? And is there a solution other than replacing the pump?

Hi ya.. I watched your video and tried all you said. Unfortunately it still wouldn't light. So I took the clean a step further, and it's now working like it was when it was brand new. Just to make sure that it wasn't a fluke, I repeated the same process on the other 2 dead heaters that I had kept when they failed. All 3 now work perfectly! Video is on my page, hope it helps! Thanks for posting this to help others who may be struggling.

Hmmmmm, maybe that is my problem... I had it pointing straight down, but just recently bent the pipe towards the back of the van as soon as it comes out of the van floor. I will straighten it out again, to see if that fixes my problem, shutting off and blowing white smoke through the intake pipe, instead of cooling down before it shuts off, like it used to...

I am a mechanic that's certified on all Espar/Eberspacher products i broadly agree with this video. One thing I disagree with though, Every 2000 run hours you should replace that ignition mesh. If you are in a serious bind you can do as he described. The meshes are very cheap, even the espar official ones. Get the green gaskets as well. It's very important or you will be wasting a lot of diesel and having combustion products(carbon monoxide!!) getting into your heated area. LIVING area. You'll be breathing that stuff. Remove the glow pin with a 12mm wrench, use a small screwdriver and needle nose pliers to remove the mesh. All Bolts are torx T27 except for one holding the control box which is T20. If you are not confident about it, ask somebody you know or bring it in for professional service. Prolonged carbon monoxide causes brain damage and headaches. If you live in a bus/van and rely on these heaters... Please, do it right. For your own sake.

This video is solid. Very helpful graphics. Notably you revealed one problem that almost neve gets discussed, and that is the depth of the atomizing screen. As mentioned, the screen must be below the air hole. My heater showed an even more subtle symptom. It would start fine when the ambient temp was 70F or above. At temps below 40, it would struggle to light, then extinguish as soon as the heater tried to ramp up. After using my heater heavily for 4 years plus, I have decided that I really should disassemble it every summer for a cleaning and inspection. Nearly every problem I have now is due to neglect. I subscribed and liked just based on the quality of this video.

make a hook out of the stainless steel wire of a Chinese food container and stick it in the screen opening at the far end and pull it out. Good to have a few spare screens as they damage easily. I also had a lot of carbon buildup in that hole past the screen and used the same wire to open it up by poking a hole through the carbon.

This is probably one of the Best videos i have seen on this smoky problem. Makes total sense to me. Only problem, is after my same Smokey start up and pulling the chamber out, i find it very difficult to successfully clean the gause type mesh inside the chamber itself, which unfortunately is welded in place at time of manufacturing. So after cleaning all accessible parts and replacing the small filter mesh, my heater started right up with No smoke atall. My only solution is to keep a new burn chamber in stock at $27 canadian as a solid back up.

This is by far the best video. I am having a issue. It starts up almost goes to or does go full fuel but then shuts down. After 3 starts it runs fine. Now seeing this video I see how critical that small hole is for air to get to the screen for combustion of oil on the screen. (Screen is sort of like a mantel is a gas light) Pressure fed oil burners atomize the oil so it will burn. The diesel heater vaporizes it on the hot screen a very cool process eleminating the high pressure pump and spray nozzel. I am going to try and blow out the fuel feed line to the screen and see what happens. I don't want to take it apart it's to cold. I bet the small hose has dust or dirt build up since the intake air is not filtered other that a screen in the intake.

The tiny air intake hole for the glow-plug is the path for fuel leakage when the heater is operated on its side (the wrong side, with glowplug facing downwards - whereby the blown cabin air will eventually contain diesel fumes) - it's not 'leaky' or faulty, it's why correct positioning is key.

Hi Adam. Thanks for that. Thinking that this vid ticks all the boxes for the problems that literally began two days ago when started on the first really cold day of our winter in Germany, after dismantling and inspecting the combustion chamber , I found it was only lightly coated with soot but that it was wet with unburned fuel. I cleaned it all thoroughly anyway. Glow plug looks good, mesh is seated correctly. After reassembly and restarting, I kept an eye on the screen to check the readings. As white smoke began belching out as before, I noticed that the glow plug symbol went out. I flicked through through the menu pressing "OK" and saw the temperature rise only slowly from 44, 45 thru to 58 degrees C and then stop at 58. White smoke was still belching out so I pressed for "OFF". Shut down process ran as normal. Glow plug symbol came on again briefly. No error code appeared. The sun is shining at 3 pm, outside air temp. (for combustion intake air) is 4 degrees. Any ideas?

Get a new mesh every 2000 run hours. It's a required maintenance item. You can try cleaning it as he has in this video, but theyre seriously so cheap and you can have a couple handy for later. 2000 run hours is 24/7 operation for 4 months. Or 12 hour operation for 8 months.

❤ your video 👍 When you buy a new ignition mesh, get one that comes with an insertion tool. It enables replacement to the correct depth without needing to remove any more than the outer cover and the glow plug. It’s so easy to do that I do mine every few months which negates any significant carbon build up in the ignition port. Takes about 2 minutes. I also have a bit of stiff wire with a bend on the end that fits in the fuel supply hole, a quick poke keeps that clear too. Ask me how I know to do this🙄😂

A tip for the exhaust - put a water trap in it. This is like the U bend on a sink. Mine is made from a coil of a couple of turns of thin pipe. The water in the trap stops exhaust getting out but water can flow through it. The Exhaust is usually 22mm, the same as Plumbing fittings. I made my exhaust from 22mm copper pipe with compression fittings. It makes for a tidy robust solution.

IMHO these Chinese heater guys are geniuses! They have created a device that is really useful but also flawed at the same time. While some folks have the skills to tear part these heaters and service them, majority of people end up buying "readily" available spares to solve the issue. Its a flawed system as there is no way to "easily" clean the critical parts of the system as it allows massive build of carbon. It's the nature of the fuel as well.
@merlin1346
@merlin1346 Жыл бұрын
One very important thing also are 'the bends', I fitted a new 24v in my wooden shed but would repeatedly flame out so I fitted my other also new 12v heater which did exactly the same thing. In both cases I used the same exhaust set up which had 2 90degree bends and 1 45degree bend (through a stainless steel exhaust bulkhead fitting). Removing the 2 90degree bends solved the problem. Perhaps these heaters might benefit from smooth bore exhaust pipe 🤔

Had a buddy that had two diesel fired heaters . One would heat coolant for his floor heating setup and the second would heat the air at low temp low speed. Said it was more comfortable that way

Thank you for the video. I paid 100 usd 4 years ago for my heater off amazon and I use it to heat my garage in ohio winters and this is the first year it's throwing a error code and blowing white smoke so I'm sure this is the issue because I've never cleaned it..

I find it much easier to start the next time by running the heater up to 160C for a few minutes before shutting it down. Manual prime the heater for a few seconds, make sure your battery is well charged to 14 volts and start it. It should light as soon as it starts to inject fuel.

I just spoke to the person that fitted my diesel heater asked if it needs servicing it's a planar diesel heater what he said to me is no need to service just run it for full power once a month so I would think the same with the Chinese
