Pull your cover, pop out your c clips, pull your axles, Skrew it power wash it. Then bug sprayer, spray axle fluid at shaft ends.But catch that fluid, put shafts back in ,strain fluid, now spray differential gears, let drain, new clips ,put back pin ,tighten bolt, put a magnet to inside lower cover, replace cover, fill w/75-90 sync gear. Done!!!!!!

It is exactly the same thing that happened to mine. The metal went on the sensor and prevented it from reading so my speedometer started hopping. He is right, the best fix for this is to replace the rear dif.

I had the same problem with my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi after my mechanic changed my front pinion and left disconnected and dirty the ABS sensor. Test and replace the faulty front wheel ABS sensor located behind the rotor. Dodge Ram 1500 have 4 ABS brake sensors: 2 on the front wheels, 1 by the transmission and that's the one you'd change if you have problem with bouncing speedometer and 1 on the rear axle by the differential cover. If you don't have any problem with the gauges or speedometer but just the ABS brake lights, you must check the front wheel sensors and replace it. It's a easy fix.

First, you probably should have parked to do this video. Second, P0500 is just a generic (thus the P) speed sensor code and doesn't have anything to do with "metal" inside your diff. The magnet having "metal sludge" on it is normal. I've never pulled a diff plug (I'm a mechanic) where the magnet has been clean. If it's clean, you're not driving. That's why the magnet is there. Instead of unnecessarily replacing your good differential you should probably check for a bad ground, corrosion maybe around the PCM harness or ABS module. Check your ABS sensors (depending on your model) as well. These old Dodges are known for having wiring issues, and that's likely where your problem is/was. Just because a light goes out it doesn't mean what you did was the solution. I've worked on vehicles with suspension noise and just the act of raising it into the air temporarily relieves the noise, but that doesn't mean the problem is solved. A good mechanic doesn't stop until he/she is 100% sure they found the problem and fixed it. You can't say, "I fixed it, but the problem might return"

Your cause of your code may differ from my cause. My video is to help those with my problem, apparently yours may or may not be different,l. Mine is definitely "fixed". The ABS light on my 2007 Dodge 2500 diesel truck was on and I traced it to a bad ABS sensor. I replaced it on the driver's side after I tested it with a DMM ohmmeter and found that it was an open circuit.

I just bought the Dorman 970-280 ABS Wheel Speed Sensor. Mine is an 07 ram hemi, crew cab, 2x4, 160k. Hope I bought the correct one. Actually hope it fixes the issue. It's doing the speedo bouncing to zero then back to 60 or whatever I'm traveling at, it causes the cc to cut off, has the never stops dinging with the abs/brake lights staying on. Sucks hearing all that never ending dinging when just driving to the store or somewhere & back! I've parked it for now till the issue gets resolved. Btw, the jacklkegs that send back that trolling bs pattys of feedback aint worth ANYONES time. Dont waste yours, its WAYYY to valuable to waste on shitbags. As you all know(even them), they'd be the very first ones kissing ass and thanking anybody for any info that related to their particular fix. Another thing you might want to try... I dont know how in the hell, but I always end up getting water inside the abs connector behind the battery, and it causes all these problems and more and its irritating. I dont even know how the hell, but that same connector gets wet I get brake light and dinging sometimes, sometimes the o2 sensors throw a code and read 0v (weirdest shit ever) sometimes if it's real bad it won't even try to start, itll sometimes say no bus on the odometer... But every time I pull the connector its wet and I dry it out and it works fine until it rains heavy again or I go to the carwash. Bout to spray that flex seal haha

I'm not sure if it's the same as my 2002. Mine is located on the top of rear differential housing. Some models have them on the whell hubs, but you'd have to either find someone with the same model as you, or buy a repair manual that will guide you better.

ABS sensors are on the front wheel hubs on a 2006, speed sensor/rwabs sensor is in the top of the rear diff. Abs module is right behind the battery. Im having issues with mine now. Both abs light and brake light on, check engine light on. Showing code U1120. Replaced the speed sensor, no change. Replaced abs sensors at the hubs, no change. Replaced the module, and check engine light went out and speedometer works. Abs light and brake light are still on. I cant figure it out.

Sounds like the problem I just recently gone through with my buick 2003 rendevous.It will slowly get worst. The lights and alarm will come on more often.and in my case it took 3 months of headache before while drving home from grocery store, the brake pedal just gave out. changed the brake fluid master cylinder,bleed brakes properly etc..and prob solved since...except for the abs light..it's still on..WTF

Dino, i got same issues. Abs and red brake light comes on minutes after clearing code. Ding, ding, dinging! the entire time. Doesn't stop till i clear out again. C1036 "rear wheel speeded sensor circuit" it says. I got 07 w ex cab, 5.7L hemi, 4x2, 150k. Also Speedo bounces when it starts, cruise cuts off by itself. There's a sensor on top of rear axle. Runs great during all the dinging and abs/brake lights on. Comes on immediately most of time, stays on and dings whole time I'm driving. Ive parked it for now. I couldn't tell how to get the freakin clip off the damn sensor! Any thoughts here? Thx man!

Marc carraway are you talking about the wire harness clip or the actual mount that screws into the top of the housing? If its the mount that screws in, then I had to carefully pry the part that holds the brake line back a bit, to allow a wrench to grab that bolt. If its the wore harness, then there is a locking clip that you beed to depress before pulling the harness off.

Hey Dino! Thx man. Yea, its the clip from the wiring that goes into the sensor. Can I put a pic somewhere? Theres a big black stain on the differential, not on the outside, the inside of it, and it shows that plus the whole pigtail, sensor, etc. Like to show you the stain as well but I'm sure its a leak, just not sure if its from the diff or the rear end or something as its on the inside outer shell of diff, not the outside, where you'd do the actual fluid change.

Just be careful not to break the plastic harness, you don't want to add another item to your repair list. Light pressure and wiggling should do the trick.

Ok. Got the smallest screwdriver I had, pried/slid back the red safety thing, "lock" I guess, on the top rearwards as far as it would go, was able to push down on the tab under where red safety thing was to free er up! Thx for that. I used same lil driver to pry the sensor up a little and it got it out. Nothing broke. Whats up w the seepage all over the backside of the diff? Is it from the diff u think? Its not from the rear end where the u joints are, just before the diff, right? Prob need to replace fluid/gasket? The entire rear of the pumpkin is brown from this seeping going on. What fluid do you use? I got the 07 4x2 axle, rear end's diff. Thx.

Armando Jr. Completo I don't have a Caravan but I have heard that the cable that goes from your emergency brake can become worn and start hanging up so you can't properly disengage it. Maybe you can just find that cable for a reasonable price and try to change it? Just noticed you didn't get any replies for a year.

So lastnight I got in my truck its a 2004 1500 5.7 turned the ignition on with out starting the truck and the brake lights came on fire the truck up still on turned the headlights on and there still bright like I had my foot on the brake got going down the road and the abs and brake lights came on tge dash board, any help would be great to narrow stuff down before tearing it all apart would be great.

That's a little different then how mine acted. I would start with the easiest things first. Scan the OBD for any codes, check all related fuses and relays, then check the actual brake pedal switch, etc.

I have another video about fixing a broken wire under the fuse box when my radio had issues. These things are just full of electrical issues. Could be anything from a bad ground, a broken or pinched wire, or anything in between. Start with the easiest solution 1st and then move on to the next one as you rule them out.

@Dino fuse I replaced the output speed sensor because that was the code it threw me on the OBD do you have a PN or a name of the sensor on hand of the sensor you're talking about located on the differential housing ?? my speedo works at 40+ MPH but nothing before then ... also my 04 Ram 5.7 has been running at a rough idle and at real low RPMs do you think this could also be related issue.. I've changed all spark plugs, O2s, and my EGR will run good for a couple days then back to garbage any info is appreciated I'm losing my mind trying to cure my truck. I've got a P0300 code as well as a P0132.. and P0501 which is for "vehicle speed sensor A range/ performance"

The speed sensor issue is very hard to diagnose, it seems like whatever fixes one truck may not fix another with the same symptoms. Dodge had also put different configurations of sensors on different model years, so one truck may have wheel speed sensors located at each hub, while others like mine only have the differential housing type. I don't have the part number on hand, but if you go to either Autozone or Advanced Auto websites and put your year, make and model in, then do a search for speed sensor, it should pull up compatable parts and show the locations of each. As for the rough idle issue, I just happened to fix this issue on mine last week. I cleaned the throttle body intake and changed out the Throttle Position Sensor and the Idle Air Control Valve. Now it idles steady and smooth. I did not do a video on those 3 items because several already exist on KZbin. Just search your truck make and model and add each item after for each search, you will find plenty of helpful videos. The parts are only like 120 bucks and it only took about an hour or so to do. Hope this helps.

@@dinofuse6949 thanks alot for responding so quickly, I am going to try replacing my ABS sensor on the diff as I need new fluid anyway found one at AutoZone for about 40$ I'm hoping it helps resolve my timing with how my trans shifts too. I also will look up videos for those other sensors as well I haven't come across any of them yet in my searches I was starting to lean towards it being the camshaft position sensor from everything I've read I might even swap that too for re assurance.. do you remember what codes you had with your rough idle of any at all.. was it causing a P0300 (random misfire)? I'm willing to try anything to get all these lights off my dash, it's lit up like a damn Christmas tree ... trying to get the most out of my 04 Ram approaching 200k miles 😬

@@jcoggins2012 mine wasn't throwing codes for the rough idle, but it would stall randomly. The idle air controle valve and the throttle position sensor replacement cured it, along with cleaning the throttle body. They sell a spray cleaner specifically for the throttle body, use that and an old toothbrush and a rag, best of luck. Dodge really should have recalls with all of their sensor issues. It's ridiculous.

@@dinofuse6949 thanks for the info I just opened my differential a few days ago and sure as shit I had that C clip sitting in the bottom of the housing i cleaned up the sludge and replaced the fluid luckily the clip didn't get bound up in any gears and was the whole piece. My ABS & Brake light have since gone away and my Speedo is back to working good again! Seems as if my mileage has slightly improved as well. As far as my rough idle ive noticed when I disconnect my battery it disappears for awhile and it hasn't returned since I did that a few days ago about to get my codes read again today. were you getting noises out of the rear end? I've been chasing a pulsing sound now for a month. did all u joints, brakes, wheel bearings. still have a sound, and in the past few days when I take a hard left turn the ABS and brake light come on but when I shut the truck off they go away and stay off do you think if I pull the speed sensor out of the pumpkin will it have pieces of metal stuck to it and I only have 1 ABS sensor on the front left tire do you think if that has Gunk on it and I turned it just right it would set the light?

Doug Howard Mine started with a little chatter in the rear as I accelerated from a stop. Its worth pulling the sensor to check it, as it only takea a few minutes to do. Chek all wires to all of your abs sensors as well, look for obvious signs of chaffed or shorted out wiring. it wouldnt hurt to pull the differential cover off and drain the old fluid if it hasn't been done in a while, also check the magnet in the bottom of the differential housing, you need to feel around for it, as it is flat and covered with oil. It would only take about 20 to 30 minutes to do. Also, replace the old gasket and buy new fluid of course. Especially if you find the fine metal shavings on your sensor. Good luck, hope this helped.

Dino Fuse thank you for your quick response, now I took the cover off the pumpkin about two months ago to do the rear wheel bearings just the outside and it wasn't the first time I've opened up that pumpkin everything looks fine then and I'm well aware how to reinstall my axles properly and putting the c clips back in. everything looked good in there. then recently I went on a trip about 800 miles through the mountains most of the time I was in 4-wheel drive because there was a snowstorm it was when I came back I realized I had a pulsating noise that would increase as I went faster a very faint noise only someone with a tight ear could hear so I thought maybe brakes had a bad caliper replaced it all my rotors were good so I just put pads all the way around truck stops like a dream but the noise is still there my speedometer doesn't go up and down and those lights only come on when I take turns I've been watching videos and reading forms all morning I'm stuck between a dirty abs sensor or maybe my speed sensor is working right and I have a bad inner bearing in the pumpkin or possibly that c clip came out and I was all set on trying to figure out those two things when I read a bunch of people talking about their being bad wires under the computer which I've had issues there before with other things I realize now that I'm just rambling and probably wasting your time but thank you for your quick response and your information was very helpful I'll be sure to pull that sensor out and look at it thank you

Doug Howard you're welcome. Just remember, what a lot of people are calling "C" clips in the forums, are actually clutch pack retaining clips that are breaking apart in the differential, at least in my case. The c clips as you already know hold the axle and bearings in the housing. The clutch pack retaining clips are small, about the diameter of a nickel. That is what was fouling up my differential. Hope you get it solved. let me know what you eventually figure out.

I'll let you know what happens either way I'll fix it 280000 miles original motor and tranny only thing under the hood that's been changed is the battery and a power steering pump, and I guess headers. I changed the original battery this year. no Bondo and no rotted wheel wells. I put a bumper on it because the old one rotted away LOL my friends call it the miracle truck we think the planets were aligned just right when they made it . And by the way it's the five 5.7 Magnum

Are your brakes locked up? Last Sunday I went to look at an 05 with the Hemi and I thought just the parking brake was stuck because there were no lights on the dash. I got it up to 60 on the highway and all 4 brakes started smoking.

Ivan Peralta the pieces I had were the Clutch Pack Retaining Clips, not the axel C Clips. A lot of people on the Internet call them C Clips, so that's were the confusion comes from. Hope you get it fixed either way, good luck.

It is mounted on the top of the differential housing, but you can't see the sensor from looking inside the housing because all of the gears are in the way. When you get under the truck, look above where the driveshaft attaches to the housing. You will see wires attached by a connector to it. There is one small bolt holding both the sensor and a brake line in place. You must be careful not to damage this brake line if you remove the sensor. I don't have any pictures of the sensor and its location handy, but it is the only thing with wires going to the differential.

Cody H I'm willing to bet you have the "c" clips poeces in the bottom of your differential. The Clutch Pack Retainer Clips look like pieces of round tubing almost. Let me know if you have that symptom. Cleaning them out and changing the fluid is only a temporary fix though.

It goes into a "failsafe" mode that will allow it to run, but very poorly, forcing the driver to have it checked. If your check engine light didn't come on, it's because your speedometer was still working at least somewhat. My check engine light never came on until the speedometer completely quit working at all for 20 miles or so. I have a new video I am putting together showing how I clean out the differential housing, etc., and showing the problem going away immediately. It should be loaded in the next week or so.

Dino Fuse nope is a dodge ram 1999 i think its pretty old i think We almost gave up trying to get it to start. but gave it one last shot and it eventually cranked over and started but ran very poorly (Well there was no air filter on it because we tried spraying engine starting fluid directly into the intake but it still didn't solve help or even make much of a noticable difference while trying to start... it sounded like it started really weakly. Lots of different color black and white smoke poured out of the exhaust. but then it cleared up rapidly and the tailpipe made a normal engine sound of a wub wub wub instead of sshshshhshhhhshhh There was a lot of hissing sometimes when it would first try to start up. also seems to be a vacuum line going directly to the air filter box to the oil tank or engine block oil tank pedal to the floor or not. it would just not wanna seem to start up. but eventually did after loads of cranking over several days.

+realflow100 that could be a lot of different things, plugs, wires, injectors, you name it. Mine had a weak start up issue when I first got it, it smoked when starting too, and it turned out to be a bad injector. I'd start by having the codes read fron the obd system 1st, and go from there.

@@tii2015 yep. Its fixed. Still running strong. I recorded it, but my phone got corrupted and only parts of the video were available.

@@dinofuse6949 That's Great! Mine is still running also. (Barely). Ran diagnostics on it, got 5 codes, mainly emission. Replaced up & down stream right bank, EGR, and last Saturday Mass Air Flow sensor. Cleared all codes, runs SOOO Smooth. (No lights). Left work today and engine light came back on, ABS/Brake Light came BACK ON.😣😣 Pretty sure engine light has to do with ABS/Brake in Differential. What do you think? TII
