Buffoonery, Chrysler had 25 billion dollars in the bank when Daimler approached Chrysler. DAIMLER needed Chrysler for it's recourses because Mercedes Benz was losing billions to Lexus, BMW and Acura in the 90s. Chrysler didn't need Daimler, it was the other way around, do your research.

@manuelsmiley7125 Жыл бұрын
@@happyjohn8256 stop it, it was a 36 billion dollar MERGER. Daimler later used it's extra assets and it's earlybird access to the stock markets in Europe to takeover Chrysler. Chrysler was the most powerful car company in the late 90s, that's why Daimler came knocking on the door. After LOOTING Chrysler of it's vital assets, it ended up being a shell of it's own self, that's why they sold 80% of the company to Cerberus and tried to keep the other 20% to themselves. Barack Obama forced Daimler to give up that 20% and forced Chrysler's CEO out. Obama loaned Chrysler 12 billion dollars to fix itself on the condition that Chrysler would allow itself to be bought by a trash company called Fiat. So yes, Chrysler's cash flow saved Daimler and it's currently saving two more European car companies Peugeot and Fiat ( considering the fact that Chrysler makes 65% of the groups profit).

I worked as a toolmaker for Newark Assy. for Chrysler Corp. from 93 to 09 when the plant closed.Chrysler never needed Daimler Benz. The company was doing fine with 8 billion in cash reserve at the time of the "takeover" When Daimler took over they took away as many improvements that had been made on the vehicle as they could get away with. For just a few examples they eliminated some inspection on the final line ,did away with the color coordinated running boards, eliminated reinforcement brackets in the under-body and also did away with the shipping tape? that you normally only see on expensive vehicles. They actually cheapened the Dodge Durango. I was there.

Scotty often has his own version of the real world. I was a MSF Motorcycle Safety Instructor for around 20 years and listened to his EXPERT review of motorcycle items. I guess MSF should have not bothered and simply contacted him, so much for the Hurt Report and actual accident analysis. Have an older Dodge with a 4.7 and it has over 175k miles and yes I had to fix it myself. Turns out simply the mile-long cam chain system wore out enough to require attention and a few small electrical issues, it runs like a clock. I would have selected that Old Hemi if I could, but buying a used vehicle, you take what it has.

My 05 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi has been flawless mechanically except the usual wear and tear items. The 5 speed trans like some have stated on here has 6 gears using a 2nd prime gear for downshifting from 5th at highway speeds, it only uses 5 up shifts tho. Great truck, not the most comfortable but it's the last of the "real" trucks made, not like these 100k $ Cadillac wus trucks of today. Mine can really take a beating without skipping a beat.

I'm the owner of an 04 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5.7Hemi 2wd, Bought it brand spanking new in November of 03. I'm at 300,000+ kms and she's still driving (4-5 xs per week) with no issues. With exception to the typical wear & tear components (brakes, shocks etc) I've only had to replace a fuel pump, heater core & (1) o2 sensor,.........THAT'S IT !!!!. Of course the body is rotting away (good old Toronto Canada winters, lol) but this truck is a beast and I will run this thing until she quits. Not bad for a purchase made almost 20 yrs back. Myself and 2 other friends all purchased the same truck within a matter of months back in 03/04. One of them decided to upgrade in 2010/11 with a new model Ram 1500 and it was nothing but issues for him within 4-5 months of owning the vehicle. As for the other friend with the 04? It's still going strong with 400,000kms + and minimal repairs over the years......A great all around truck with a super strong motor ;)

The old magnum engines are near bulletproof. The 3.9 isn't winning any 1/4 miles, but it's cast iron and will outlast the frames on most vehicles. 12 years ago I bought a 94 3.9 Dakota for $1200 and I've probably put less than $3500 into it since. $1400 of it being a 42rh trans rebuild.

Also, even though these have issues with lifters they are pretty easy to do, easier then the gm lifters imo. only thing is a lot of the dodges i see start having excessive main/rod bearing clearance and low oil pressure after 220 or so where as the gm bottom end usually make it past 260-270. same with the 5.0 motors from ford. a lot of those end up getting oil pressure issues after about 220 which is usually oil pump or lower end wear.

The 5.7 has more then enough power for the average Joe. and given the price of diesel in Canada (1.90 a liter where I'm to, gas is 1.60) the 5.7 is a no Brainer at the moment. Which is unfortunate, given the excellent reputation of the 5.9, but this generation 5.7 is very very reliable as well before they gave them MDS in 2007.

One being the downstream o2 wiring (when changing it, the wires on the truck side of the harness just came right out with no pressure, so they probably did that before I got it thinking they could just hide it). Overall, I'd have loved to have gotten this truck years ago. Pretty solid overall.

The transmission in that truck is technically a 6 speed. Mechanically it's basically the same as the 65RFE, but instead of using all 6 gears, two of them take turns being 2nd gear depending on whether you are towing, or if the shift is an up or down shift.

in reference to the keyway problem, they make what they call a step key, one side is bigger, you can measure the damaged side and come up with a size that can be ground down to mimic the damaged keyway in such a way that it has to be tapped in with a piece of brass, while at the same time you have bought a key that fits the undamaged key of the part that slides onto the shaft. at the machine shop we also did maintenance work like this all the time , the customer had a machine down and they were losing big money any time it was down and we did stuff like this all the time, do it right and you will never have any more trouble rather than tear the machine down for days or weeks

The hemi lifter problem is an oil pressure problem. Prolonged idles kills the rollers on the lifter pins, which causes the pins to wear the cam lobe. Never prolong idle anything. Manually raise rpm by pressing the throttle every 3-5 minutes. Bump the idle up from 500 rpm to 750 rpm, if you idle regularly and you will never have an issue. You need 45 psi or better, not the 39 psi at 500 rpm I trade my trucks every 200 thousand miles and my kid still has my last hemi running strong at 200 k plus. That era (2003-2008) Hemi had valve-seat drop issues. The intake valve seats were made of a different material than the head and when they heated up they expanded at different rates. Eventually (usually around 120k+ miles), that little valve seat will drop into the cylinder causing all kinds of damage. The way to prolong it is to AVOID idling for long periods (avoid drive-thrus, etc.)

I bought my 2004 Dodge Dakota SLT long bed with 4x4 and 4.7l V8. I loved it because it still had an old style front end and fenders. It spent most of its life on the island of Maui until about 85,000 miles. Then I moved to Oregon and eventually Virginia. Did a couple trips around the US and drive it with all my belongings from Oregon to Virginia. It still has just over 100,000. Worst case was my son's and now grandson did a job on it. Luckily I had the 12 year warranty. I've had the ac replaced under warranty, rear end under warranty and am fixing it right now after my grandson rear-ended people for a third time. I'm getting to be an expert on the front end. I've replaced water pump, cv axles and other front end bushings. I just changed the valve cover gaskets for oil leaks. Ready to reinstall the clutch fan, radiator, condenser and bumper. I still like it though. The oil pan gasket could use a change, but I'm not pulling the engine to get the oil pan off. I'll be turning it over to my grandson, so he can do it.

The only Dodge/Chrysler engine I'll trust is the 4.0 straight 6. Those things could withstand a nuclear blast and still run. Mine had over 100,000 miles on it and I ran into an odd dilemma: it was outlasting the interior components. Had to sell it as everything AROUND the engine was wearing out and failing! But the old straight 6 ran like a champ and NEVER EVER failed me in 12 years of ownership.

I remember in my dodge ram 1500 I used to use the huge arm rest as a table to put my fast food. It fit everyone’s food bags even people in the back seat. (Even tho they had a arm rest in the back too that was pretty big also.

I have a 2020 Ram Rebel. I have had none of the negative issues people have complained of. I don’t let the truck just sit and idle. I drive the truck like i care about it and not like it’s in dome extreme baja enduro race. Keep your oil changed. And disable the mds.

Bought an 04 Hemi from a friend. Almost 200k and still going strong. He has a 250k 05 that is as well, minus a not so great transmission when it's cold.

@@billywatson118 How old is Scotty? He says he’s been a mechanic for 54 years, but I’m guessing he includes a few years that he was helping out his dad in high school. So what… I’m guessing… somewhere between 69 and 74?

My truck is an ‘06, almost just like that one. It’s made in Mexico, by Daimler Chrysler. It’s got a 5.7 with 150k, and has been quite dependable.

Glad I bought the 06 grandcherokee I bought now. Made with the 4.7 and 5 speed Mercedes’ trans. Thought it was a bad idea at first but only issue left to deal with on it is the rear main seal

Hey Scotty - tried looking through your videos for an answer already on this and came up short. I've got a service manual on the way, hoping it's got a decent schematic of the electrical system, but in the meantime - you ever hear of a power windows, blower control, and radio going out at the same time, but the power locks still work. 05 Power Wagon. Asking for a friend.

I was told from a few different sources that the 3.6 VVT engines are also good. Is that wrong? It is about the only thing in my Grand Caravan that hasn't needed replacing. Still runs good with 300 k on it.

In my opinion it’s the best engine dodge uses that isn’t a V8. I have a 200s with the 3.6 and it’s the only reason i own the car
