hi Gary, thank you for the video. I have imported 200 contacts and they are labelled "admin added" and so are not "subscribed". When I go to Import history there is no "undo". If I try to delete them to import again, as you suggest, I get a warning that they cannot be added back to the contact list again once they have been deleted. Help!

Thanks for the video, Gary. I made this exact mistake and imported my first audience as cleaned. I followed the instructions in the video to fix it, but my old audience contacts were not removed even when the undo import was confirmed successful in the history. Before watching your video I had previously tried reimporting the same contacts as subscribed and clicked "update any existing contacts", but that didn't work. Likewise when I tried importing again without "update existing contacts clicked." I saw another person in the comments experienced this and you recommended to logout and back in again. No luck there either unfortunately. I also researched deleting the audience and then just re-importing the same contacts, but from what I've read Mailchimp would permanently block those addresses, and I wouldn't be able to import them ever again. Have I lost these good contacts to the purgatory of 'cleaned'. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Valeria, yes, this whole process seems a bit temperamental; sometimes certain actions work as expected and sometimes not. Very frustrating! In Mailchimp, contact actions are stored at the Audience level. Should you delete the Audience then the subscribe/cleaned/unsubscribed action will also be removed with the Audience. Deleting the Audience, creating a new Audience and then importing into the new Audience should work for you.

I find it easiest to add all contacts to an Excel spreadsheet then removing duplicates before importing in to Mailchimp

You'll be able to identify where contacts subscribed via the 'Source' column when viewing your Audience.

I tried the undo import method and reimporting after accidentally uploading a list of contacts as Cleaned, and it did not work. Mailchimp still has record of those email addresses as being cleaned or "bounced." Mailchimp should give much better warnings to this Cleaned selection if it's that irreversible!

Gary, I followed your instructions on how to change contacts from unsubscribed to subscribed, however, my UNDO button in the archive import does not work. It is grayed out and inactive. Can you help with this problem or anybody out there who has solution. I cannot undo any of the 250 contacts that I imported into my contact list which means my newsletter cannot go out to anyone. Unfortunately you may need to delete your existing Audience, create a new Audience and then import your contacts :(

There is no means of identifying these contacts in Mailchimp. If you have a single Audience then this issues doesn't occur ;)

This can occur when you send an email with images or video only. If the recipirnt has images blocked then this will occur.

Hi Elena, Just to stress that Mailchimp will only allow you to import Cleaned contacts as Subscribed where you imported the Contacts initially as cleaned. Mailchimp won't allow you to change the status of cleaned to subscribed if you've sent an email to the email address and they've been marked as cleaned due to a bounce.
