Very helpful, the one I had was hiding behind different/reliable apps ex. samsung express, or google, so when I would check what apps were running it would show the wrong app and not the one that was actually causing the pop-ups, but they second solution you showed about checking the app store helped, it showed both the app it was hiding behind and also the app causing the problem. To dertermine the app at once i click the button down to the left which show me tabs of: youtube, google chrome and so on -->then hold down on the small icon to the left and it displayed the real icon off the app that was advertizing. --> then unistall

I would say do a cleanup of your phone, start by formatting and then installing only the trusted apps.

I identified the culprit as Peel Remote which is part of Samsung's bloatware. I don't use it but it was starting up on its own somehow and periodically putting up full page adds. I think I was able to disable it but it can't be completely uninstalled. I hate adware.

Ok follow these steps ro remove pop-up ads and how to clear all storage plus its easy But its only for samsung Ok here are the steps! : Step 1 : click settings Step 2 : search in settings "storage" and click it. Step 3 : click "used space" Step 4 : click "application" Step 5 : find "video player" Step 6 : click "clear data" so if u delete it cannot leave any storage. Step 7 : click on the "application" Step 8 (final move) : then delete it

This is definitely not a solution because sometimes the "culprit app" can be hard to detect because it blends in with your system apps making it a "Ghost app" or Trojan virus. But unfortunately Google play store have lame anti virus apps that can't detect the corrupt app or apk, etc.
