After many hours of searching and trying many possible solutions, this one simple action solved the problem. The screw in the hole was really hard to see, and was too hard for me to turn, but when a locksmith (whom I hired) came, I mentioned this possible solution first. She tried it (and she could turn the screw), and instantly my problem was solved! Thank you for posting!

Hey this worked for a friend of mine's lock. Thank you so much for posting!

I will try this, but I believe it may be a lubrication issue as well, I have seen others strip theirs apart and what they did is was just messing with the spring attached to the motor, some stretched the spring, others compressed the spring, something both fixes had in common is they retubed the lock, that must be it. I would think just turning the override screw a few times freed up the lubricant for a short term fix but I will try that first before stripping it down and lubricate it. There must be an easier way to get down to lubricating it then what I have seen from other videos.

Thanks, had the same problem. It's 3ºF cold right now, wondering if it's part of the problem, seems to be a sticking solenoid.
@freakerss Жыл бұрын
They work much colder than that. If it's not working at that temp you might just have a weak battery.

@@freakerss Thanks. I've solved the problem by completely removing the lock-unlock part, so it can never get in the way by accident. I've never used that function anyway. I've also lubed the internals. It's been working ever since.

FYI the physical key does not release/turn the lock when it spins like this... This literally JUST happened to me a little over an hour ago and I didn't have the key on me, had to call my Mum to rescue me (or I thought by bringing me the key that would save the day). Even with the key it still only spins without catching anything. I ended up having to scale the patios to climb over the railing and try to go in through my patio door (I live on the top floor of a 3 story condo building). sure enough patio was locked up too, thankfully not as tightly as my steel framed front door. My Mum managed to find a crowbar like thing with a flat screw driver type end I got into the door after some forcing I was able to get the right leverage and break the patio lock. Learn from my mistake: the moment the lock stops catching even a touch, swap it out! I didnt change it right a and on my way out the door forgot not to lock the deadbolt until the moment it latched and was too late. Not happy with Schlage locks right about now and I doubt I'll be getting Schlage as the replacement lock.

That’s not a fix. That is the cam that moves when your deadbolt rotates. All you did was manually change the lock to unlocked by rotating it. I would bet your problem came back. The issue is the spring on the other side.

I tried all the fixes and none helped. Got a lithium battery and no issues since.

Thank you for this! You sorted this mysterious problem out for me. Does this happen over time because that screw doesn’t stay in the direction you want it to be in? Mine seemed to get worse over time.

same! lock worked perfectly for 10-12 months. now starting to do the spins every few uses. glad the fix is easy but man that's a pretty bad design flaw if this is the case

Do you have a permanent solution? Mine does that every couple weeks. In other words,...this is a temporary fix unless I can do something about it. I don't think schlage made it so that you would have to use adhesive or something? Did they?

Mine never showed the low battery code, but I changed the battery and now it's working fine. Maybe you should try changing the battery if you haven't already.

I will never buy a Schlage product again! This lock stopped working in freezing weather and my daughter couldn’t get into the house! Absolute Junk and Schlage knows it’s a problem!

Mine was beeping 5 times but not taking the code. I tried your method and didn't work.. ugh. The 9V I used had 9.2V on my voltmeter. I tried another freshy that read 9.7V and bam it fixed it. So.... if anyone reading this.. replace your 9v w a freshy.
