nice fix, I picked an electric lock that failed due to bad installation, the mechanism was rubbing on the wire harness and eventually wore through, fixed it, works fine. have a great day

I've had varying degrees of luck "fixing these guys". These use to last so long, now this problem shows up usually within and 1.5 years, I have had a lot of them fail like this, or with that broken pin. I usually tell people that when this happens to either get schlage to warranty it, if it is within the warranty period, or get a new one. The prices on these are not too bad. And I won't guarantee the fix, cause I'll usually get a call back in about 6 months to a year with more problems I have almost stopped selling these unless people specifically request them. but is is cool to get a video showing the problem.

@@jmr there are plenty of keyless entry products on the market that I recommend. most are commercial products. It really depends on it's use case. I put on tons of basic Simplex/kabba keyless deadbolts. They hold up for decades and completely mechanical.. but most people now what don't like the looks or it's lack of bells and whistles. I don't have a residential grade keyless product I recommend as being particularly good... If you absolutely need the bells and whistles of multiple codes, internet or Bluetooth connectivity, easy to change codes, or apps.. non are good.. but buy a schlage product as they have the longest warranty of 3 years.

@@jamespetkwitz8737 Thanks, I'm looking to buy something basic but very reliable for the rear door in case the front lock fails. Zero frills are needed for that. As is usually the case the "bells and whistles" were only cool for a short time on the front door anyway. 😂

@@jmr if looks are no issue and you are handy.. I usually recommend the Simplex 7100, it requires an extra hole to be drilled in the door. It is completely mechanical, a bit more complicated to recode .. only holds one code at a time, and has a fixed backset so you have to order the correct one. but they last a long time. been putting those on for decades

Thanks for the video. Have fixed about a dozen of those over the years by just repositioning the rack that goes over the spinning spring. Put a used one on my house around 2010 that had a broken battery connector got tired of dealing with it a few years ago and sodered on a quality 9 volt battery connector. Seems the ones that went bad were all installed around the same time about 6 years ago. Have only seen one bad motor. Have one that is not working and going to see if its the problem you found.

Nice video! I'm thinking about a second keypad lock. I had a smart lock on the front door with Zigbee and remote control(Home Assistant for privacy). Almost none of the "smart features" got used after the first week. I replaced it with an electronic keypad lock without the bells and whistles. No regrets! I'm debating on whether to use a mechanical keypad lock or electronic lock on the back door now just to have a backup in case the front door dies and I don't have a key.

I found that both the actuator pin and the hole that it went thru had become gummed up with oily dirt. Cleaning the pin with solvent and then running a pipe cleaner soaked in solvent thru the hole cleaned it up nicely. After that everything worked fine. Both of my digital locks had the same problem.

My lock has a problem with keypad engaging. It’s brand new and when you hit the buttons sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. You will have to try a few times for all of the numbers to engage - If you don’t hit them just right they don’t work. What might be the problem?

Make sure the wire didn't get pinched/crimped when you installed it as it will cause this issue. If everything appears to be ok I would return it to the store you purchased it from! Good luck

Well the CAM on mine faces up instead of down & the schlage 'button' opens lock. I am not able to figure out why the schlage button unlocks it instead of locking could the CAM be the culprit? I've been messing with it for days now and feel I've tried everything aside frm totally pulling it apart. I've factory reset. Pulled it on and off trying the CAM upside down, facing it right or left nothing I've done has worked to remedy problem. I can't get it to work the correct way. geez nothing can just be easy! lol.
