Solving and graphing an absolute value inequality

👉 Learn how to solve multi-step absolute value inequalities. The absolute value of a number is the positive value of the number. For instance, the absolute value of 2 is 2 and the absolute value of -2 is also 2. To solve an absolute value inequality where there are more terms apart from the absolute value term in the same side of the inequality sign as the absolute value term, we first isolate the absolute value term. i.e. make the absolute value term the subject of the formula.
After isolating the absolute value term, we then create the two cases of absolute value problems: the positive case and the positive case. For the negative case, we flip the inequality sign. This results in a compound inequality which we then solve accordingly and graph our solution on a number line.

An absolute value graph can be very special, Mr. McLogan. It has similar properties as a quadratic equation has. The domain is all real numbers, and the range is y>or=0. It has an axis of symmetry, and a turning point called the vertex. You take the absolute value of a negative number first then you square it. Absolute value graphs and quadratic graphs look pretty similar.

Tell me you reply please. See I already know how to do this and I just needed a review. Now I was taught to subtract not divide, in other words I would have subtracted the 2 to both sides. And got |w+6| less than or equal to 8. After I would split it up and get answers of W less tha or qual to 2 and W less than or equal to -14... does the fact that there is a 2 outside of brackets make a difference? Is 2|w+6| less than or equal to 10 different from |w+6|2 less than or equal to 10 ?
