This fixed my problem with my 08 XC70. Mechanic charged $1000 to change the latch motor WHICH WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. the problem persisted. I watched this video and fixed the problem myself within an hour for zero dollars. Thank you!!!

My volvo v70 had this broblem month ago and its only five years old. This video would have been so helpfull but from the help of finnish volvo group I found some topic and people there said that the ground pin will melt. I was lucky becaus one time the trunk opened and I did just this and it has worked after. And now if it even happens again to me or anybody that I know will have this problem this video will help definietly! Great vido ones again👍

Very helpful to say the least. Very well explained and missed nothing. Need to push a bit harder that you would think to get through the plastic surrounding the lock. Don’t over tighten the nut under the light. Make sure you have a good quality connection for the cable. I had to fiddle the cable a bit to get it long enough to join. Much better advice than two main Volvo dealers gave me. This clip saved me about £500 all said and done. Thank you.

Hello. Yesterday I had same problem with my Volvo XC70 D5 2015. 1st I checked the fuse but fortunately I seen your video. Initially I was afraid to start this operation, but I did it. After this operation I realized that only one think remains, ... to say BIG THANK YOU!!! Everything working perfectly! Greetings from Romania.

I couldn't figure out why my tailgate wouldn't open. Turns out I had locked my glove box, which locks the tailgate. Nevertheless, I have clipped and crimped the earth as a precaution so this does not happen to me.

Might be a great fix, but did not work for me. Tailgate closed in my 2011 xc70. No indent in plastic or little hole in mechanism to unlatch. After all the problems with this car, I WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY A VOLVO PRODUCT!! Can you tell I am frustrated? My grounding spades in the plastic plug weren't burned at all but I did the "fix" anyway. No go. I ended up cutting a gaping hole in the plastic where the little release hole should be, but there is no hole in the metal. Geez, what a mess! 🙃

@@Unski3000 same... any luck? 2010 xc70
@Unski30002 жыл бұрын
@vincemc I managed to open it after using brute force. I had to break the plastic covering the lock in order to access the mechanism. I inserted a screw driver inside the lock from where I broke and used the keyfob to open the trunk and it unlatched. I found a plastic thingy lodged in between the tailgate and the rubbering that goes round the tailgate for dust protection. I guess that's what created the issue in the fast place, or not. The lock works fine now, I can open and close the tailgate. I hope this helps. There's really no other way to open the lock manually. I tried looking at the lock when I had removed it. Nothing. Bad bad design by Volvo

@hariscausevic4641 Жыл бұрын
Bro would this work in my situation. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it clicks starts to open and hooks on the lock ( that hook on the bottom, idk how name it ) and than I have to press handle and pull it with hands and it opens like it should normally. I guess on mine model tailgate is semi-automatic 😅
@apersson8503 жыл бұрын
If the grounding is the problem, do this instead to open the tailgate. Attach an electric wire to the rear side door's lock anchor in the car's body. Remove the plastic cover over the rear wiper's motor shaft. There's a small latch on the inside for this. Hold the other end of the cable to the exposed motor shaft. Now you can open the tailgate in the normal way, since the motor shaft is grounded.

You sir need an KZbin Oscar or Nobel, you are a life saver, thank you! Cheers from Finland! Btw, i didn't puncture the plastic cover with spike. Instead i drilled two 3mm holes next to each other and hone the plastic between holes. You can do it between the floor and tailgate gap. Worked like a charm. Just dont drill in too deep or you might brake something probably.

Hi Guys, I tried Yevgeney's method. Mine is the 2009 Drive E 2.4 5cyl. 312,000Km. On this model, the grey connector is behind the small easy access rear panel left side lower in the storage area. Not in the roof panel where Yevgeney's is. My ground is Grey/Orange. The teminals in the connector are not corroded. But I bent the ground pin over just a little to force better contact. Bend it too far and the connector won't close. The tailgate lock now functions. 1st attempt only worked with the key fob in the ignition socket. 2nd attempt worked with key fob removed. All good so far guys. Thank you. Superb.

I just discovered (by accident!) that the rear lock is not working on my 2006 V70. Luckily it stopped working while open, so I didn't have to open it. Still it's crazy that alarm gets activated without locking the rear door. And when you open it - alarm doesn't get triggered. Check the read door with alarm activated... Repair is in order... Thanks a lot!

I had this problem. The dealer at first misdiagnosed it. They changed the battery. When it happened again, they said it was the rear wiring harness in the tailgate. Cost $600 to repair at dealer. Symptoms was rear wiper not work, rear fog lights, tailgate, and instrument panel warnings, and battery discharging.
@birrextio65444 жыл бұрын
If they thought it was the battery they have the wrong job, that was very stupid. The high cost is probably due to the service manual that force them to replace both connectors with original or even the whole cablage. The Russian fix is much better and don't cost so much.

I’m having an issue with my driver side door lock and window controls. Occasionally, the key fob won’t work to lock my doors and won’t trigger the exterior lights to flash, and so I have to manually press down the lock on the driver’s side and that usually fixes it so the key fob will lock all the doors. When this problem occurs, I also cannot roll down any windows or lock the doors using the switches on the driver’s side door panel. Passenger side still works. Any advice? Thanks a lot!
