Solving Insta360 X4 Overheating Problem

Thanks to you, I'm not returning the Insta360 X4 that I precisely bought for recording my concerts, and after less than 30 mins 8K, it turns off because overheating. Your little trick allows me now to record more than an hour. Thanks again, and Insta360 should thank you too!.. 🙌🏻

@@AndreGranjo Obrigado!.. Can you please tell how you render 8K videos (software, format, bitrate, etc. do you use InstaStudio?) I ask because I use Premiere Pro and I used to record 360 videos of my concerts with my old X2 in 5.7k and now with the X4 in 8K I don't see so much differences in quality, it's pretty the same and actually it seems a bit noiser. Yours videos look sharper.

I built the cooler. It works great. The fan noise should not be underestimated. A separate microphone positioned at a distance is necessary.

The noise is there, for sure. Have you tried to use the Insta360 wind mufflers?

@@AndreGranjo No, Lo probé con el complemento Studio 360 y Davinci Resolve. Esto está bien para una entrevista y aplicaciones promedio. Lo usas para grabaciones de conciertos. Seguramente usas un micrófono aparte, ¿verdad? También me gustaría ampliar mis opciones para grabar música. El ruido no es un problema. Siempre tengo varios micrófonos.La iluminación es más problemática. Por el momento estoy experimentando con: Manuel/Flat/-0.5/6000Kelvin/320 ISO/25/24 fps.

Thank you! I was wanting to record concerts also, but in my tests the camera overheated. I've been trying to find an acceptable solution. Yours looks great! I wish you listed the parts and links to the fan and grill.

Hi, nice to know other people using the camera the same way I am😅! I have added a parts list to the video's description. Maybe that helps you tracking the parts. Used Amazon for those exact items.

The reason for overheating is the thickness of the device. This is specifically why Apple is so particular in reducing the thickness of the iPhone and iPad even though it's not really more desirable or useably practical. They're fast and don't overheat mostly because there is no thickness to retain heat. I have the X3 and keeping it cool has always been an issue. I have thought about removing the battery and creating it buying something to insert into the battery slot to cool the camera from within. This might be the only true solution.

In the experiments I did, in a warm room, it recorded for about 25min

try to make x4's batterie outside of body on wire extension. this will cool it very quick. even without fan

That is the solution I use for my GoPro MAX, but on the X4 the camera hasn't been working consistently powered only through USB-C. I will do more tests.

@@AndreGranjo I thought so, too... Mine would shut off when using the power selfie stick without the battery in the X4. So, I did some research and discovered that you need a more powerful power bank if there's no battery in the camera. From reddit: "Has anyone run their 360 x4 off a external power bank? I tried but the 360 x4 won't power on if the battery is taken out?" Jacky_Insta360 "Make sure the external power bank can output 5V/3A power voltage. The X4 can be power on without battery. However, ensure using a 5V/3A power adapter. X4 also supports 9V/2A power adapters with PD (Power Delivery) protocol." Translation: If running with no battery, make sure any external power bank can output 5V/3A power voltage. The X4 can be powered on without a battery. However, this requires a 5V/3A power bank.

Did you try the Thermo Cover they offer?

People are misunderstanding the use of the thermal cover. It is meant to make it more comfortable to hold the camera, not to help with overheating (explanations given to me by Insta360). In some instances it may actually make the camera overheat faster as it prevents air from flowing around the camera.
