At 24:58, by skipping over the "non-factorable" quadratic, you skip over a solution which isn't extraneous (because it is a real quadratic and one of the answers fits in the domain necessary for log2(x+3)+log4(5-x)=3. The domain is -3 x>-3 ..... 5-x>0 --> x

On that problem ending at 24:36 x=1 is a solution and x=-1+2radical(5) is also a solution. If you did the quadratic equation at the end you would have arrived at that. 1-2radical(5) however, is not a solution because it is not in the domain

3:52 why did you multiply the right side by 1/3? By the way, you really helped me a lot to catch up in classes, Thanks
@accensa5 ай бұрын
Late to this but division can be defined in terms of multiplication; it's essentially the inverse version of the operation (multiplying by the denominator). Log3(4x + 7)/3 is the same as 1/3[log3(4x +7)]. When you distribute 1/3 it becomes Log3(4x + 7)/3. The reason why he chose to multiply by 1/3 is so that you can make it an exponent for the log as he explained it.

@MrBoston25125 жыл бұрын
I know this is a late reply, but he is just simplifying the problem. Dividing by 3 is the same as multiplying by 1/3. An example of this would be 3/3. If you divide 3/3=1; if you multiply 3(1/3) [i.e. 3/1(1/3)] you will also get 1.
@themoon515 жыл бұрын
@@MrBoston2512 @4:59, could you explain why we raise both sides to the 3rd power?
@MrBoston25125 жыл бұрын
@@themoon51 Sure thing. So again, he is trying to simplify the problem (4x + 7)^(1/3) is gnarly. So, in order to get rid of the 1/3, he raises both sides to the third power (he has to do both sides since both of the equations are equal to each other). In doing so, you cancel the 1/3-->(1/3*3/1=1 bc of the exponent rules you multiply two exponents if one is raised to the other), and anything to the ^1 is just that value. You are left with the (x-2)^3=(4x+7), which is much easier to solve.
