Solving relationship conflict with communication skills

Most couple's therapy is based on communication skills and "conflict management".
But Sue Johnson, author of "Hold Me Tight" says that fixing communication is fixing the signs instead of the core issue.
And the core issue is the emotional bond.
With a strong emotional connection in place, arguments will naturally be fewer and milder and won't derail the relationship.
This video lands credibility to that theory: no conflict management skill can improve this couple's predicament once they realize they are running on empty on an emotional attachment level.
