Solving the Booster Course Pass Mystery

In today's episode I talk about the remaining characters and courses in the final 2 waves of the Booster Course Pass, and go over what seems like a likely fit. I tried to not copy any ideas from others, but admittedly with limited options, and hearing information spread, it can be a challenge to not overlap with other people. One of the unique options we explore is letting character predictions guide our final track predictions!

They have got to release a Philadelphia tour course. It is genius. They could have mushrooms getting replaced by drugs and the the 3rd lap would be a detour to the dirty part of the city with the shy guy and koopa gangs fighting each other. Also one of the laps should include the sports stadiums.

Actually, when Mario Kart 8 first received DLC on the Wii U, Dry Bowser was added right below the Miis as the final character in the corner of the roster, and they never changed it, so yeah, I doubt they would care to make the new characters fit in a way that makes sense

I have this theory called halfpipe theories. I’ve noticed this pattern where Nintendo’s been adding 2 tracks with halfpipes since wave 3. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if DK Mountain was added over Dino Dino since Nintendo’s seemingly been doing a lot for the MKWii fandom, and it has halfpipes and that gap cut :)

If you're thinking of funky kong keep in mind your predictions for jungle themed tracks as well as LA laps. Dixie and Funky are for some reason associated with LA laps in tour so it actually makes quite a bit of sense to put funky with LA laps.

Once the whole pass is done I really hope they re-organize the character select screen. For example, if we get Pauline it's gonna drive me crazy if she's not slotted over by the other princesses. Dry Bones should be put next to Koopa and Dry Bowser next to Bowser. Funky/Diddy over by DK, Bowser Jr. at the start of the Koopaling row, Toadette by Toad, and for the love of god that mii icon better be put back in the corner or I'm gonna lose it. This means that despite my character wishes (like Kamek), I need a 'non-Mario' character added in the pass so the bottom row stays as a sort of guest row. Kirby? Zelda? Captain Falcon? Something, anyway.

13:34 Vancouver was most likely not added earlier because of its fall/winter theming, making it unfitting for anything but waves 3 and 6. And wave 3 already had two separate tracks to fill that niche(Merry Mountain and Wii Maple Treeway). Not to mention it's a fan favorite among Tour cities, so I guess they gotta save the best for the last...

The batrhoom course has full on assets, so it's probably very legitimate. I'd also put aside speculation of the roster lining up with the pattern the base roster did, if they were doing that Birdie would absolutely not be next to the Mario bros and the princesses on the character select, she'd be a row lower. They're just adding whoever to these slots instead of following the past pattern, which is probably for the best to create less arbitrary decisions for the roster

DK Mountain and Dino Dino Jungle was always a topic on my mind and honestly both have reasons to be in the BCP and also why they shouldn’t. I would say it’s a hard 50/50 shot of either or coming to the game. Imo I’m still thinking DK Mountain is gonna get added instead but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Your predictions all look pretty good imo, although something tells me that Nintendo wouldn't use a character slot for a Mii costume of some sort, but that's really just my opinion. Also, I personally think that Athens Avenue is a much better name than Athens Acceleration, but other than those two things, I agree with these predictions. Solid predictions!

I don't think we would get another Mii character tile. If you scan amiibos all those Mii Costumes just get rolled into a sub screen when you select a Mii. If they were to add more Mii Costumes, they would just roll into that sub screen with the Amiibo costumes.

I really hope we get a new tour track that takes place at New Zealand. Specifically in the South Island in Queenstown. Queenstown is beautiful and it can be a 3 section track such as going down a hill passing the luges and skyline and driving across the beach and across the mountain road and small town. But that’s just my opinion. (Oh ye and an epic massive glider part when the snowy Mountain View is in the background would be perfection ✨) I feel like I’m asking for too much- 💀

One thing I haven’t seen anyone bring up is that despite very few of them being popular courses, they’ve been adding a lot of circuit tracks from games that didn’t already have a circuit (or raceway) brought back in 8, which makes it seem to me like they want 8dx to include a retro circuit from every other game in the series. At this point, only Wii is missing, so I’m expecting either Daisy Circuit or Wii Luigi Circuit to be somewhere in the last two waves. I’d probably throw one over Koopa Cape in your predictions, seems unlikely that we get KC and PPC in the same wave.

Most likely Wii Luigi Circuit, as pretty much every other circuit theme has been remixed in 8DX (SNES Mario Circuit, GBA Mario Circuit, N64 Royal Raceway, GCN Yoshi Circuit, DS Mario Circuit and 3DS Toad Circuit).

KC and PPC are similar yeah. Perhaps the DK track might come early? Swapping DDJ and DC as well. PPC to wave 6. Like the bottom row possibility at the end of the video.

Considering that the specific placements in the prefix leak of console courses have been changed for two consecutive waves, I think it’ll likely change for wave 5. On that note, wave 5, alongside the locked Koopa Cape and Sunset Wilds, will have two GCN tracks: Daisy Cruiser and Mushroom Bridge, with the SNES track moved to wave 6. This also quells your argument against Mushroom Bridge, which I think is more likely since City is way too similar to NYM. Dino Dino Jungle, like Peach Gardens, was both originally second in the Special Cup and originally reappeared second in the Lightning Cup, so even though Peach Gardens wasn’t originally datamined to be second in the Moon Cup, DDJ will likely be second in the Spiny Cup by the same pattern of remaining second in the final cup of the row. In fact, DDJ being planned there may even be why PG was moved there. I think the SNES track will be a Bowser Castle; Tour datamines indicate that one will come in May, and then there’s also Vanilla Lake being redundant because of Snow Land.

No reason to force it though. DKM has already returned in Wii. Just a matter if they want to have it here, or feel like it. It makes more sense for courses like DKS where it'll eventually be back but they have to do it in a game that features them.

I think that instead of the 3 new tracks we will probably only get one new for wave 6 but instead of a new one I think we will get a Mario kart 64 and a Mario kart 7 track as they haven’t got much representation each track respectively might be Wario Stadium and Bowser Castle MK7

I highly doubt that Mii costumes will be a part of the DLC. Even if they were there would be no reason for them to take a separate character slot from the regular Mii. In Will Mii costume B was a different outfit for the Mii's so it makes sense that they were separate. But in MK8 all of the Mii costumes are under one character, so why change it suddenly for a few additional costumes and give them their own separate spot on the character select screen?

Personally I think they wouldn't use all wii retros from mk7 which is why I think we will get wii dry dry ruins and banner leaks in my opinion can be changed quickly and it makes sense to me aswell because waves 1-3 have mk7 wii retros then wave 4-6 has wii tracks that have debuted in tour or the bcp

I agree Koopa Cape is most likely to be the chosen Wii track for Wave 5 since most Wii tracks in the Booster Course Pass so far were featured in Mario Kart 7, despite the featured tracks in MK7, new or retro, taking up most of Mario Kart Tour in testing and launch.

I wonder if alternates for existing characters would be considered, not like the costumes from Tour but rather "similar" characters like having Paratroopa as an alternate for Koopa Troopa. This would allow Nintendo to add additional characters while also not taking up the "reserved" five slots remaining.

There are lots of cool things they could do to reintroduce old characters, but I’m sure they’d be relying on original track releases for some like Hammer Bros and Kamek. I’d love some kind of NES Classics compilation track that came with ROB, partially because I’m a big ROB fan. I think Vanilla Lake does make some amount of sense if you think about it. Judging from all of the talk about Nintendo finishing the DLC by the end of 2023 implies to me a holiday/winter DLC 6 release, so having Vanilla Lake would make some amount of sense as a seasonal inclusion in the same vein as Merry Mountain (and kind of Snow Land in DLC 2).

I don't think city courses are considered in the same category as real world city courses, to be honest. I think Mushroom City is more of a "traffic" course like Turnpike, Shroom Ridge, and Moonview Highway

There's a possibility to what the mystery "bathroom" course in the pass might be that I see nobody talking about: A Super Mario Bros. Movie tie-in. The movie is clearly taking lots of inspiration from the old DiC show when it comes to the brothers' origins and how they end up in the Mushroom Kingdom. In the show, the two were originally from Brooklyn, but they found a portal to the Mushroom World in some random drain. What kind of drain, you ask? A bathtub's drain. And if the movie's already taking so much from the show in regards to their origin story, why not go all the way and include this tidbit? I fully believe the "bathroom" course will involve every racer shrunken down inside a bathtub at the start, before going down the warp drain and being spat out in the Mushroom World, with iconic locations from the movie to drive through. Heck, this gives precedence to Pauline being a character in the pass, as she seems to be the mayor of Brooklyn in the film. Is it a bit farfetched? Yeah. Am I gonna be bummed when it turns out it's just a generic bathroom? Probably. But I like to think big!

Given how Yoshi's Island was an original course and was sorta treated like the crossover courses, I feel like a crossover character is likely for the last new character given the last row is full of them and every expansion to MK8 adds one new franchise (Link for DLC 1, AC characters for DLC 2, Inklings for Deluxe basegame). If we assume it's only returning characters I think R.O.B. is basically the only choice, but if I can be a little out there I'm holding out hope that we might see Captain Falcon ready to pilot (a smaller version of) the Blue Falcon for the first time in 20 years given it feels odd we have two F-Zero courses but not him. Unlikely, but a man can dream.

The difference between MK and Smash is that Smash didn't reveal where they would land on the character roster. The shape of the roster changed based on who was added. It has been set for this game. Mii not in the bottom right would feel so awkward too.

I have a question I purchased the pass a while ago and ive been able to play it But today i can no longer play it, it says i have it purchased but i cant download it. It then says i have to have the online switch membership thingy to play it. Had that always been a thing?

The account that bought the dlc could be different to the account you're using. If thats the case, the account that bought the dlc might be set to a different primary console which means only that account can use it on secondary consoles. The other thing that comes to mind is you may have used the expansion pack to access the dlc and that subscription is maybe expired but it sounds like you bought it outright. Hopefully that makes sense, it could easily be something separate.

I’m surprised the Snes track was moved to wave 6 if it came to wave 5 then Koopa Troopa beach would of made it and I would be so shocked if Snes bowsers castle 3 doesn’t make it I’m gonna be so disappointed and shocked

I don't think KB2 was ever viable. Koopa Cape was still there to fit its theme the whole time.

The music leak is most likely not inaccurate, just tracks ordered swapped.

I think this is possible too. Part of the reason I think Mushroom Bridge might get in is because of cup positioning. Feels like it could totally be 2nd track of Wave 5.

The same thing for prefix leak. Hell, Maple Treeway is Wave 6 Course 2 in the datamines. More evidence in Wave 4 as Bangkok Rush is Wave 5 Course 5 and Singapore as Wave 4 Course 6, despite it being the last course of Wave 4. I'd say, prefix is still accurate when it comes to course origin. Just have its placement different so that people won't be hopeful about it (like that last Wii course couldn't be placed last but somewhere in Wave 6; very controversial since alot of people loved Wii Rainbow Road but it's possible that it won't be coming and both DDR and KC will be in)

Highly doubt there is neither DKM/DDJ. There is no datamine of an obvious BC candidate, which is why I feel like an original Bowser course could happen TBH. I'm with you. Colosseum is my favorite track of all time. It's not even close either.

@@HDRookie Yeah I think it's nearly impossible to have neither DKM/DDJ. For a Bowser course maybe a shadowdrop like DS Mario Circuit ? But yeah complicated, I think we have at least one Bowser course (and maybe 2, one in wave 5 with probably BC SNES, and one in wave 6, between RR Wii and the NGC track). Not even close either for me too !
