I just kind of wish they came forward and spoke about everything like this that came to mind. Who cares if it was scrapped, if it didn't work, or whatever, it's still really interesting to see their thought process and some alternative lore we could've had, no reason to hide any of it It could even make for an extremely interesting "the making of" video, focusing on the writing itself instead of on the animations, voice acting and similar stuff

Slim chances. Ideas like that have a tendency of being reused/expanded upon in the sequels and since they plan on making another Witcher game they may use these ideas there.

Who knows they may use all the scrapped content for the new game they making
@joaocarlospaesjr2324 Жыл бұрын
It's not exactly what they hide, otherwise the moders on PC would never find content cut from the games by digging through the game files. Most game studios don't reveal these things because the "beta" of the games they keep to themselves in files on company PCs.
@playwars3037 Жыл бұрын
The problem is, not only could those ideas probably be reused in another game, expansion, ect, hence their reluctance, but their NDA probably prevents them from speaking about it, and even if it doesn't, they might just be erring on the side of caution, just in case. After all, content they made for the game doesn't belong to them, and that means that unless the studio itself decides to talk about it, the devs probably can't.

It's amazing how ambitious CDPR were with the Witcher 3, despite being a much smaller studio back then. I mean it is still a massive game, however I can't help but dream of how much more there could've been :) Also I know a new Netflix trailer is out, I'll probably make a video about it next week

Yeah, this! A thousand times this! I think some people either forget or never knew because of how great and successful the Witcher 3 turned out to be that before Witcher 1, they had NEVER made a video game before ... EVER! They started in 1994, but only distributed video games made by other studios and translated already made games into Polish. In the mid 2000s they started work on a Baldur's Gate game, but that was scrapped due to the funding company having financial issues. Then they moved to The Witcher. Which lets be honest, it was a neat game and awesome concept but it was not exactly great in it's execution. Then they made Witcher 2 after having got their feet wet and did a fine job on that. Then, decided to take on one the most insanely giant open world dynamic role playing games where things change based on player choice ever conceived ... just mind boggling really.

I feel the same way, there was so much that would have been so awesome if it had been in the game. I really wish they would've kept developing the game and adding paid DLC's over the years to fill in what wasn't.

Now that i've just finished The Witcher 2 for the first time, i realise just how much we're missing in The Witcher 3 with Iorveth missing entirely, and Roche doing little more than a glorified cameo. I feel like so much more could've been done with the latter alone, let alone the both together. It's incredible to think that there is so much to The Witcher 3 and that it already takes almost 200h if not more to finish entirely, and yet so much is missing at the same time. This titbit of new dialogue is interesting, it really ties into the previous game, and well, when you have Charles Dance as a VA, it's a criminal offence to hear his voice so little in the game. Especially considering how Emhyr only appears in TW3 despite being an overarching character/antagonist of the whole Franchise and that the whole of TW2 is essentially a giant game of chess, and Emhyr's the one moving the pieces. Maybe it was meant to be part of a quest that would've delved a bit more on the possibility of Roche being in contact with Nilfgaard to negotiate and secure a future for a free Temeria as a vassal of the Empire. Because coming straight from TW2, Roche cooperating with Nilfgaardians sounds rather out-of-character. I wish we knew just how much though. Iorveth, some Roche content, any kind of follow-up regarding Aryan la Valette other than a brief appearance of his mother, Saskia and the events of Vergen, all the cut Nilfgaardian content, etc...

It may not be related but one thing I noticed. The Sword of Destiny trailer has a three interesting parts, 1st is Nilfgardian army walking through forest in what looks like a winter and 2nd is Geralt walking towards Emhyr while he is sitting on a throne. The 3rd is the Wild Hunt burning down a village. The very first Witcher 3 debut trailer has Geralt standing infront of burning village. Maybe this was all part of a storyline that was scrapped including this winter location and maybe the first time you would meet Wild Hunt was in White Orchard.

Thanks for talking about alternative Prologue. Very few people knew about it before you made this video! I should also give credit to user Flipper444 and his source in Poland who knows a ton about the cut content and have helped the BiA team a lot. Just a few points. I think they scrapped the alternative prologue because they didn't want to spend the time and effort making something that only the small subset of people who played Witcher 2 at the time and imported a save would ever see. I presume that the regular White Orchard would've had the cultist plague stuff at one point too before the whole plague questline was scrapped. Regarding the infected peasants in Velen, they actually were set to spawn at what was once a field hospital labor area next to the Devil's Pit. However this is now just a field of Nekkers. MerseyRockoff(credit to him for the restored Emhyr intro) decided to move them to Mulbrydale so that they would make a bit more sense in the current version of the game. Thanks for the great video!

@ Most of that content is rather minor stuff though, not remaking the entire map of an area sized content. And it would have had to be 3 different intro sequences not just 2 - Rescue Triss, Help Natalis, Save Saskia - so likely when they realized how much work the second was they scraped the plan to have your choice of ending in Witcher 2 affect the intro of Witcher 3. The harpies suggest this winter option would have been the "Save Saskia" intro as this is Iorveth unique (and the Iorveth path is the one with the harpies) and it leaves the North in the worst possible position : Henselts army is gone, Saskia is running an independent state with a strengthened Scoiatel, and the mages have been decimated. I think (?) the one ending the settled on is the Help Natalis one, as the sorceresses are on the run and Roche is your best bud. It would be interesting to see the alternate Novigrad under a Rescue Triss ending. But that would have been a ton of work.

@@agilemind6241 yes! those are the exact same problems CDPR is going to have unless they abandon totally a direct timeline sequel to W3 in W4. there are too many interior choices the players made inside the 3 main endings for Ciri (Empress, Witcher, Vanished/Dead). they've also gotta decide if they want to abandon totally The Witcher's Path, include it partially, or keep the players engaged by continuing to Walk the Path in W4. decisions decisions decisions!

Sometimes content is scrapped because it was a bad idea to begin with, but later devs will find another reason and rarely admit the truth. It would make sense that in the Iorveth path Temeria will fall faster and with less resistance, if you don't help Nathalis in Chapter 3 of Witcher 2. Then the meeting with Yenefer can happen sooner, but Gerald and Yen will have to wait until spring to start the main game, due to too much snow. There may have been a whole section of Gerald and Yen reconnecting before the start of Velen, and some Velen events happening sooner or not at all.

Demons are quite rare in the Witcher universe and can't recall them ever engaging actively without humans doing something so maybe this plague thing is a result of a contract gone wrong or something, maybe like O'Dimm? Anyway I was hoping to see Iorveth in this whole mess somehow or maybe even Isengrim but alas

Thank you so much! I loved this video. I think it's understandable that CDPR decided to keep the game easy to acess for completely new players. Still, I also think it's a little shame and do fondly remember preparing about 12 different versions of TW2 saves with detailed descriptions of my steps before TW3 was released. I was so mind-blown after TW2 how different the two paths in the game are designed that I was sure this would continue even further. I was a little bit disappointed when it then had so little impact. A disappointment I recovered from in no time when I realized what an absolute masterpiece TW3 was. But in your video I notice again how my mind also digresses "what could have been". A dream that remains - it's fun to fantasize further. Thank you so much xletalis!

Can we all agree that the best thing is that the love and excitement to dream big and push past ones ability isn't really a fault. Many of the problems become charming or loved in time. Its amazing how big the quality jump is and how much they were able to stuff in. I just made another post talking about how much wonderful content they have available if they just bring everything up to the quality of 3 and its an old game. Hopefully switching engine's will mean the whole thing is redone. 1 and 2 will get fleshed out and brought to the quality of 3 and 3 brings them together in something truly epic with choices really making a difference. Blood and wine could be fleshed out and maybe the part about mutagens could become a major story and stand alone and connected to the school of the car. Its amazing they put people who cared enough anywhere near enough money to get what we have. I want to see if there is anything decent in season 3 Netflix but I will wait for several months to make sure I don't support it. That's why what you do is important. Its easy to avoid something bad to send a signal. There are a lot of things that might be good or have something new that triggers the corporate mindset to go in anew direction. If we want more things like the Witcher we have to make it known there is interest and money. You can even see it with the Witcher that there is a worry of anything that might be to complex for the unwashed masses. The more we can do to show a market the better hopefully. Then hopefully we can find people who care to make it.

I presume the axe Emhyr calls for is not for the man’s execution but to chop down the tree. If the gardener’s to be executed he’s more likely to hang. But the tree seems to have some special significance-but this is Nilfgaard now. Silly Temerian customs will no longer grace a royal court.
@toncek9981 Жыл бұрын
Imho the "Axe" didn't really mean axe - Nilfgaardian (and elder speech) is based upon celtic languages (I think the Welsh especially) and "axe" is Germanic word that's not used in Welsh or Irish for that matter (according to translator at least)... I think that it was meant to stop Guardman talking to the gardener. Also the "This is Temeria now" could have been directed to both the gardener and the guardsman (he was the one calling gardener Temerian, no one else spoke about Temeria before). For the guardsman it meant "he is subject of the empire and you are gonna treat him as such" and for the gardener it was "now you are gonna do things as you are told to, not as you were used to"

Great Video. It amazes me how much (cut) content can still be found in the Witcher 3. It's really interesting how different the potential opening is to the existing one. I feel like the existing one could be Iorweths path in which he and and other elfs just left the continent to escape the coming war. Whilst in the other opening which would be Roches path which could take place during the time when Radovid attacked Kaedwen (how it's told to us by ambassador var Attre in the existing opening) someone who tried to stop the advance of the nilfgaardian army opened the devils pit and let the plague loose. Therefore the entire game could have played out differently and without the nilfgaardian influence. Or it could have let to an ending in which the nilfgaardians lost the war for sure.

I too am disappointed by the cut content for Witcher 2. That being said, I completely understand why CDPR kept the references of other Witcher stories to a minimum. If you rely too much on things from the first 2 games and books, it can put people off from buying and playing your game. Having never played Witcher 1 or read the books prior to playing 2 and 3 for the first time, any references to those events flew way over my head. I even had to look up a few Witcher 2 characters because I forgotten who they were. It wasn't a deal breaker, but I did have to shrug those moments off and hope they weren't important to the story. It was only after watching a playthrough of 1 (that gameplay is just not fun for me) and reading all the novels, I was able to truly appreciate everything the game offers. Having been on both sides of the coin, I can see how someone walking into Witcher 3 completely blind would have been completely turned off if the game continuously played back to prior events. Many new players may walked away and Witcher 3 only has about the same success as the first 2 games. Making it available and approachable to everyone is why it has become the huge success it is. I know diehards can be annoyed when things are streamlined to expand to a wider audience, but CDPR made the right call on this one.

I always felt like there was way too little of The Witcher 2 in The Witcher 3. I felt like all my emotional investment on The Witcher 2, its story, its characters, went painfully unrewarded. Especially them cutting out Iorveth was frustrating. All we got from TW2 in TW3 was a relatively brief side quest containing Letho; and even that, if I'm not mistaken, was added later in a DLC. I do understand that they did it to make the game more welcoming and appealing to newer players, but they did it at the cost of frustrating the older fans.

I'm glad they did, wticher 3 was my first in the saga cause of never having a PC and just consoles. And I gotta say, in my 30 years as a gamer, this title will forever be one of the best video games I've ever played. If they didn't made it to be open for newcomers like myself I might have never played this jewel.

The Witcher 2 connection isn't super obvious or clear, tbh. Obviously, TW3 is the sequel to TW2 so it's only natural to have references. Emhyr's dialogue could just be foreshadowing for his demise or he is being ironic, ya know?

I wonder if there are additional details between those corpse piles in the southern end of the Velen map and the Devils pit quest. Haven’t been there since before the next gen update. I doubt it though. Still one of my favourite locations because of how disturbing the environment is there. Lighting piles of corpses on fire (nearly twelve) and the smell.

Given how massive and awesome witcher 3 is, I can forgive them, but CDPR really dropped the ball in making the 3 games a real trilogy. Imagine if it had the same amount of choices having consequences in later games as the Mass effect trilogy. Like killing Henselt in 2 means you get an even worse king in 3 instead, like killing Wrex in mass effect 1 is bad in the long run - or having a certain dragon cameo like you can have a Letho one - which is bugged and I've never seen in both playthrough :(

Well no matter what the "great plagues" and the "witch hunts" are all canonic events in the future of the witcher world :), they are events that happen as said in books and it's nice the games really delve into it: "In particular, it is believed that Ithlina predicted the Nordling Wars (1239-1268), the Great Plagues (1268, 1272 and 1294), the bloody war of the Two Unicorns (1309-1318) and the Haak Invasion (1350). It was equally believed that she predicted the climate changes observed beginning at the end of the 13th century (The White Frost), which popular superstitions always associated with the end of the word and the prophetic arrival The Destroyer [sic]. This fragment of Ithlina's prophecy was the trigger of the infamous Witch Hunts (1272-1276) and caused the deaths of numerous women and unfortunate girls, who were mistaken for the incarnation of The Destroyer. Today, Ithlina is considered as a legendary figure by a number of researchers, and her "prophesies" as contemporary apocrypha cobbled together from bits and pieces, an ingenious literary fraud.. Effenberg and Talbot Encyclopaedia Maxima Mundi, Tome IX" :) quest about the Catriona would be have been interesting.

Always wondered what was going on with some of those villagers in Mulbery. Seemed like they were talking about something other than what was right in front of them. Like there was something off about them. Probably why I always found ways to get the hell out of there quickly as I could because weird, disjointed conversations in roleplaying games almost always are a sign of something really bad right around the corner, either a badly implemented quest that can screw a lot up or a major game breaking bug. Either way experience has taught me to run away from those. But it does make a lot of sense that it represents the two different paths you take in Witcher 2 what you find in White chard at the start. Would have made me redo the one side of Witcher 2 as my save files from siding with the elves got corrupted before Witcher 3.

After all this, we definitely need a documentary for making of the witcher 3 from CDPR.
