Solving The RIDICULOUSLY Difficult Jack Puzzle!!

Today I'm going to attempt to solve the Jack puzzle by Craighill.
This puzzle is comprised of six different notched brass bars that interlock in one specific way to create a unified "jack" shape.
It's exactingly milled by a skilled machinist in Wisconsin, and it weighs one pound. It's a desk object, a paperweight, and a true distraction. But be forewarned, if you take it apart, you might not be able to figure out how to put it back together...

I want to say Thank You Chris Ramsay. I'm having a hard time after surgery on my knee. I'm not feeling very happy lately and I'm very frustrated with myself but, watching you be frustrated with that puzzle and having to try over and over again, giving up and looking at the solution. AAUGH! Felt so good. It illustrates how I feel so perfectly. I have to ask for help and then it's still hard. It's so easy to stop but, you didn't and I won't stop either. My dad used to make these! There’s one still sitting on my parents’ coffee table and when people come over, they inevitably start tinkering with it until it falls apart in their hands. Then they have to try to reassemble, lol. Don’t worry CR, no one has ever figured it out. There’s a way easier way to do it though. Those instructions look terrible.

I have a puzzle that works the exact same way but is made out of wooden blocks. I had a big aha moment once I recognised I this puzzle. The wooden puzzle was quite easy though because it was quite light and square making them much easier to handle.

Only if the rod without holes would fly out. This rod bassically locks the whole puzzle. It is impossible (without breaking the rods) to take it apart without removing this particular rod.

@@joostinatortje, you could cool the puzzle to almost absolute zero temperature, the the pieces would shrink a little bit. Maybe that'd give it enough wiggle to take out a different rod first.
