It is truly disrespectful that the new regime in Somalia, and the new President Farmaajo(cheese) called this 'people dying by crossfire' when it was truly a genocide towards Isaaq people masked as a fight against rebellion. If that was the case, how come this did not happen to other Somali cities, on such scale, who were also rebelling? Siad barre was truly a dictator, one of the worst men the world has ever seen.

#NEVER_FORGET The city of Hargeisa was virtually destroyed during intense and pitiless bombardment. Many thousands of people were killed or driven into exile. Barre's soldiers, meanwhile, tortured and murdered as many as 50,000 others - most of them civilians - and buried their bodies in mass graves. Now, as those who still live in this region try to secure their future, some feel those past agonies should be re-examined and those responsible held to account.
@abdulahimoabdulahimo35518 жыл бұрын
But Somaliland has its dark side. Within living memory its citizens fell victim to the most savage of state-sponsored atrocities. General Siad Barre - the ruthless dictator who ruled Somalia from 1969 to 1991 - went to war with the clans who inhabited the area. Believing them to be supporting a rebellion against his regime, he took revenge by sending in his army with a mandate to "kill all but the crows".
@abdulahimoabdulahimo35518 жыл бұрын
+Abdulahimo Abdulahimo Somalis born after the civil war can find themselves feeling this trauma handed down from one generation to another, without being able to fully grasp its cause. This project is an attempt to record those facts and offer commentary on the present forms of justice available to the many thousands of genocide victims. Without an acknowledgement of suffering, there can be no healthy dialogue, no reconciliation and no true acceptance. To move forward once and for all, Somalis must truly address the horrors of the past and move together beyond the artificial boundaries of clan.

So why do we not just abolish the whole thing. It has and still has not done us any good.

To forgive yes, I totally agree with that. But never to forget. History shouldn't be forgotten. No nation on earth does that. You can look it up. Americans still talk and teach their children about the civil war and civil rights movement, they celebrate icons like Rosa Parks and martin luther king jr. Countries that learn form their past and move on are the countries that put their history into prospective, they forgive and let go of any grudges, but they never forget because those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. You can't erase History. Actually the only thing that will come out from all these demands to forget history is that you alienate Somalilanders who don't have the luxury to forget what happened to them. Yes You were able to forget but not everyone who went through that horror and lost family members can easily forget. respect their pain and don't think for a second that history can be erased. Trying to erase history will only divide us (Somalis) more

+Ahlam Ali, let me put it down for you girl. When I said forget I didn't mean erase a history; who could?!. You see transferring horrific images to young once will only create more hate. Probably you will disagree with me, because you are a typical Somali who mostly remembers the negativity and thats wrong.
